ANNUAL REPORTUNITED WAY OF CENTRAL KENTUCKY
2018
LETTER FROM OUR BOARD CHAIR JON BALLARD
Thank you, to each of you who have made an investment with United Way of Central Kentucky or given of your time and talent to further our mission. It has been an honor to serve as Board Chairman for United Way and to see the level of love and kindness that exists in our communities. A special thank you to the Board of Directors for their continued dedication and guidance.
With your assistance, we have accomplished so much in the last year - all made possible by your continued support. With the success of our annual campaign, United Way provided grant funding to 23 local non-profit partners, helping facilitate 33 community programs. Way to Work has also shown great success, with more than 58 applicants completing soft skills training to become members. We auctioned off handbags for education, welcomed new Tocqueville donors, and most importantly, improved the lives of more than 59,000 people in our region.
Yet, there is still much work to be done. In our most recent investment cycle, we saw a short fall of over $520,000 in requests from our partner agencies. This shows that the needs in our community are still greater than the resources currently available through our fundraising efforts. With your help, we can do more as United Way volunteers and donors to improve the lives of those in need in our communities. All we need is you.
Thank you again for your heartfelt giving in 2018 to improve our region. Please join me again in 2019 to make an even greater impact.

In our region, 51% of children enter school unprepared to learn, not having the tools or skills needed to excel in the classroom. As champions for change in Central Kentucky, United Way hosted its first annual Power of The Purse event to raise awareness and funds for critical early literacy programs in our community. With over 100 guests in attendance, gentlemen took the stage to auction off designer handbags - collectively raising over $10,000 for local kindergarten readiness programs. A success made possible by the generous efforts of our amazing Marketing Committee volunteers!

ALEXIS DE TOCQUEVILLE, DEMOCRACY IN AMERICA, 1885
United Way’s Tocqueville Society recognizes local leaders and volunteer champions in our community who have devoted their time, talent, and funds to create
long-lasting impact. Since its establishment in 2013, United Way of Central Kentucky’s generous Tocqueville Society members have invested more than $550,000 in our community - improving lives through philanthropic leadership. Thank you to the following members for their continued support in 2018: Steve & Pam Montgomery, Dr. John & Julia Duplessis Jr., Carl & Anne Swope, Chad & Kimberly Sarver, Ron & Peggy Eppes, Ben & Laura LaRue.
Together we’re fighting for neighbors like Linda, who received care from our partners at The Community Health Clinic to help alleviate her pain and return her smile. Fathers like Jeremy, who worked with our partners at Hardin County Skills U to earn his GED and secure a living wage job to support his son. Moms like Chloe, who escaped domestic violence and can now provide a stable home for her two children with help from our partners at SpringHaven Domestic Violence Program.
#UNITEDWEWIN
At Way to Work, we’re facilitating success through a network of no-cost, comprehensive employment and barrier removal services. We do this by addressing the multiple concerns and needs of our members - helping individuals overcome barriers that keep them from attaining long-term employment and financial
self-sufficiency. Since launching in 2018, Way to Work, in partnership with Goodwill Industries of Kentucky, has seen 58 applicants complete soft skills training to become members. Of those members, 41 full-time placements were made with partner employers, with 90% of those individuals receiving health, dental and vision benefits for their families.
