members. I hope you all had a great summer.The next business meeting is Friday, September 7th at the Cameron Center. There will be no social on Friday, September 21st.Our lodge’s 50th anniversary celebration will take place of our social on Saturday night, September 22nd at the Palm Garden Hotel in Thousand Oaks (see the flyer on page 4 for all of the details). I hope many Oak Leaf Lodge members and guests will attend this event.Midsummer at Vasa Park on June 24th was a terrific event. Several members from Oak Leaf and other district lodges were there (see photos on page 3).We all enjoyed the food, drinks, dancing around the Midsummer pole, singing and stage programs, and folk dancing by the Swedish Folk Dance Club of Los Angeles.

The Midsummer court was Queen Carolina Paul (North Star Lodge), Svea Rachel DeLaurenti (Evening Star Lodge) and Columbia Bailey Reynolds (Kern River Lodge).Also, I want to thank the officers for having good initiations for our new members Kimberly Thomson in June and Jake Brady (lodge member Cecilia Brady’s son) in May.I am sad to report the passings of lodge member Einar Just Hallen (96 years old) and our Past Chairman Karin Coote this summer (see Karin’s photo and more information on page 2).If you haven’t already done so, annual membership dues of $30 per person for 2018 need to paid to Oak Leaf Lodge.You can give your check to our Treasurer Karin Eckdahl or mail it to her address (1006 Calle Las Trancas, Thousand Oaks, CA 91360).In Truth and Unity,Ken Kenyon Jr.Chairman

Zlatan in LA !!!

Zlatan Ibrahimovich, the Swedish-born soccer star, was recruited this spring to play for LA Galaxy. Earlier, as many of you know, he was captain of the Swedish national team and had a successful career with the following top-rated teams: Ajax in the Netherlands, Juventus and Inter Milan in Italy, Paris Saint-Germain in France and Manchester United in UK.

September 29 has been designated Swedish Heritage Night at Stubhub Center in honor of Zlatan. That night LA Galaxy is scheduled to play against Vancouver. It’s going to be an exciting game since the two teams are evenly matched. After the game, Zlatan will visit with the Swedish contingent. Also, perhaps he will run up the stairs and celebrate with us when he scores. Rolf Danryd, vice chairman of Lodge 445 in Torrance, has reserved section 103 for Vasa members. Ticket prices start at $25 and go up to $31 for front seats.

I spoke with Brendan Collins at the Galaxy front office. He told me that Swedish organizations, other than Vasa, have reserved sections 139 and 141. So far Galaxy has sold 300 tickets in these two sections but Brendan believed the number will increase significantly as we get closer to September 29. I urge you, however, to buy your tickets soon if you wish to be seated in the reserved sections. More information is available at the following website:
