AMERICAN TROMBONE QUARTET Foundedin2015,TheAmericanTromboneQuartetseekstochampionnewmusicandworksofAmericana,whetherthatisbysharingrecentlycomposedworkswithnewaudiences,commissioningnewworks,orbyadaptinginnovativemusicalworksfromvariousgenres,eachavenueleadsustowardsourgoal,whichistosharetheartandjoyofcollaborativechambermusicwithliveaudiences.Thefourfoundingmembers;NathanielLee,WilliamMann,ZsoltSzabo,andJemmieRobertson,havecometogetherfromdiversemusicalandpedagogicalbackgroundstoadvocateformusiceducationandaudienceengagement.Tothisendwehappilydevoteourselvestobothperformingandteachinginresidencies.

BRANDT ATTEMA BasstrombonistBrandtAttemahasbeenamemberoftheNetherlandsRadioPhilharmonicOrchestrasince1999.HeisalsoamemberoftheNederlandsBlazersEnsembleandtheNewTromboneCollective.Asasubstitutehehasplayedwith,amongstothers,theAsko|SchoenbergensembleandmanygreatorchestrassuchastheRotterdamPhilharmonicOrchestra.InSeptember1999BrandtAttemawontheinternationalcompetitionforbasstromboneinGuebwiller-France.Sincethenhehasbeenasoloistandclinicianatnumerousfestivalsthroughouttheworld.BrandtAttemahasbeenprofessorofbasstromboneattheRoyalConservatoryintheHaguesinceSeptember2007.

DamonSmith,TheMountainGoats,AsphaltOrchestra,FlexibleOrchestra,onrecordlabelsincludingNewWorld,Innova,NewAmsterdam,Cantaloupe,andherownlabel,DilapidatedBarns.ShehastouredwithnewmusicensemblesSEM,TiltBrass,themobileensembleAsphaltOrchestra(foundingmember),withexperimentaltheatrecompanyBananabagandBodice(Beowulf),andvariousworldmusicpopstarssuchasArijitSingh(Bollywood).Herrecentsoloprojectblendssite-specificfieldrecordingwithliveperformance:“SiloSongs”wasrecordedinamassiveconcretegrainsilowithnewmultiphonicspiecesinthenaturallyreverberant,cylindricalspace.SheteachestromboneandcompositionatSarahLawrenceCollegeandalsoBrooklynConservatory,throughwhichshegoestoafterschoolprogramsinvariousneighborhoodsinBrooklynfortromboneclasses(NewYorkCitydoesnotfundpublicschoolmusiceducation,sothisprogramisavitalwayofbringingmusictokidswhowouldn'thaveitotherwise).Shelovesimprovisedvegancooking(10yearsandcounting!),teaching,listeningtoanimals,andlongmeanderingwalks.BOISE STATE UNIVERSITY TROMBONE CHOIR NestledinthefoothillsoftheSawtoothMountains,BoiseStateUniversityistheresearchcenterandeducationalhubofBoise,avibrantandgrowingmetropolitangemoftheNorthwest.TheDepartmentofMusicatBoiseStatehasarichtraditionofmusicalexcellenceandhasestablisheditselfasoneofthefinestprogramsintheNorthwest.Insupportofthisexcellentheritage,theIdahoStateBoardofEducationhasdesignatedBoiseStateaprimaryemphasisareaintheperformingarts.JoiningtogetherwithBoiseStatealumandbasstrombonist,PatrickHerb,theBoiseStateTromboneChoirmembersareproudtorepresenttheiruniversityatthe2017InternationalTromboneFestival.IAN BOUSFIELD IanBousfieldhasbeenatthetopoftheprofessionforoveronequarterofacentury,excellinginperhapsmorefacetsofthemusicbusinessthananyothertrombonisttodate.Hiscareerhasincludedplayingintwooftheacknowledgedtop-fourorchestrasintheworld,oneofwhichisrecognizedasperhapsthegreatestoperaorchestra,performingasasoloisttothehighestpossiblelevelwithorchestras,brassbandsandonperiodinstruments,recordingasasoloistontoplabels,playingthemetrackstoHollywoodblockbustersandteachingattheRoyalAcademyinLondon.BorninYorkin1964,IanisaproductofthefamousbrassbandtraditioninthenorthofEngland.HisearliestteachingcamefromhisfatherandfromDudleyBright,whoinastrangetwist,waslatertoreplaceIanintheLondonSymphonyOrchestra.ThemainspellthatIanenjoyedinthebrassbandmovementwaswiththeYorkshireImperialBandbetweentheagesof14and18,duringwhichtimehewasfortunatetowinthetheNationalChampionships(1978),theBritishOpen(1981)andtheYorkshireChampionshipsontwooccasions(1980,1981)withtheband.In1979,attheageof15,IanwontheShellLondonSymphonyOrchestrascholarship,atwhichpointhiscareerbegantomoveundeniablyinthedirectionoforchestras.HejoinedtheEuropeanYouthOrchestraaged16underClaudioAbbadoandmadeabriefstopattheGuildhallSchoolofMusicandDramainLondonbeforebecomingPrincipalTromboneintheHalleOrchestrain1983.DuringhistimeinManchesterheperformedtheUKpremiereofEineKleinePosaunenmusikbyGuntherSchuller,withthecomposerconducting.AfterfiveyearswiththeHalle,Ianreplacedoneofhislife-longmentors,DenisWick,asPrincipalTromboneoftheLondonSymphonyOrchestrain1988,whereheenjoyeda12yearcareer,wasfeaturedasasoloistwiththeorchestraonseveraloccasionsandrecordedthesoundtracksto
