Together we seek to create inclusive, resilient and healthy communities.
A dynamic provider of integrated services that empower people and build communities.
We inspire each other to…
Collaborate
Innovate
Celebrate diversity
Be kind
This past year marked another year of significant change, not only within KCHC, but also in our communities and across the province as a whole. The provincial government’s plans to transform the healthcare system have only just begun, and KCHC’s commitment to addressing the social determinants of health remains steadfast and clear.
As we reflect upon 2018/19, there is much to be proud of. At the Board level, we were pleased to welcome four new Directors, bringing in new skills and experiences that have already served the organization well. We also said farewell to our Secretary, Peggy Rice. Peggy served on the board for three years and her presence will be missed.
While these examples highlight some of our newer initiatives, all of our health and community programs continue to provide needed services, resources, and referrals that help our clients attain their goals. You’ll read more about our services in the pages that follow. Not only are the highlights contained within this report inspiring, they also serve as a marker of the tremendous commitment and compassion demonstrated by our staff and volunteers. We would like to express our gratitude to our staff as none of what you see in this report could be accomplished without them!

Lives Touched by KCHC
• OHRDP ensures that harm reduction supplies are accessible and available to enable harm reduction service providers to engage with individuals who use drugs. OHRDP’s work is behind the scenes: sourcing, negotiating, procuring, and coordinating the distribution of harm reduction supplies to the 37 core Needle Syringe Programs throughout the province.
• In order to ensure that Ontario’s 405 access points are appropriately stocked, our supplies travelled the equivalent of six times around the world.
• 30,305 different people visited the OHRDP website
Ontario Harm Reduction Distribution Program
This year, we embraced trauma-informed and resilience-building practices and spread the word about the impact of ACEs in shaping physical and mental health and wellbeing. As the number of ACEs a child experiences (such as abuse, neglect and household dysfunction) increases, so does the risk of negative health outcomes. We are committed to promoting the incredible value of safe, stable and nurturing relationships and environments for children and youth who have ACEs.
KCHC’s Focus on Adverse Childhood Experiences (ACEs)
Warming CentreNACHC provided the space for the Warming Centre this winter, which was run by volunteers from the community with the help of the Morningstar Mission. A warm, safe space was made available for folks to come in from the cold with an average of 17 clients visiting per night.
This year, over 1,000 patients received dental care and visited us 2,293 times.

Indigenous Health Council (IHC)
Indigenous Health Council Lenses
Successes This Year
The IHC has been striving towards improving health care for the community, through braiding Indigenous traditional healing and primary health care best practices for seven years. The Council is comprised of numerous Indigenous and non-Indigenous service providers, as well as community members, whose common goal is community health and wellbeing through the use of the Seven Sacred Teachings and the Two Row Wampum. The IHC continues to work towards a decolonized relationship with partners, and provides guidance to numerous organizations. Guidance is provided through an Indigenous worldview, ensuring authenticity for truth and reconciliation in all capacities.
The IHC thanks KCHC staff, volunteers, and the Board of Directors for their support.
• Collaborating with KCHC in the implementation of the EarlyON program.
• Building a Sweatlodge at the Kingston site.
