2017 IEEE-SA ETHERNET & IP @ AUTOMOTIVE TECHNOLOGY DAY2

Welcome to the 2017 IEEE-SA Ethernet & IP @ Automotive Technology Day conference in San Jose, California. Now in its 7th year and for the second time in USA, previous editions were in France, Japan, and Germany. The conference and its exhibition is the premier venue for OEMs, suppliers, semiconductor vendors and tool providers to discuss and learn about the evolution of Ethernet standards, technologies and applications in the automotive environment.

This year the conference host is the United States Council for Automotive Research (USCAR), which is a collaborative automotive technology council for FCA US, Ford Motor Company and General Motors. In addition, the Center for Automotive Research at Stanford (CARS) will be our special Academic Sponsor.

The exciting presentations for this year’s edition will help our community to understand how Automotive Ethernet will enable vehicle connectivity and self-driving technologies and their mass-market expansion. Presentations will provide insights into vehicle applications and will discuss about their networking and architecture issues. We will also analyze the status of standardization efforts of the PHY and MAC layers, and share lessons-learnt to guarantee the reliability and quality of Ethernet communication. Trends and solutions for coping with Cybersecurity aspects of automotive Ethernet will also be an important part of this conference.

I am pleased to welcome again Ian Riches, Director of Global Automotive Practice at Strategy Analytics. He will give the keynote speech about meeting the market and business challenges for connected and automated vehicles and will discuss vehicle architecture trends and needs of the Ethernet ecosystem.

A Special Panel Session with industry experts from the Internet of Things (IoT), Cybersecurity, Connectivity, Automotive and University Research, will address safety and security concerns of moving Ethernet into the autonomous driving and vehicle connectivity space. This session will allow a live debate with the audience and create opportunities to present and discuss new challenges on this subject.

Finally yet importantly, the conference will offer a unique networking opportunity for OEMs, suppliers, semiconductor vendors and tool providers and an exhibition hall with more than 30 booths to experience automotive Ethernet technology. I appreciate everyone taking time to participate and contribute to this important event, and I am confident that we will all have a great opportunity to share lessons-learnt, increase our knowledge and discover new aspects of the Automotive Ethernet & IP.

On behalf of USCAR and IEEE, thank you for attending and I look forward to meeting you at the event.

C&S group and Ixia partner to address the challenging tasks of safeguarding, validating and optimizing automotive Ethernet communications. Ethernet is changing the game in the automotive world by bringing together players from both the IT and automotive industries. The synergy between these two areas of expertise is a decisive factor for future success. Even though Ethernet is a well-known standard and provides a high re-use factor from the consumer and industry domains, it brings new challenges to the emerging Electrical/Electronic (E/E) switch architectures. Carmakers must verify that their in-vehicle systems and products comply with legacy systems and are conform to industry standards, several standards addressed in OPEN, IEEE, AVnu, IETF and AUTOSAR among others. To provide a secure driving experience to passengers, carmakers also need to assess the robustness of their in-vehicle Ethernet systems. With Ixia’s 20+ years of leadership in Ethernet validation and C&S’s +20 years of research and expertise in automotive communications, they offer together an industry test lab and solutions that automotive manufacturers and suppliers can trust to validate robustness and conformity to standards.
