Nos es grato presentarles el informe de Huella de

Carbono de Unión Fenosa Gas (UFG) correspondiente

al ejercicio 2017. Por séptimo año consecutivo, les

ofrecemos un inventario preciso, detallado y fiable

de las emisiones de gases de efecto invernadero (GEI)

derivadas del conjunto de actividades desarrolladas

por las empresas participadas por nuestra compañía.

El debate sobre el modelo energético del futuro

versa hoy sobre cuestiones ya conocidas como la

gestión de la demanda, la dependencia, la eficiencia y

la seguridad y diversificación de suministro.

We are pleased to present the Carbon Footprint

report for Unión Fenosa Gas (UFG) for the financial

year of 2017. For the seventh consecutive year,

we are providing you with a precise, detailed and

reliable inventory of greenhouse gas emissions

(GHG) deriving from the series of activities carried

out by the firms in which our company has a stake.

The debate about the energy model of the future

is looking today into issues which are already known

such as the management of the demand, dependency,

efficiency, safety and diversification of supply.

Pero, además, a todas las anteriores, se ha sumado

en los últimos años, ya de forma permanente y decidida,

la preocupación por el estado del medioambiente. La

antigua inquietud por la contaminación y el agotamiento

de los recursos se combina hoy con la de las emisiones de

efecto invernadero (GEI) y el calentamiento global. La

comunidad científica internacional es unánime y señala

que, en ausencia de una acción conjunta, universal y

urgente, el cambio climático tendrá impactos severos e

irreversibles a nivel global. Por este motivo, los esfuerzos

internacionales a favor del clima tienen hoy como uno de

sus focos prioritarios de actuación las medidas de control

e incentivo a su progresiva y equilibrada reducción.

España, con la firma del Acuerdo de París, ratificado

en diciembre de 2016, se comprometió a reducir un

26% sus emisiones en los sectores difusos (transporte,

residencial, agricultura y residuos) respecto de los

niveles de 2005 en el horizonte 2030. Así, nuestro país ha

trabajado durante todo el 2017 en la elaboración de una

futura Ley de Cambio Climático y Transición Energética,

que será un instrumento fundamental para que nuestro

país pueda alcanzar los objetivos de descarbonización de

su economía en el horizonte del año 2050.

In addition to the above, in recent years, we have

added, in a permanent and decisive manner, the concern

for the state of the environment. The previous concern

for the contamination and depletion of resources has

been combined today with greenhouse gas emissions

(GHG) and global warming. The international

scientific community is unanimous, and it indicates

that, if joint, universal and urgent action is not taken,

climate change will have severe, irreversible impacts

worldwide. This is why the international efforts to

promote climate have as one of their priority action

focuses today the control and incentivisation towards

its progressive, balanced reduction.

Spain, with the signing of the Paris agreement,

ratified in December 2016, has undertaken to cut

its emissions by 26% in various sectors (transport,

residential, agriculture and waste) compared with

the 2005 levels on the horizon of 2030. Hence, our

country has worked throughout 2017 to draw up a

future Climate Change and Energy Transition law

which will serve as a vital tool for Spain to be able to

attain the decarbonisation targets for its economy

on the horizon of 2050.

de la eficiencia energética y el desarrollo sostenible.

Por todo ello, promueve y participa activamente en

sostenibilidad y lucha contra el cambio climático. A

nivel individual, UFG trabaja de forma decidida con

su esfuerzo continuo en la mejora del desempeño

Spanish gas sector, UFG is still committed to

La compañía reformuló su herramienta de cálculo

de emisiones en 2017 para adaptarla a los relevantes

cambios acontecidos en la estructura societaria de

su grupo empresarial. Y para verificar su fiabilidad y

los resultados obtenidos, UFG ha vuelto a contar

con la colaboración de la Asociación Española de

Normalización y Certificación (AENOR).

Durante el pasado ejercicio, se produjo un

aumento del 4% en las emisiones directas y del 11% en

las indirectas con respecto al año precedente. En las

directas, el incremento fue atribuible principalmente

al aumento en un 11% de la energía gestionada por

las actividades generadoras de emisiones directas

en el grupo UFG, mientras que las indirectas se

acentuaron por el incremento en el volumen total de

gas comercializado.

Nos complace invitarle ahora a consultar en

las siguientes páginas el detalle de las principales

magnitudes en materia de emisiones, así como una breve

descripción de los acontecimientos más relevantes

que han influido sobre las mismas y de las actividades

desarrolladas por el grupo UFG en materia de lucha

contra el cambio climático y limitación de sus efectos.

The company reformulated its emissions’

calculation tool in 2017 to adapt it to the relevant

changes that have occurred in the corporate

structure of its business group. And to verify

its reliability and the results obtained, UFG

has once again worked alongside the Spanish

Standardisation and Certification Association

(AENOR).

During the last year, there has been a 4%

increase in direct emissions and 11% in indirect ones

compared to the previous year. As regard direct

emissions, the increase could mainly be put down to

the 11% rise in energy managed by direct emissions

generating activities in the UFG group, whilst the

indirect ones occurred owing to the increase in the

total volume of gas marketed.

We are pleased to invite you now to consult

on the following pages the details of the main

emissions’ figures, as well as providing a short

description of the most relevant events which have

influenced them, and the activities carried out by

the UFG group in the fight against climate change

and the limitation of its effects.

Perfil de Unión Fenosa GasUnion Fenosa Gas Profile

Unión Fenosa Gas (en adelante, UFG) está participada al

50% por la compañía española Gas Natural SDG, S.A. y la

italiana Eni S.p.A. Se constituyó en febrero de 1998 como

filial gasista de la compañía eléctrica Unión Fenosa.

El negocio del grupo UFG mantiene como fortalezas

fundamentales las siguientes:

1. Compañía gasista especializada siendo la base del ne-

gocio los mercados regulados y liberalizados de gas,

con una contribución creciente de la actividad inter-

nacional.

2. Disposición de aprovisionamiento en origen que per-

mite gestionar de manera competitiva los recursos

naturales disponibles.

3. Sólido posicionamiento internacional, con amplias

perspectivas de desarrollo.

4. Contar con un equipo humano comprometido y con

gran experiencia en el negocio.

La compañía opera tanto en España como en los mer-

cados internacionales del gas natural licuado (GNL).

Unión Fenosa Gas (henceforth, UFG) is 50% owned

by the Spanish Company Gas Natural SDG, S.A. and

the Italian company Eni S.p.A. It was incorporated

in February 1998 as a gas branch of the electric com-

pany Unión Fenosa.

The UFG group business maintains the following

essential strengths:

1. Specialised gas company, being the base for the bu-

siness the regulated, liberalised gas markets, with a

growing contribution by international activity.

2. Procurement at source, which allows the com-

petitive management of the natural resources

available.

3. Sound international positioning with broad

prospects for development.

4. Its team is committed, and it has great experien-

ce in the business.

The company operates both in Spain and on the in-

ternational markets of liquefied natural gas (LNG).




























En relación a las compras de gas, su portafolio se apoya

en dos contratos de largo plazo (el primero en Egipto

firmado en el año 2000 y el segundo en el Sultanato de

Omán rubricado en el año 2002) que se complemen-

tan con compras en el mercado de corto plazo. Ambas

tipologías satisfacen los compromisos de venta de gas

en el mercado nacional, así como las oportunidades

que confieren los mercados internacionales.

En el apartado de aprovisionamientos a corto plazo,

el grupo UFG ha consolidado su participación en el

mercado Ibérico del gas MIBGAS, operando desde

finales de 2016 y creando valor para la compañía.

Asimismo, durante 2017 el grupo UFG ha

complementado su aprovisionamiento a través del

As far as gas purchases are concerned, its portfo-

lio is based on two long-term contracts (the first in

Egypt signed in 2000 and the second in the Sultana-

te of Oman signed in 2002) which are complemen-

ted by purchases on the short-term market. Both

types meet the gas sales’ commitments on the na-

tional market as well as the opportunities afforded

by the international markets.

In the field of short-term procurement, the UFG

group has consolidated its share on the Iberian gas

market MIBGAS, operating since late 2016 and

creating value for the company. Furthermore, during

2017 the UFG group complemented its procurement

Omán, Angola, Trinidad y Tobago, Holanda y Perú, y

ventas en España, China, India, Japón, Corea, Jordania,

EAU, Taiwán y Kuwait.

gas in Algeria, Qatar, Nigeria, Norway, Oman, Angola,

Trinidad and Tobago, The Netherlands and Peru, with

sales in Spain, China, India, Japan, Korea, Jordan, UAE,

Taiwan and Kuwait.

Las actividades de las empresas participadas por UFG

continuaron su evolución en 2017 y se produjeron

algunos cambios que condicionaron de forma relevante

las emisiones propias de la sociedad afectada y, por tanto,

tuvieron un impacto en las emisiones de GEI consolidadas:

Exploración y Producción:

• Unión Fenosa Gas Exploración y Producción. S.A.

Unipersonal ha participado en los Permisos de In-

vestigación Cameros-2 y Ebro-A, situados en La Rioja,

como operador del denominado proyecto Viura.

En enero de 2015 se inició una prueba de pro-

ducción de larga duración del Yacimiento Viura, utili-

zándose el pozo Viura-1 y la planta de tratamiento y

los gasoductos construidos a tal fin. Dicha prueba se

desarrolló con normalidad hasta su terminación for-

mal el 26 de julio de 2017, si bien la producción de

gas prosiguió sin discontinuidad hasta su suspensión

temporal, a partir del 9 de octubre de 2017, con moti-

continued to progress in 2017 and some changes

were made which placed significant constraints on

the specific emissions of the company concerned,

thus impacting consolidated GHG emissions:

Exploration and Production:

• Unión Fenosa Gas Exploración y Producción,

S.A. took part in the Investigation Permits Ca-

meros-2 and Ebro-A, situated in La Rioja, as the

operator of the so-called Viura project.

In January 2015 a long-term production test

started at the Viura Field, using the Viura-1 well

and the treatment plant and the gas pipelines

built for this purpose. Said test was carried out

normally until its formal finish on 26 July 2017,

although gas production continued without

interruption until its temporary suspension as

from 9 October 2017 because of the drilling of

nes Alcance 1 y 3 en E&P en las operaciones de explo-

ración y producción debido a esta nueva perforación.

Licuefacción:

• La actividad de licuefacción de gas es el mayor con-

tribuyente a las emisiones directas del grupo UFG

(con casi el 77% en 2017). Las plantas de licuefacción

mantuvieron un régimen de funcionamiento similar

al del año anterior, con un aumento global de emisio-

nes directas cifrado en un 9%.

Transporte Marítimo:

• Uno de los buques gestionados por UFG estuvo

prácticamente subfletado todo el año 2017 (343

días), mientras el otro fue operado a corto plazo,

con varias operaciones de subfletamento en 2017.

equipment required to undertake said side-track

and, finally, in the last quarter of 2017, it was

commenced.

Hence, 2017 saw the generation of Scope 1

and 3 emissions in E&P for the exploration and

production operations owing to this new drilling.

Liquefaction:

• The gas liquefaction activity is the biggest

contributor to the direct emissions of the UFG

group (with slightly more than 77% in 2017). The

liquefaction plants maintained an operating regime

similar to that of the previous year with a general

increase in direct emissions amounting to 9%.

Maritime Transport:

• One of the LNG tankers run by UFG was sub-

chartered for the majority of the financial year

2017 (343 days) whilst the other was operated

in the short-term with various sub-chartering




























Debido a que está situación es similar a la del año

pasado, el consumo de combustibles (a nivel global

y sin diferenciar por combustibles) atribuibles a UFG

ha aumentado en un 17% y por tanto las emisiones

siones Alcance 3 han aumentado en un 24% debido a

los cambios realizados en los aprovisionamientos de

los combustibles y por tanto en sus cadenas.

Nevertheless, Scope 3 emissions increased by 24%

owing to the changes made in fuel procurement

and hence in their life cycle chains.




























Regasificación:

• En 2016 UFG dejo de participar en el negocio de la

regasificación con su retirada del accionariado de

Saggas (julio) y Reganosa (abril), por lo este negocio

no está incluido en el cálculo de 2017. Los valores

históricos de los años 2015 y 2016 se mantienen en

este informe para mantener consistencia con el his-

tórico de emisiones generado.

Comercialización (España e Internacional) y Oficinas:

• La actividad de comercialización de gas se incremen-

tó en un 12% en 2017. Dado que su contribución está

fuertemente correlacionada con las emisiones indirec-

tas Alcance 3 de UFG, esta variación influye decisiva-

mente en el aumento de las emisiones totales Alcance

3 y en el conjunto de las emisiones del grupo UFG.

Con respecto a la herramienta de cálculo de la Huella de

Carbono de UFG, ésta se modificó el pasado ejercicio

para facilitar el inventario, control y contabilización de

emisiones:

• Se han incluido como nuevos aprovisionamientos

de HFO para barcos las siguientes ubicaciones:

Regasification:

• In 2016 UFG ceased to take part in the regasification

business, withdrawing from the shareholder

structure of Saggas (July) and Reganosa (April) and

so this business is not included in the calculation

for 2017. The historic figures for 2015 and 2016 are

maintained in this report to keep the consistency

with the history of emissions generated.

Commercialisation (Spain and International) and

Offices:

• Gas commercialisation activity increased by 12%

in 2017. In view of the fact that its contribution

is greatly correlated with the Scope 3 indirect

emissions of UFG, this variation has a major impact

on the increase in total Scope 3 emissions and on

emissions as a whole of the UFG group.

As regards the UFG carbon footprint calculation

tool, this was changed last year to facilitate the

inventory, control and recording of emissions:

• The following locations have been included

as new HFO procurement for boats: Houston,




























Houston, Rotterdam, Fujaira y Singapur. Por lo tan-

implementado la actualización de los factores secun-

darios que fueron definidos en dicho informe.

the secondary factors used in the UFG Carbon

Footprint calculation tool which was included

in the attendant report (Review and updating of

secondary factors which were defined in said

El perímetro de sociedades participadas por UFG sobre

las que se ha calculado sus emisiones de GEI se ha

reducido en este ejercicio, ya que no se ha considerado

en éste la empresa Gas Directo (los valores históricos

correspondientes a 2015, sí incluyen este negocio) ni la

regasificación (los valores históricos correspondientes

a 2015 y 2016, sí incluyen este negocio).

El desmantelamiento de las instalaciones de Nuel-

gas se ha completado en 2017, por lo que las emisiones

registradas son debidas, precisamente, a este hecho.

La presentación de datos por negocios se ha reali-

zado según los sistemas que se indican en la tabla an-

terior, pero agrupando los sistemas Comercialización

de GN, Trading de GNL y Oficinas/Viajes en el Nego-

cio denominado ‘Comercialización y Oficinas’.

The dismantling of the Nuelgas installations

was completed in 2017 and to the emissions re-

corded are due precisely to this fact.

The data submitted by business was carried

out in accordance with the systems shown in the

table above, but grouping together the NG mar-

keting, LNG Trading and Offices/Travel in busi-

ness systems called ‘Marketing and Offices’.

El presente documento recoge las emisiones consolidadas

de GEI del grupo UFG en el año 2017 y un análisis evolutivo

de las emisiones del grupo en los años 2015, 2016 y 2017.

Las fuentes principales de emisiones de GEI que for-

man parte de los alcances clasificados de acuerdo con el

GHG Protocol Corporate Standard son:

Alcance 1. Emisiones directas de GEI, entendiéndose por

éstas, las que proceden de fuentes que son controladas

por la propia compañía.

• Producción de gas natural en UFG E&P Proyecto Viura.

• Transporte marítimo de GNL en los barcos Cádiz

Knutsen y Galicia Spirit.

• Licuefacción de gas natural en SEGAS y Qalhat.

• Transporte en vehículos en propiedad y alquiler (Espa-

ña y Egipto).

Alcance 2. Emisiones indirectas de GEI debidas a la gene-

ración de energía que es adquirida por la compañía.

• Consumida en las plantas de producción de gas (UFG

E&P Viura).

• Consumidas en oficinas (España, Egipto) .

Covered period:

The present document collates the consolidated GHG

emissions of the UFG group in 2017 and an evolutive

analysis of the group’s emissions in 2015, 2016 and 2017.

The main sources of GHG emissions which form

part of the scopes classified in accordance with the

GHG Protocol Corporate Standard are:

Scope 1. Direct emissions of GHG, assuming this to

mean those deriving from sources which are con-

trolled by the company itself.

• Production of natural gas at UFG E&P Viura Project.

• Maritime transport of LNG on the boats Cádiz

Knutsen and Galicia Spirit.

• Liquefaction of natural gas at SEGAS and Qalhat.

• Transport in owned vehicles (SEGAS) and hire/

renting vehicles (Spain and Egypt).

Scope 2. Indirect emissions of GHG owing to the ge-

neration of energy which is acquired by the company.

• Consumed at the gas production plants (UFG

E&P Viura).

• Consumed at offices (Spain, Egypt).




























Alcance 3. Otras emisiones indirectas de GEI, en las cuales

se incluyen aquéllas que, no siendo generadas en fuentes

controladas por UFG, son consecuencia de las actividades

de ésta (etapas del ciclo de vida de los combustibles, pro-

ductos químicos y residuos).

• Uso (combustión) del GN y GNL procesado por cada

negocio.

• Extracción, tratamiento, transporte y distribución de

GN y GNL comercializados.

• Extracción, producción y transporte de combustibles

consumidos en la operación de las instalaciones.

• Fabricación y transporte de productos químicos con-

sumidos en la operación.

• Transporte y tratamiento de residuos generados en la

operación.

• Viajes realizados por el personal en avión, tren y vehí-

culos de los empleados.

Scope 3. Other indirect emissions of GHG which

includes those which were not generated at sources

controlled by UFG and which derive from the acti-

vities of the latter (life cycle stages of fuels, chemi-

cals and waste).

• Usage (combustion) of the NG and LNG proces-

sed by each business.

• Extraction, treatment, transport and distribu-

tion of the NG and LNG commercialised

• Extraction, production and transport of the

fuels consumed in the installations’ operation

• Manufacture and transport of chemicals consu-

med in the operation.

l En 2017 el 99% de las emisiones de GEI del grupo UFG corresponden al Alcance 3, ya que incluyen el uso final (combustión) del gas operado.

l El Alcance 1 supone el 1% de las emisiones, siendo las contribuciones más importantes el autoconsumo de gas en las etapas de licuefacción y el consumo de combustible en el transporte marítimo.

l El Alcance 2 supone únicamente un 0,004%, ya que los negocios de UFG no requieren un elevado consumo de electricidad, salvo en el caso de la actividad de regasificación de gas natural, instalaciones en las que UFG ya no tiene participación en el año 2017.

l In 2017 99% of the GHG emissions of the UFG group pertained to Scope 3 as they include the end use (combustion) of the gas operated.

l Scope 1 entails slightly less than 1% of emissions and the most important contributions are the own consumption of gas at the liquefaction stages and the consumption of fuel in maritime transport.

l En 2017 aumentaron un 4% las emisiones directas (Alcance 1), con una correlación directa con el incremento en un 11% de la energía gestionada por las actividades generadoras de emisiones directas en el grupo UFG.

l Las emisiones directas de la actividad de licuefacción representan casi el 77% del total de emisiones. El transporte marítimo también tiene una contribución significativa (21%). En 2017, estos dos negocios presentan un incremento de las emisiones directas, con especial relevancia de la licuefacción, el cuál aportó el mayor incremento de estas emisiones. El resto de actividades experimenta, de manera general, un descenso en las emisiones GEI directas.

l Por ámbitos geográficos, el 98% de las emisiones Alcance 1 se realizaron a nivel Internacional.

l In 2017 direct emissions increased by 4% (Scope 1), there being a direct correlation with the 11% increase in energy managed by the direct emissions generating activities in the UFG group.

l The direct emissions of the liquefaction activity represent almost 77% of total emissions. Maritime transport also makes a significant contribution (21%). In 2017 these two businesses saw an increase in direct emissions, of particular note with regard to liquefaction which contributed the biggest increase in these emissions. The other activities generally saw a fall in their direct GHG emissions.

l Las emisiones indirectas por generación de electricidad comprada en el grupo UFG disminuyeron un 71% en 2017, siendo la causa principal que UFG ya no tiene participación en el negocio de regasificación, en el cual se produce un elevado consumo eléctrico.

l Las emisiones indirectas Alcance 2 en el año 2017 son muy poco relevantes en el grupo UFG, siendo las únicas actividades generadoras de emisiones indirectas la actividad de exploración y producción (sobre el 70%) y oficinas (sobre el 30%).

l Indirect emissions owing to the generation of electricity bought at the UFG group fell by 71% in 2017, with the main cause being that UFG no longer has a stake in the regasification business in which there is high electricity consumption.

l Estas emisiones Alcance 3 son, históricamente, el principal contribuidor a la cifra global de emisiones de UFG. En 2017 el porcentaje de contribución fue de casi el 99% del total de emisiones de GEI del grupo UFG.

l La razón principal es que estas emisiones incluyen el uso final (combustión) del gas comercializado, el cual representa la mayor contribución al total de las emisiones Alcance 3.

l En 2017 se produjo un incremento del 11% de emisiones indirectas de Alcance 3, debido al crecimiento del 12% del gas comercializado y al incremento del volumen de GNL en el conjunto del mix de aprovisionamiento del gas de UFG.

Exclusiones e incertidumbreExclusions and uncertainty

Se consideran exclusiones importantes de información

aquellas que puedan derivar en una discrepancia que

supere el umbral de materialidad establecido (discrepancia

material). Una discrepancia material es un error (por

ejemplo, un descuido, una omisión o un cálculo incorrecto)

que resulta en una cuantificación sustancialmente

distinta al valor verdadero y, por tanto, tergiversaría el

inventario de GEI y podría influir en las decisiones o

acciones emprendidas como resultado del mismo. El

umbral de materialidad de la discrepancia que hace que

su importancia relativa no sea aceptable, se establece en

un 5% del inventario de GEI de alguno de los Alcances (1,

2 ó 3) del negocio y/o área geográfica (el más restrictivo)

siempre y cuando no exista una única instalación en ese

ámbito. En el caso de que en un área geográfica, solo exista

una instalación por negocio, el umbral de materialidad se

evaluará en el nivel superior, Alcance y Negocio.

Debido a un error material (error tipográfico en el %

de destino de las regasificadoras) en una de las instala-

emisiones 2015 dentro de la actividad ‘Regasificación

y Distribución’.

• UFG dejó de ser partícipe de las sociedades propieta-

rias de Saggas y Reganosa en julio y abril de 2016, res-

pectivamente, por lo que las emisiones del ejercicio

2016 no corresponden a las emisiones totales del año

2016, sino al periodo en que UFG era accionista de

ambas sociedades. En la huella de 2017 las emisiones

de GEI de esta actividad son nulas. Se mantienen las

emisiones 2015 y 2016 dentro de la actividad ‘Regasi-

ficación y Distribución’.

• Las instalaciones de Nuelgas continúan sin producción

y en proceso de desmantelamiento en 2017, por lo que

As regards restrictions on the scope of the emissions

reported:

• The company Gas Directo was disposed of in

June 2015 meaning that the GHG emissions of

this activity are zero in 2016 and 2017. The 2015

emissions are maintained within the ‘Regasifica-

tion and Distribution’ activity.

• UFG ceased to be affiliated with the owner com-

panies of Saggas and Reganosa in July and April

2016, respectively, and so the emissions for 2016

do not match the total emissions for 2016, but ra-

ther the period during which UFG was a sharehol-

der of both companies. In the footprint for 2017

the GHG emissions of this activity are zero. The

2015 and 2016 emissions are maintained within

the ‘Regasification and Distribution’ activity.

• The Nuelgas facilities were still without any produc-

tion and were undergoing dismantling in 2017 and so

de emisión y GWPs). Los factores de emisión aplicados

están basados en los análisis de combustibles de las ins-

talaciones, en los factores facilitados por el Ministerio

de Agricultura y Pesca, Alimentación y Medio Ambiente

(MAPAMA), en base al Inventario Nacional de Emisio-

nes de España y en las Directrices del IPCC de 2006 para

los inventarios nacionales de gases de efecto invernadero.

The uncertainty associated with the GHG emissions’

inventory of the CF can be classified as:

• The scientific uncertainty of the specific GHG emis-

sion processes (Uncertainty associated with the

emission factors and GWPs). The emission factors

applied are based on the analyses of fuels at the ins-

tallations, on the factors provided by the Ministry

of Agriculture, Food and the Environment (MAPA-

MA), in line with the Spanish National Emissions’

Inventory and the IPCC Guidelines for 2006 with

regard to the national greenhouse gas inventories.




























En el caso de las emisiones debidas al consumo

de electricidad en España, se aplican los factores de

emisión del mix de cada empresa comercializadora, pu-

blicados por el Ministerio de Agricultura y Pesca, Ali-

mentación y Medio Ambiente. Para el resto de países

se utilizan referencias internacionales para calcular de

forma específica el factor de emisión del mix nacional.

Los potenciales de calentamiento global son los re-

cogidos en el Cuarto Informe de Evaluación del IPCC.

• Incertidumbre relacionada con la estimación de las

emisiones: control metrológico que asegure un rango

de incertidumbre de los instrumentos de medida, pro-

ceso de evaluación de la calidad de los datos secun-

darios, incertidumbres asociadas a los niveles de plan-

teamiento de los datos primarios de las instalaciones

incluidas en el EU-ETS (European Union Emissions

Trading System). Para el resto de emisiones Alcance

1 e indirectas se establece una importancia relativa

máxima del 5% (umbral de materialidad establecido).

En todo momento, la evaluación cualitativa de la incerti-

dumbre no debe entenderse con fines de cuantificación,

sino como un medio para priorizar los esfuerzos destina-

dos a reducir la incertidumbre.

As regards emissions owing to the consumption

of electricity in Spain, the emission factors of the

mix of each marketing firm are applied, published

by the Ministry of Agriculture, Food and the

Environment. For the other countries international

references are used to specifically calculate the

emission factor of the national mix.

The global warming potentials are those set

out in the Fourth IPCC Assessment Report.

• Uncertainty related with the emissions’ estima-

te: metrological control which ensures an un-

certainty range for measurement instruments, a

process to evaluate the quality of secondary data,

uncertainties associated with the primary data

approach levels of the installations included in

the EU-ETS (European Union Emissions Trading

System). For the rest of Scope 1 indirect emis-

sions a maximum relative importance has been

set of 5% (materiality threshold set).

At any time, the qualitative evaluation of uncertainty

must not be assumed for quantification purposes,

but rather as a way of prioritising the efforts aimed

at reducing uncertainty.

emissions owing to a specific activity/process.

The methodology adopted for their calculation

Una vez definido el sistema y sus límites, se procede

a inventariar las emisiones de cada etapa del ciclo de

vida, aplicando una metodología basada en el cálculo

a partir de datos de actividad y factores de emisión.

Posteriormente las emisiones son clasificadas según su

alcance en emisiones directas (Alcance 1) y emisiones

indirectas (Alcance 2 y Alcance 3):

Once the system and its limits have been defi-

ned, the emissions of each stage of the life cycle are

inventoried, applying an approach based on calcula-

tion on line with activity data and emissions factors.

Subsequently, emissions are classified according to

their scope into direct emissions (Scope 1) and indi-

rect emissions (Scope 2 and Scope 3):

• Alcance 1. Las emisiones del Alcance 1 pueden ser

debidas al consumo de combustible (gas natural

u otro combustible) en fuentes móviles o fijas o a

emisiones fugitivas de gas natural producidas por

venteos o fugas o por combustión en antorchas.

En el caso de emisiones debidas a consumos de

combustibles, la metodología de cálculo se concreta

de la siguiente manera:

• Scope 1. Scope 1 emissions may be put down to

fuel consumption (natural gas or some other fuel)

at mobile or fixed sources or to fugitive emissions

of natural gas produced by flashing or leaks or

owing to flaring.

In the event of emissions owing to fuel

consumption, the calculation methodology can

be set out as follows:

Los factores de emisión aplicados se corresponden con

los recogidos en las guías de elaboración de inventarios de

emisiones de gases de efecto invernadero (IPCC Guidelines

for National Greenhouse Gas Inventories) y los publicados por

el Ministerio de Agricultura y Pesca, Alimentación y Medio

Ambiente (MAPAMA) para el sistema nacional de inventa-

rio de emisiones y el cálculo de la huella de carbono.

The emission factors applied match those set

out in the IPCC Guidelines for National Greenhouse

Gas Inventories and those published by the

Ministry of Agriculture and Fisheries, Food and

the Environment (MAPAMA) for the national

emissions’ inventory system and the calculation

of the carbon footprint.

considerando los MWh de electricidad consumida como

DA y los factores de emisión publicados anualmente por

la Comisión Nacional de los Mercados y la Competencia

(CNMC) para cara comercializador de energía.

• Scope 2. Scope 2 emissions are calculated by applying

an algorithm similar to direct emissions, assuming

the MWh of electricity consumed to be DA and the

emission factors published annually by the National

Commission for Markets and Competition (CNMC)

for each energy commercialised.

Eie: Emisiones del GEI i (en kgGEI), donde i = CO2, CH4, N2O y e = etapa del ciclo de vida correspondiente (transporte o tratamiento del residuo).

GWPi: Global Warming Potential del GEI i (adimensional).

DA1º: Dato de actividad primario o directo: la cantidad de residuo generado por la instalación (en tresiduo).

DA2ºke: Dato de actividad secundario: consumo del combustible k por cada unidad de residuo tratado en la etapa e (en GJ/tresiduo).

FEki: Factor de emisión del GEI i para el combustible k (en kgGEI/GJ).

• Alcance 3. Las emisiones alcance 3 son calculadas

a partir de datos de actividad directos, como

pueden ser la cantidad de residuos generados o la

cantidad de gas gestionado por cada instalación

de UFG, aplicando a éste, factores secundarios

que permiten cuantificar las emisiones producidas

en cada etapa del ciclo de vida asociada al dato de

actividad directo.

direct activity data.

emissions owing to the life cycle of the waste

generated by an installation, are calculated

y datos publicados por fuentes reconocidas, como

pueden ser la Comisión Nacional de los Mercados y

la Competencia (CNMC), la Corporación de Reservas

Estratégicas de Productos Petrolíferos (CORES),

International Association of Oil&Gas Producers (OGP),

Autorizaciones Ambientales de instalaciones de

fabricación y de instalaciones De tratamiento de

residuos, Documentos sectoriales de buenas prácticas

(IPPC Best available techniques Reference document),

European Life Cycle Database (ELCD), etc.

The secondary factors are obtained from stu-

dies and data published by recognised sources

such as the National Commission for Markets and

Competition (CNMC), the Spanish Corporation

of Strategic Reserves of Oil-based Products (CO-

RES), International Association of Oil&Gas Producers

(OGP), Environmental Permits for manufacturing

installations and waste treatment installations,

Sectorial good practices’ document (IPPC Best

available techniques Reference document), European

Life Cycle Database (ELCD), etc.




























El criterio establecido para asignar porcentajes de

consolidación es el porcentaje de participación de UFG

en los distintos negocios/instalaciones. Para reportar el

inventario de emisiones GEI, como el grupo UFG tiene

participación en negocios y actividades que se integran

verticalmente a lo largo de la cadena de valor del gas na-

tural, es necesario consolidar las emisiones mediante la

realización de una serie de balances que eviten la doble

contabilidad de emisiones entre los diferentes Alcances

de los negocios individualizados.

Para poder realizar un análisis histórico de las emisio-

nes de GEI que permita mostrar un tendencia y valorar la

mejora o empeoramiento de las emisiones o el desempe-

ño con respecto a posibles objetivos que se establezcan,

debe fijarse una base de desempeño de partida, la cual

se denomina año base. Dadas las características de la or-

ganización en lo relativo a la estabilidad de los negocios

(adquisición, ventas, etc.), el año base seleccionado para

la Huella de Carbono ha sido un año base rodante. Es decir,

cada año los resultados son comparados con los resulta-

dos del año anterior. Adicionalmente, para el año base la

información disponible sobre datos primarios es confiable

y suficientemente completa.

The criterion set for assigning consolidation per-

centages is the percentage interest of UFG in the

various businesses/installations. To report the GHG

emissions’ inventory, as the UFG group has an inte-

rest in businesses and activities which are vertically

integrated during the course of the natural gas va-

lue chain, it is necessary to consolidate emissions by

drawing up a series of balance sheets which avoid

the dual recording of emissions amongst the diffe-

rent scopes of the individualised businesses.

In order to be able to carry out a historic analy-

sis of GHG emissions which allows a tendency to be

shown and to assess the improvement or exacerbation

of emissions or performance with regard to any possi-

ble objectives which are set, an initial performance ba-

sis must be established which is called the base year. In

view of the characteristics of the organisation in terms

of business stability (acquisition, sales etc.), the base

year selected for the carbon footprint was a rolling base

year. In other words, each year the results are compa-

red with the results of the previous year. In addition, in

the base year the information available about primary

data is reliable and sufficiently complete.
