SQUARE LOGS ARE PRODUCED IN NEW ZEALAND BY THE PEDERSEN GROUP
The Pedersen name has been synonymous with forestry processing solutions for nearly 40 years. Just 10 years after the company was established to produce roundwood for New Zealand Forest Products, Paul Pedersen became Managing Director and set the company on a stellar growth path.
Paul set about hiring the best people he could find to help deliver his clients new levels of operational efficiency. The results the Pedersen Group were achieving didn’t go unnoticed and they earned a reputation for being the company to turn to if you needed an innovative capital solution.
Within a few short years the Pedersen Group had grown to include chipping for pulp and paper companies, and had taken on export debarking plants and chip mills. The Pedersen Group now employs more than 180 people across three countries and is widely regarded as the best in the business.
Pedersen’s latest venture, producing square logs, gives log buyers globally the option to purchase partially processed logs and enjoy faster, easier and more productive conversion rates.

THE SQUARE LOG PROCESS
Square logs allow the END USER to achieve the MAXIMUM conversion rate at the lowest cost.
Customer-specific milling pattern can be QR coded to log if required.
Log is purchased from the grower and delivered to the square log processing plant.
Log is 3D scanned to generate the highest yield profile and processed into a square log.
Bark and residues remain in New Zealand for use by the pulp and paper industry and for bioenergy production.

Square logs are treated using Antiblu® Combo Antisapstain. For over 10 years, Antiblu® Combo has been the choice of New Zealand’s leading green timber exporters. No other commercial product has yet matched Antiblu® Combo’s consistent performance for protection of sawn timber against mould, sapstain and other fungi.
The operating room for the chemical spray system is self-contained, clean and safe for the operators. Normally the system will work automatically with occasional operator checks to ensure that solution stock is sufficient or to attend to any maintenance and housekeeping tasks.
All chemical storage, handling and application areas are protected from weather and contained on impervious concrete surfaces within bunded areas to prevent loss or spill of chemical to the exterior environment. It is worth noting that a similar chemical treatment program was previously run on this site for 15 years without environmental incident.
SQUARE LOG TREATMENT
THE ANTI-SAPSTAIN TREATMENT USED ON SQUARE LOGS IS APPLIED BY AN INLINE LINEAR SPRAY SYSTEM SUPPLIED BY GLOBAL LEADER LONZA.
THE ENDS ARE SPRAYED THROUGH A DEDICATEDEND SPRAY UNIT.
