Year-End ReportMay 2016 – June 2017
IIA Portland Chapter
1
President’s MessageIt’s hard to believe that another chapter year has come to an end! I have appreciated the opportunity to lead our Chapter over the last year. In our annual report, we acknowledge and reflect on our Chapter’s many achievements throughout this year.
The IIA’s Chapter Achievement Program is a tool that we use to evaluate our success in service to members, service to the profession and chapter administration. The Portland Chapter remained at the Platinum status for the seventh consecutive year! This status recognizes the strong involvement of our members and continued interest in our programs.
Chapter engagement – ranging from attendance at the Chapter’s monthly meetings to volunteering as speakers – remains critical to our programming success. I want to thank the officer team, the Board of Governors, and the Chapter volunteers for all of their hard work and dedication this year.
Expansion of chapter involvement, successful new programs, and continued success of our established programs. We also continue supporting our mission – the continued promotion, advocacy, and development of the practice of internal auditing.
I encourage each of you to review the pages of this report to see the faces of the Chapter’s leadership team, reflect on the training events held this year, review updates on key Chapter activities, and learn more about the activities of our Chapter.
I want to extend a thank you to all members, volunteers, speakers and board members who contributed to our successful chapter year. It was an honor to serve as the Chapter President and a great learning opportunity.
I encourage you to consider volunteering with our chapter in the future to develop leadership skills, grow your network and re-energize your passion for the profession. We always have room to grow our programs and would love to have your energy and ideas. Volunteering options include: academic/college outreach, young professional group, government audit, marketing, social media, newsletter writing, CPE programs, social events, philanthropy, administration, certifications, technology, events support and more! Please consider volunteering in the future.
I welcome incoming President Andy Willis and our 2017-2018 leadership team.
Here’s to a successful new program year!
Sincerely, Dana Lawrence2016 – 2017 President

Chapter Achievement Program
7YearsPlatinum Status in Chapter
Achievement Program
Through the Chapter Achievement Program (CAP), Chapters that achieve gold status, 10 years in a row, receive platinum status in their 11th year. The Portland Chapter has earned platinum status for it’s 7th consecutive year!1
The CAP program helps chapters:
• Focus on activities that support annual goals
and objectives.
• Keep track of all chapter activities during the
year.
• Measure success based on different
performance levels reached at year-end.
• Benchmark against other IIA chapters of the
same size.
• Ensure effective and timely communication
with IIA Headquarters, the District
Representative and Advisor.

Audit Director’s RoundtableHeld October 17, 2016 at Moss Adams
Fifteen audit directors and managers from the Portland area met for the annual Audit Director’s Roundtable to discuss topics of interest to the group, including: • Data analytics and tools, • Staffing challenges and recruiting, • Cybersecurity, • Enterprise Risk Management, • Audit software tools, • Audit reports, • Communication with company Audit Committee and Board of Directors.
• During the meeting, attendees provided their requests for internal audit training that the Portland Chapter might sponsor over the upcoming year.
• Attendees were also provided information around Portland Chapter’s involvement in Seattle University’s IAEP (Internal Auditing Education Partnership) effort.
• The participants were also emailed the “internship in a box” documentation developed from Seattle University’s IAEP program for internship management.
This two hour meeting is coordinated and supported by the IIA-Portland Chapter. If you would be interested in attending in the future, please contact Ken Peasley at [email protected].
28
Update on Seattle University’s Internal Audit program
• During the 2016/17 chapter year, Portland Chapter continued support of Seattle
University’s IAEP (Internal Auditing Education Partnership) program
through monetary support and quarterly attendance by a Portland Chapter
board member as a Seattle University IAEP advisory board and marketing
subcommittee member.
• Seattle University is now qualified at the highest “Center of Excellence” level of
the Institute of Internal Auditor’s IAEP program. Final certification is expected
from the Institute of Internal Auditors during 2017, which will make Seattle
University the eighth Center of Excellence university in the world, fifth in the
United States, and the only such university in the western United States.
• The benefit to area companies includes availability of students graduating into
the Pacific Northwest region who have completed robust and specialized
education in the area of internal auditing.
