2017 Farming Futures

The 2017 Farming Futures Committee warmly

welcomes you to browse our Prospectus for the

2017 Careers Fair and Dinner.

Background

Farming Futures is a student-run initiative that was founded in 2011 at the University of New

England. Our vision is to create networking opportunities for students with private corporations and

organisations, aiming to ensure future employment for those students in industries dedicated to the

agricultural sector.

During the 2016 Careers Fair we saw over 500 students walk through the fair and engage with booth

holders from various companies from around Australia. The Industry Dinner was a sell-out at 290

students and industry representatives.

A big thank you to our 2016 Platinum sponsor, University of New England School of Environmental and

Rural Science, and our 2016 Gold sponsors; NSW Department of Primary Industries, Australian Pork and

Australian Wool Innovation Limited for making our events possible.

Farming Futures 2017

Hello and thank you for your interest in Farming Futures! Do you offer graduate programs or hire

graduates? Maybe you are able to offer work experience opportunities to students? Or perhaps, like the

rest of us, you are just keen to get more young people involved in agriculture to ensure the success and

growth of the industry in the years to come. Either way, we are keen to again bring you our trifecta of

events, giving you the opportunity to meet and interact with the bright minds that are the future of

agriculture.

The continuation of our events relies on financial and in-kind support and attendance at our events from

you, as members of the agricultural industry. We always have a fantastic turnout from students so there

are guaranteed benefits in attending and making your company known.

Farming Futures strives to gain support from a range of businesses to

ensure that we give a comprehensive snapshot of what is available in

agriculture. However, to do this we need your help to make sure your

particular sector is represented.

We hope that what we offer in this prospectus is of interest to you and

we are more than happy to discuss anything further if you wish.

Thank you for your interest in Farming Futures and I hope to see you at

our events in July.

Chairperson 2017

Farming Futures Schools Program

The Schools Program is aimed at year 10 students who are interested in pursuing a career in the

agricultural sector. The Program showcases the agricultural related degrees on offer at UNE and some

Program itinerary in 2016 included a variety of short talks on topics ranging from sheep management, international trade between Australia and Indonesia, an introduction to the UNE Business School, beef value chains, agribusiness accountancy and horticulture management. Students are given time to explore the Careers Fair and take advantage of the free BBQ lunch provided at the fair. A guided tour of the UNE Smart Farm concluded the day.

The development of UNE’s SMART Region Incubator, supported by the Centre, is bringing together some of the region’s brightest entrepreneurs. The Centre is also looking to our students as a key part of an exciting future, sharing in the success and global experience of our 2017 IFAMA team who will be recently returned from competing in the international agribusiness forum’s Student Case Study Competition, held in Florida, USA. This event is also taking the opportunity to thank the generous sponsors who have supported our UNE IFAMA team to travel to the USA to compete in this international competition.
