Show & Deliver This is the recommended method as it involves the highest rate of posive response like

the Take Order methods but it eliminates the return trip. You bring along the product as you sell it door-to-

door. When a sale agreement is reached, the Scout goes out to the car or wagon, gets the product and

delivers it on the spot while the customer pays. If the desired product is not on hand, the Scout uses the

Take Order method and returns with the ordered product at a later me.

Show & Sell This method involves seJng up a table or booth at a high foot-traffic locaon (like a popular

grocery store, hardware store, or bank branch) where you can greet the public and offer your sale. Research

shows about 1 in 10 contacts will result in a sale.

1) Contact property/store owners for permission prior to sale.

2) Divide your Scouts into shi=s throughout the day. Have at least one parent per shi= (be careful not

to burn out your volunteers).

3) Do not block the store entrance

4) Leave the locaon beFer than when you arrived

5) Set up a display of the products to draw aFenon and for customers to see what they are buying.

Have Scouts in front of your display.

Take Order This method involves uniformed Scouts going door-to-door to take orders for popcorn. Research

shows that about 3 in every 5 doors knocked on will result in a sale. Moreover, only about 20% of houses are

contacted about buying popcorn. There is plenty of untapped market for the sale. This method is also

preferred for neighbors close to home, mom and dad’s co-workers and close friends and relaves to whom it

will be easy to deliver the product at the end of the sale. Do not fill Take Orders from Show and Sell and

Show and Deliver inventory un'l a6er the sale.

Sell On Line Increase your profit through internet sales!

Sales Tip

Publicity:

Ask your unit’s Markeng Chair to arrange publicity for the sale. Don’t have a chair? Take a few

Scouts, in uniform, to your local newspaper office along with a news release and ask for a photo in the

paper. For radio, a uniformed Scout and a leader visit the staon with samples to give to the staon

manager and announcer along with a news release. Look for community calendars that can describe

when you will be out selling. Contact businesses with signs outside of their business that can

promote the sale.

Scouts selling popcorn can choose a prize from the highest level they attain. Every Scout who

sells at least one item earns the popcorn patch. Note: This year there is only one prize program

for both Boy and Cub Scouts.

Rivalry Competition

All Out Blitz!

All Scouts are encouraged to parcipate in the

“All Out Blitz!”. Any youth who sells $300 or

more during the Blitz period of 9/26-10/8 will

win big! Every youth who submits a qualifying

copy of their order form will receive an Air

Storm Firetek Lunarang! Each Scout will also

be entered into a drawing for a Smart TV

grand prize. There will be one grand prize

given in each District!

To Qualify: A youth must sell more than $300

in popcorn as indicated on his sales form. A

copy of that form (not the actual form) must

be submiFed to either the District Kernel or

the Scout Office by 5pm on 10/9. Submissions

can be made by physical copy or email to

[email protected]. The Scout’s

name, unit, and phone number must be legible

on the form.

It’s the Browns vs. the Steelers in our 2017 Rivalry Compeon! Returning

this year to the product lineup our 16oz ns of Chocolate Covered Pretzels

Credit cards welcome: How to take plas'c for popcorn (by Bryan Wendell)

Cash or check only? Not anymore.

Thanks to some handy new tech tools, it’s possible to accept credit cards at your unit’s next popcorn sale,

carwash, or other money-earning project.

That eliminates a big reason customers give when choosing not to buy from packs, troops, teams, or crews

at events like Show and Sells: “Sorry, I don’t have any cash.”

Enter the card readers. These free, pocketable devices plug into the headphone jack on your iPhone, iPad,

or Android Phone. Just like that, you’re set up to accept credit cards.

They’re secure, they look professional, and they give you quick access to your funds. I even hear that some

councils are giving them out at popcorn kickoff events.

Here’s a look at the three biggest card readers out there, each with its own special features:

PayPalHerePayPal’s triangle-shaped reader charges slightly less per

transacon than Square and lets you accept checks.

Other notes:

• You can accept PayPal, Visa, MasterCard, Discover,

American Express, and checks.

• Compable with iPhone or Android phone (not iPad,

yet).

• It will deposit funds directly into your unit’s PayPal

account.

• PayPal charges a 2.7 percent fee for credit card

purchases and no fee for checks. (No other fees or

monthly charges.)

• Sends an e-receipt directly to your customers.

• Includes a free card reader

SquareThe Square Card Reader, the first to hit the market, has a

more elegant user interface but charges a liFle more per

transacon. It won’t let you accept checks but has more

bells and whistles.

Other notes:

• You can accept Visa, MasterCard, Discover, and

American Express.

• Compable with iPhone, Android phone, and iPad.

• Will deposit funds to the account of your choice the

next business day.

• Square charges a 2.75 percent fee for credit card

purchases. (No other fees or monthly charges.)

• Sends an e-receipt directly to your customers.

• Offers in-depth analycs.

• Lets your customers add a “p” or donaon to the

pack, troop, team, or crew.

• Includes a free card reader

IntuitGoPaymentLike Square and PayPal Here, the GoPayment device,

which I le= off my inial list (thanks to Jay and Ron for

seJng me straight), has no setup fees, cancellaon fees,

or monthly fees.

Other notes:

• You can accept Visa, MasterCard, Discover, and

American Express.

• Compable with iPhone, Android phone, Android

tablet, and iPad.

• Will deposit funds to the account of your choice the

next business day.

• Intuit charges a 2.75 percent fee for credit card

purchases. (No other fees or monthly charges.)

• Sends an e-receipt directly to your customers.

• Includes a free card reader

Helpful Loading Tips for Popcorn Pickup

The below guide assumes that the vehicle is empty and seats have been removed where possible. Remember that your passengers take away from valuable space.

25 cases or less will fit into most standard four-door sedans

Most truck beds will hold between 25 – 50 cases

Up to 40 cases will fit into most SUV’s (Explorer, Blazer)

Up to 60 cases will fit into most Mini Vans with no rear seats

Up to 75 cases will fit into a Suburban with no seats

For orders larger than 75 cases, enclosed trailers are best

A topper or tarp is strongly suggested for truck beds

Be sure you bring enough people to load your popcorn.

Please be sure to count your order as you load it. Once you sign for your order and leave the

warehouse, it will be assumed that your order is complete and accurate.
