The Catamount defense allowed 620 yards of total of- fense on the day but got the crucial stop it had to have with the game on the line, keeping the Bulldogs out of the end zone after they earned a first-and-goal at the Western Carolina 3-yard line with 20 seconds left. • Samford quarterback Devlin Hodges had a big day in the losing effort, throwing for 516 yards and four touch- downs. The 516 passing yards were a school record and the third-most in a game in SoCon history. His top target on the day was Chris Shelling, whose 245 receiving yards were the 10th-most in a game in SoCon history. • The Citadel, which was idle last week, earned its 500th program win Sept. 16, downing ETSU 31-25 in Johnson City, Tennessee. • Wofford coach Mike Ayers picked up his 200th win at the helm for the Terriers on Saturday. Ayers, in his 30th year at Wofford, is 200-136-1 at the school and 211-157-2 for his 33-year career overall. • Three league teams are nationally ranked this week, with Wofford leading the way at No. 7 in both the FCS Coaches Poll and the STATS FCS Top 25. The Citadel is No. 11 in the FCS Coaches Poll and No. 8 in the STATS poll after an idle week, while Samford slid to No. 23 in the coaches poll and 25th in the STATS rankings after dropping a road game at Western Carolina. • Five of the six SoCon games thus far this season have been decided by one possession. Since the start of the 2013 season, 59 of 130 (.454) league games have been decided by one possession. • Chattanooga and Furman both got in the win column with blowout victories Saturday. The Mocs snapped their three-game season-opening skid with a 63-7 win at VMI, while the Paladins stopped a three-game slide of their own with a 45-14 win at Colgate. Adams threw for 312 yards, counting a 59-yard touchdown among his 19 comple- tions, for his fourth career game of 300 passing yards or more. The redshirt sophomore from St. Petersburg, Florida, also ran for a career-high 152 yards and another score on 20 rushes. His 152 yards on the ground were the most in the league on the week and good for an average of 7.6 yards per at- tempt. JJ Jerman, Jr., K ETSU ETSU kicker JJ Jerman booted a pair of field goals and converted both of his point after touchdown attempts in Saturday’s 26-23 over- time win over Mercer. The junior from Seymour, Tennessee, kicked a 25-yard field goal in the second quarter to put the Bucs ahead 10-0 and converted from a career- long 49 yards in the fourth quarter to halt the Bears’ 20-point scoring run. The 49-yard field goal was the fourth-longest in program history and pushed Jerman into fourth in school history with 25 made field goals. His two PATs moved him into a tie for fifth in program his- tory with 49. Keion Crossen, Sr., DB Western Carolina Western Carolina defensive back Keion Crossen had eight tackles and two pass breakups in the Catamounts’ 38-34 win over No. 17 Samford on Saturday. • Western Carolina earned its fi rst win over a ranked FCS opponent since 2006 Saturday when it topped No. 17 Samford 38-34 in Cullowhee, North Carolina. The Catamount defense allowed 620 yards of total of-fense on the day but got the crucial stop it had to have with the game on the line, keeping the Bulldogs out of the end zone after they earned a fi rst-and-goal at the Western Carolina 3-yard line with 20 seconds left.

• Samford quarterback Devlin Hodges had a big day in the losing eff ort, throwing for 516 yards and four touch-downs. The 516 passing yards were a school record and the third-most in a game in SoCon history. Western Carolina quarterback Ty-rie Adams led the Catamounts to a 38-34 upset of No. 17 Samford on Saturday, accounting for 464 yards of total off ense. Adams threw for 312 yards, counting a 59-yard touchdown among his 19 comple-tions, for his fourth career game of 300 passing yards or more. The redshirt sophomore from St. Petersburg, Florida, also ran for a career-high 152 yards and another score on 20 rushes. His 152 yards on the ground were the most in the league on the week and good for an average of 7.6 yards per at-tempt.

JJ Jerman, Jr., KETSU

Current Southern Conference teams are 38-47 (.447) all-time in overtime games. League teams played six overtime games in 2016, matching the record set in 2006. The Citadel and Woff ord played two OT games each last season, including the Bulldogs’ 24-21 win over the Terriers on Oct. 22. Woff ord saw its season end in double overtime at eventual national runner-up Youngstown State in the quarterfi nals of the FCS Playoff s. Mercer and ETSU played in the lone overtime game thus far this season on Sept. 23, with the Bucs emerging with a 26-23 win.
