“And not many days after theyounger son gathered all to-gether, and took his journeyinto a far country, and therewasted his substance with riotous living.” Luke 15:13
Anyone familiar with the Bible will recognize the above verse aspart of the narrative of the Prodigal Son. It is easy to connect with thisstory for many are the families that have a prodigal. A prodigal issomeone who out of rebellion, willfulness or just plain selfishness, pursues life choices that are heartbreaking to their parents and family. In pursuit of their “freedom” they have wasted potential and createdchaos for themselves and others. Often the prodigal rejects the faithand values he has been raised with and is now either indifferent to oreven opposed to God. Quite often the prodigal was someone whoonce was an achiever with lofty goals, but threw it all away for…..(youname it). They leave both sorrow and guilt in their wake. Parents dealwith nagging thoughts of “What did we do wrong?” Sometimes parents know the answer to that question and shoulder the blame.Sometimes Mom and Dad did the best they knew and still grieve.
How does one deal with the fallout of a prodigal child? This is thetheme of just one of the workshops for the Faithful Men Conferenceat Calvary Baptist Church on Saturday, November 12. Contact the church for details at 517-639-4239 or email us [email protected].
Frank Snyder is Pastor of Calvary Baptist Church, located on US 12 between Coldwater and Quincy,
