1. Opening session a. Welcome from QUAA President, Sue Bates

Sue welcomed everyone and thanked them for attending the 2017 Annual General Meeting of Alumni Assembly. Voting members of Alumni Assembly have been identified by a blue dot on their name tag. A reminder that voting members include:

o All members of the Queen’s University Alumni Association Board of Directors and its Executive Committee

o President or delegate of each Alumni Branch o Assembly Members-at-Large o Principal of Queen's University, or a delegate o Representative appointed by Senate (one (1) representative) o President of the Alma Mater Society (AMS), and one (1) additional

individual o President of the Society of Graduate and Professional Students

(SGPS) and one (1) additional individual o President of the Queen’s Student Alumni Association (QSAA), and

one (1) additional individual o Representatives from University Council (up to six (6)

representatives) Not-voting members are invited to stay and attend the AGM as observers.

b. Approval of the 2017 AGM Agenda Sue asked for a motion that the agenda for the 2017 Annual General Meeting by approved as submitted. Moved by Leilei Lee, seconded by Tim Packulak, that the agenda by accepted into the official record.

c. Approval of the 2016 Minutes from the AGM of Alumni Assembly Appendix A: Minutes from 2017 AGM Sue asked for a motion that the minutes from the 2016 Annual General meeting be approved as submitted. Moved by Yusaf Kappaya, seconded by Jasmit De Saffel, that the minutes from the 2016 AGM be accepted into the official record.

2. QUAA Financial Reports Appendix B: QUAA Financial Reports Sue noted that the Financial Reports include the final report for the 15-16 fiscal year and the draft report for 16-17. The final 16-17 Financial Report will be presented at the 2018 Annual General Meeting. Sue provided a review of the four funds that the QUAA Board of Directors overseas. The QUAA Financial Reports were circulated in advance of the Annual General Meeting.

a. The Iris Marsh Alumni Expansion Fund: provides funding for QUAA Grants

i. Applications for QUAA Grants can be submitted by students groups, alumni; funding is usually between $200 - $1,000.

b. The F. MacRae Speaker’s Fund: assists with the Alumni Speakers Programme

c. The Alumni Excellence in Teaching Award Fund: provides funding for the $5,000 monetary portion of the Teaching Award, along with other costs associated with the administration of the Award.

i. The Selection Committee for the Alumni Award for Excellence in Teaching comprises: Chair, two faculty representatives, three student representatives and two alumni representatives

d. The QUAA Projects Fund is the only fund available for use at the discretion of the QUAA Board. The Executive Committee has made the decision that no more than $500 will be spent from the fund per year. The final decision on the use of the funds are made by the Executive Director, Alumni Relations & Annual Giving and the QUAA President.

e. Questions: i. There is currently no intention to endow the QUAA Projects Fund

as $50,000 would need to be raised within 5 years. ii. There has been no consideration to date to try to fundraise for the

F. MacRae Speakers’ Fund. iii. There is currently no open process for applications to be received

for the F. MacRae Speakers’ Fund – the terms for the process would need to be finalized before considering.

iv. The terms for the F. MacRae Speakers’ Fund do not specify the audience that the speaker would address.

v. The call for applications for the QUAA Grants (Iris Marsh Alumni Expansion Fund) are circulated widely. The call for applications usually opens at the beginning of September and deadline is

October 31. Decisions for applications are normally finalized within 2-weeks of the deadline.

Sue asked for a motion that the QUAA Financial Reports, including the Final 2015-16 Financial Report and the Preliminary 2016-17 Financial Report be accepted into the official record. Moved by Edmond Chan, seconded by Jackie Lewis, that the QUAA Financial Reports be accepted into the official record.

3. QUAA President’s Report

QUAA President’s Report to Alumni Assembly 2016 - 2017

Sue reviewed the slides as part of the QUAA President’s Report to Alumni Assembly

a. QUAA President or delegate is an official member of the External Relations & Development Committee of Queen’s Board of Trustees, and an Alumni Representative on University Council and the Board of Trustees

b. 175th Celebrations i. Thank you Stacy Kelly and his committee for putting together the

Global Oil Thigh video. Thank you also to all of the branches that coordinated events and activities for Queen’s 175th

ii. AMS 175th initiative – roughly 500,000 hours have been logged so far. Goal is to get 175 years’ worth of hours http://175yearsofservice.com/

c. Homecoming 2016 i. Opportunities and challenges related to the new field

ii. The Reunion Coordinators reception (in its second year), provided a great opportunity to connect with Reunion Coordinators

iii. Homecoming 2017 – October 13-15 1. Celebrating classes ending in 2’s and 7’s 2. Class of 1967 joining the Tricolour Guard

d. Travel – London, UK and the Herstmonceux (first time) i. Presented 175 flags to students (Nathan Utioh, Past-President of the

QSAA is currently at the castle) ii. Event in London with Stefanie Reid (former QUAA One to Watch

ii. Celebrating Theresa Wetzel (Rising Star Volunteer Award), Kathy Owen (Herbert J. Hamilton Volunteer Service Award) and the Calgary Branch, Nicholas Godwin (Initiative of the Year Award) this evening

g. Both the QUAA Board of Directors and the QSAA have achieved 100% participation in Annual Giving

h. 6 Association Bursaries – Calgary, Guelph, Toronto, Kingston, Ottawa and the QUAA

i. Ottawa is starting new bursary and the New York branch is also looking to start a bursary

i. Thank you to Jasmit De Saffel, outgoing QSAA President, and welcome to Max Garcia, incoming QSAA President

j. QUAA Board of Directors i. Included in the President’s report are the priorities for each

portfolio for the past year ii. Both the QUAA Board and Executive Committee meet monthly by

conference call, and have two planning meetings (fall and spring) iii. Recruitment for the QUAA Board is the responsibility of the

Leadership Development Committee. For vacant positions on the Executive, the LDC looks at current Board members, for vacant Board roles, the LDC looks at other volunteer communities. The list of potential volunteers is reviewed with staff partners along with the position descriptions for the role.

k. New Vision for the QUAA Board of Directors: “The QUAA Board will engage, develop, and celebrate outstanding Queen’s

alumni volunteer leaders.” i. The goal of the vision is to help strengthen the relationship between

the QUAA Board and the volunteer communities it serves ii. New twitter account for the QUAA Board (QUAA_Board, email at

iii. Director positions on the QUAA Board focus on particular programs or projects while Director-at-Large positions provide a voice at the table for a particular constituency.

d. Sue noted that Judith Brown, Executive Director, Alumni Relations & Annual Giving, Associate Vice-Principal (Advancement) will be retiring at the end of May. Judith has been instrumental to the QUAA Board of Directors and has served alongside eight Presidents of the QUAA. In

recognition to Judith, Sue noted that a donation has been made to the Judith Brown Bursary at the Ban Righ Centre.

George welcomed everyone and thanked them for attending the 2016 Annual General Meeting of Alumni Assembly. George reminded everyone that voting members of Assembly have been identified on the back of their nametags. Non-voting members are invited to stay and attend the AGM as observers.

i. Alumni Assembly is the voting body of the Alumni Association. Voting members include:

o All members of the Queen’s University Alumni Association Board of Directors and its Executive Committee

2. QUAA Financial Report Appendix B: QUAA Financial Report George highlighted that the QUAA Financial Reports were included in the delegate packages. The QUAA has 3 endowed funds (Iris Marsh Alumni Expansion Fund, the F. MacRae Speaker’s Fund, and the Alumni Excellence in Teaching Fund) and 1 expendable fund (the QUAA Projects Fund):

a. The Iris Marsh Alumni Expansion Fund: provides funding for QUAA Grants and Loans

b. The F. MacRae Speaker’s Fund: assists with the Alumni Speakers Programme, specifically with the expenses of bringing an alumna as speaker; she to be officially known as the “Florence MacRae Speaker”

c. The Alumni Excellence in Teaching Award Fund: provides funding for the $5,000 monetary portion of the Teaching Award, along with other costs associated with the administration of the Award. This year the Award will be presented to Professor Jacqueline Davies, Artsci’83, MA’85, PhD’97 from the Department of Philosophy

d. The QUAA Projects Fund: provides the QUAA Board with funding that can be used at the Board’s discretion on new initiatives that advance the mandate of the QUAA

i. The QUAA will be using a portion of the QUAA Projects Fund towards 175th initiatives in 2016 – 2017.

e. Alumni are able to donate directly to any of these funds. A suggestion was made that travel reimbursement can be directed to the funds on the claim form.

George asked for a motion that the QUAA Financial Report be approved as submitted. Moved by Sue Bates, seconded by Heather Black, that the QUAA Financial Report be accepted into the official record.

Queen’s University Alumni Association Final 2015-16 Financial Report May 1, 2015 to April 30, 2016

This report summarizes the annual activity in the following three endowed (interest bearing) funds: The Iris Marsh Alumni Expansion Fund; The F. MacRae Speaker’s Fund; and The Alumni Excellence in Teaching Award Fund. The yearly activity in the QUAA Projects Fund account is also documented.

Sue Bates, Artsci'91 President, QUAA and Chair, Board of Directors Born in Kingston to a Queen’s family, Sue graduated in 1991 and immediately moved across the pond and settled in Scotland, followed by moves to the Bahamas and the Turks and Caicos Islands. With each move, Sue connected with the Alumni Association, serving as Branch Contact. Upon her return to Canada in 2005 Sue volunteered with the QUAA Kingston Branch and currently serves as a University Councillor, as well as the Alumni representative to UCAR

(University Council on Athletics & Recreation). Sue can often be found decked out in tricolour, cheering on her beloved Gaels. When not volunteering her time with various Kingston organizations, Sue works as an assistant to a financial advisor, a job she loves.

Zahra Valani, Artsci’03, Ed’04 Executive Vice-President, Operations Zahra graduated from the Concurrent Education program at Queen's University in 2004. During her time at Queen’s she worked for the Queen’s Telefundraising Services working her way up to being the supervisor in her final year of graduation. She was also involved with the ThankQ Program as the Co-Chair and was the Director of the National Technology Youth Leadership conference working closely with the office of the Dean of Arts and Science.

After graduation Zahra worked at Queen's as the Alumni Officer, Students. Upon her return to Toronto, she worked at York University as the Annual Programs Officer, at St. Clement’s as the Manager Of Annual Giving And Major Gifts and at Branksome Hall as the Executive Director of Advancement. In 2015, she accepted the Director of Advancement and Communications position at Hillfield Strathallan College overseeing the Fundraising and Communications Department. Zahra volunteered as the Treasurer for the Queen's Toronto Branch Executive, Co-Chair of the 2008 John Orr Dinner and Dance, served on the Board of Directors for the June Callwood Centre and Panel chair for the Toronto United Way Allocations Committee. Her current volunteer efforts include serving on the board of the Hamilton Children's Choir.

Jeremy Mosher, Artsci'08 Executive Vice-President, Volunteer Recruitment and Recognition Jeremy graduated from Queen’s in 2008 with a degree in Applied Economics. While at Queen’s he was active as a Gael, a Coordinator for ArtSci Orientation and with the QSB Executive Education Program. Jeremy also met his very supportive wife Andrea, Artsci’08, while at Queen’s and then shortly after graduation they both shipped off to Calgary. Jeremy currently works for CIBC Asset Management as an equity analyst covering the energy sector. Jeremy is passionate about volunteering with the Queen’s Alumni Association (with a

fantastic team of volunteers), the Queen’s University Investment Council (QUIC), all things energy focused, outdoors, music and the Toronto Maple Leafs. I am very proud to get to work with Queen’s volunteers and the QUAA and encourage anyone interested in getting involved to send me a quick note so we can discuss!

Judith Brown, Artsci’76, MA’79 Ex-Officio, Associate VP (Alumni Relations & Annual Giving) Judith joined Queen’s University’s Office of Advancement in the fall of 1993, and was responsible for Donor Relations and Stewardship for ten years prior to her appointment as Executive Director, Alumni Relations and Annual Giving, and most recently as Associate Vice-Principal, Advancement. She holds a BA and an MA from Queen’s University in French Studies, and has served the University in a variety of capacities, including Senate, the Board of Trustees, the Aboriginal

Council of Queen’s University, and the Campus Planning Advisory Committee. Judith currently serves on the Board of the Charitable Gift Funds Canada Foundation, an organization created to manage charitable donations on behalf of individuals, families, or organizations. In addition to their three grown children and one grandson, Judith and her husband Gordon (BEd’74) have two dogs. They live on a lake north of Kingston.

David Babin, Artsci’07, MA’09 Director, Marketing and Communications David had the good fortune to become a Queen’s alumnus two times over, graduating in 2007 with a BAH in Economics, and then with an MA in Economics in 2009. He then went on to graduate from Osgoode Hall Law School with a JD in 2012. David was actively involved in campus life while at Queen’s, as a member of the Queen’s Bands, Operations Chair for Arts and Science Orientation Week, a Stu-Con, and a bartender at TAPS.

He became actively involved in the alumni world by joining the Calgary branch executive as the chair for New Media between 2014 and 2016 and was lucky enough to work with some of the best alumni representatives in the country.

David is now back in Toronto where he serves as Enforcement Counsel for the Mutual Fund Dealers Association of Canada. He is also a member of University Council, a patient Leafs fan, and a competitive axe thrower.

Johanne Blansche, NSc'88 Director-at-Large, Reunion Coordinator Johanne was born and raised in Toronto but presently lives in Guelph. She graduated from the University of Guelph in 1982 with a BASc and from Queen's University in 1988 with a degree in NSc. Throughout her time at Queen's she volunteered of a number of different committees and upon graduation became her class's reunion coordinator, a position she holds to this day. She has had the opportunity to live abroad several times to such places as Paris (where she

studied at the Sorbonne) Geneva and Riyadh in Saudi Arabia. In her role as the Director-at-Large Reunion Coordinator, she hopes to present the voice of the Reunion Coordinators to the QUAA board.

Rico Garcia, Artsci'14 Director, Alumni Volunteer Summit Born in Monterrey, Mexico, Rico moved to Canada in 2009 to attend Queen's (he was lucky to have witnessed the Gaels win the Vanier Cup in his first year). At Queen's, Rico studied Applied Economics and Global Development Studies, lived in five different residences, worked as a Residence Don, and loved to get involved (particularly in student government).

A past recipient of the QUAA Outstanding Student Award and the Tricolour Award, Rico loves volunteering for Queen's and sharing his passion for his alma mater with his younger brother Max.

Rico currently resides in Toronto where he works as a management consultant with McKinsey & Company. In addition to his Board duties, Rico is the Year President for the Artsci Class of 2013, he enjoys the outdoors, and is an avid Denver Broncos fan.

Lisa Hood, Artsci’04 Director, Alumni Giving Lisa graduated from Queen’s Faculty of Arts and Science in 2004 with a degree in biology and psychology. Although she loved her research experience at the Queen’s University Biological Station (QUBS) it was her work as a student caller at Queen’s Telefundraising Services (QTS) and co-chair of the 2004 ThankQ program that led to her career. Lisa worked for Queen’s Annual Giving for six years, managing QTS and then in the Faculty of Applied Science. During this time EngSoc honoured her with the Golden Pillar Award and

made her an honourary member of EngSoc. In 2009 Lisa assumed the role of Associate Director, Annual Fund for the University of Guelph where she oversees a team responsible for raising approximately $5M annually. At U of G, Lisa completed her Masters in Leadership, earning Dean’s Honour recognition for her research on employee retention in the nonprofit sector, and in 2014 was named to Guelph’s Top 40 Under 40. During her free time, Lisa is an active volunteer with Canadian Blood Services, the Guelph Community Foundation, her highschool’s alumni association, CCAE, CASE and, of course, Queen’s (University Councillor and ArtSci 04 Class Giving Chair). She is a proud member of Grant Hall Society and the Royal Legacy Society. Lisa and her husband, Jeff, welcomed their first child, Patrick, in 2015 and are enjoying every chance they can to expose him to all things tricolour.

Stacy Kelly, Artsci'93 Director, Global Branch Network Born in Ottawa, Stacy grew up in Pontiac, Quebec. After attending Cegep Heritage College, where he served on the student association executive, he ran away to Queen's at the tender age of 17. Stacy loved residence so much he stayed for 3 years, eventually joining the executive of the Main Campus Residence Council (MCRC). He later moved to Science '44 Co-op, where he was elected president and sat on the board for two years. In addition to MCRC and Science'44, Stacy has fond memories of BEWIC soccer, Queen's

Model UN, Queen's Croquet Club, and Philosophy Departmental Student Council (DSC). A passionate advocate for the arts, Stacy was the founding artistic director of Aylmer Youth Theatre, the founding director of ASUS Arts Adventure Camp, and director and president of Progressive Independent Community Press. Stacy was a Queen's staff member from 2000 to 2010, with positions in the Office of Undergraduate Admission, Queen's School of Business, and the Office of Advancement. During his tenure Stacy was appointed the staff representative to the Senate Committee on Residence, the Senate Cyclical Program Review Committee, and the Capital Assets and Finance Committee of the Board of Trustees. Stacy relocated to Toronto in October 2011 to take on a new opportunity in advancement at OCAD University, where is he currently the Associate Director, Campaign. Wanting to keep his Queen's ties strong Stacy joined the executive of the Queen's Toronto Alumni Branch in early 2012, and has served as both the VP (Communications) and currently as advisor to the branch executive. Stacy was recently appointed as an institutional ambassador for the Canadian Council for the Advancement of Education (CCAE).

Colin McLeod, Artsci'10 Director-at-Large, Young Alumni Colin was born in Cornwall, ON and graduated from Queen's with a BAH in Political Studies. During his time at Queen's, Colin was a Senior Peer Advisor at the Summer Orientation and Academic Registration (S.O.A.R.), Head Manager of the AMS Walkhome Service, and President of the Queen's Student Alumni Association (QSAA). After graduation, Colin moved to Ottawa and completed a Master's of Arts in Public Administration at Carleton University. He also got involved with the Ottawa Alumni Branch

and founded the Branch's Young Alumni Committee. The Committee has held several events, and has provided an avenue for the many young alumni in the region to connect. Colin currently works at Global Affairs Canada, where he is responsible for providing international economic policy advice that advances the Department’s foreign policy and trade agendas. Colin is happiest when hanging out with his wife, Laura (ArtSci ’10, MPA ’11) and Portuguese water dog, Alfie.

Executive Committee of the Board of Directors - Oversees the implementation of the Association’s strategic priorities and policies Sue Bates, Artsci’91 President, QUAA and Chair, QUAA Board of Directors This is a hybrid role. As President of the Alumni Association, the incumbent is responsible for setting a clear and compelling direction for the Association, and for promoting its well-being, interests, and influence. The President is the “face” of the Alumni Association, making numerous public appearances, reporting out to various Association and University stakeholder groups, participating in key Committees, and acting as the official spokesperson on Association matters. As Chair of the Board of Directors, the incumbent provides leadership to a diverse and committed group of volunteers, motivating them to contribute to their full potential in achieving desired goals. The President chairs Board meetings as well as meetings of the Executive Committee of the Board, and the Annual General Meeting of Alumni Assembly. Jeremy Mosher, Artsci’08 Executive-Vice President, Volunteer Recruitment & Recognition The Executive Vice-President, Recruitment and Recognition, oversees the “life cycle” of volunteers serving on the Board of Directors of the QUAA. From identification to recruitment, orientation through recognition, and finally stewardship, the EVP works to ensure that relationships with volunteers reflect best contemporary practice. Zahra Valani, Artsci’03, Ed’04 Executive-Vice President, Operations The Executive Vice-President, Operations ensures the effective and cohesive operation of the Board of Directors. The EVP Operations partners with Department staff on matters of policy and procedures, including the Code of Conduct, the Travel policy, constitution and bylaws and the QUAA’s Grants and Loans program.

QUAA Board of Directors - Are the senior governing body of the Association, the Board establishes priorities and policies that further the mission of the Association and advances the strategic priorities of the Association. Programs – Directors work on ongoing programs throughout the year

David Babin, Artsci’07, MA’09, Director, Alumni Marketing & Communications The Director, Alumni Marketing & Communications drives QUAA Board of Directors Marketing and Communications initiatives. In partnership with Alumni Relations, the Director, Marketing & Communications thinks strategically about marketing and communications to ensure they are effective and relevant to Queen’s diverse alumni community.

Lisa Hood, Artsci’04 Director, Alumni Giving The Director, Alumni Giving serves as the Board’s champion and advocate for alumni philanthropic giving. Through education and outreach to key alumni demographics, the Director, Alumni Giving encourages alumni philanthropic participation in support of the life and work of Queen’s University.

Stacy Kelly, Artsci’93 Director, Global Branch Network The Director, Global Branch Network, will partner with Alumni Relations and the Branches of the Queen’s University Alumni Association to create growth and development strategies for and with the QUAA’s Branch network. In this role, the Director, Global Branch Network also brings a Branch perspective to the Board’s strategic planning process, ensuring strategy and programming decisions are reflective of Queen’s geographically diverse alumni community and the Branch volunteer organizations that serve these populations.

The Director, Alumni Volunteer Summit acts as the Board’s key advocate and spokesperson for volunteer enrichment. Through strategic planning and stakeholder outreach, the Director, Alumni Volunteer Summit partners with the Volunteer Relations staff in Alumni Relations and the Alumni Officer, QUAA to plan and deliver high-level development opportunities for alumni volunteers consistent with the Vision for Volunteering at Queen’s.

UNDER ACTIVE RECRUITMENT Director, Alumni Awards The Director, Alumni Awards champions the Alumni Awards program as a premier opportunity to recognize alumni for their outstanding achievements and contributions to Queen’s and the QUAA. Executive Committee of the Board of Directors

Jeremy Mosher, Artsci'08 Volunteer President, QUAA Jeremy graduated from Queen’s in 2008 with a degree in Applied Economics. While at Queen’s he was active as a Gael, a Coordinator for ArtSci Orientation and with the QSB Executive Education Program. Jeremy also met his very supportive wife Andrea, Artsci’08, while at Queen’s and they recently welcomed a son (Joshua Kevin) into the Mosher & Queen’s family. Jeremy currently works for National Bank of Canada as a Vice President of Equity Sales and

pens the Mosh-Pit investment newsletter. Jeremy is passionate about volunteering with the Queen’s Alumni Association (with a fantastic team of volunteers), learning about great businesses, music and the Toronto Maple Leafs. I am very proud to get to work with Queen’s volunteers and the QUAA and encourage anyone interested in getting involved to send me a quick note so we can discuss!

David Babin, Artsci’07, MA’09 Executive Vice-President, Volunteer Recruitment and Recognition David had the good fortune to become a Queen’s alumnus two times over, graduating in 2007 with a BAH in Economics, and then with an MA in Economics in 2009. He then went on to graduate from Osgoode Hall Law School with a JD in 2012. David was actively involved in campus life while at Queen’s, as a member of the Queen’s Bands, Operations Chair for Arts and Science Orientation Week, a Stu-Con, and a bartender at TAPS. He became actively involved in the alumni world by joining the Calgary branch executive as

the chair for New Media between 2014 and 2016 and was lucky enough to work with some of the best alumni representatives in the country. David is now back in Toronto where he serves as Enforcement Counsel for the Mutual Fund Dealers Association of Canada. He is also a member of University Council, a patient Leafs fan, and a competitive axe thrower.

Rico Garcia, Artsci'13 Executive Vice-President, Operation Born in Monterrey, Mexico, Rico moved to Canada in 2009 to study Applied Economics and Global Development Studies at Queen’s (he was lucky to have witnessed the Gaels win the Vanier Cup in his first year). At Queen’s, Rico became very involved in student government, where he served in various leadership roles with ASUS, the QSAA, and the AMS. He also lived in five different residences while working as a Residence Don. A past recipient of the QUAA Outstanding Award and the Tricolour Award, Rico loves

volunteering for Queen’s and sharing his passion for his alma mater with his younger brother Max. Rico spent the last few years living in Toronto working as a management consultant with McKinsey & Company, however, he currently resides in Boston, where he is pursuing a Masters of Public Policy degree at the Harvard Kennedy School. In addition to his Board duties, Rico is the Year President for the Artsci Class of 2013, he enjoys the outdoors, and is an avid Denver Broncos fan.

Ryan Rodrigues Ex-Officio, Associate VP (Alumni Relations & Annual Giving) Ryan Rodrigues is the AVP (Alumni Relations & Annual Giving) at Queens University. As the chief alumni relations officer he leads a team of dedicated professionals, who inspire Queen’s 155,000+ graduates residing in over 150 countries throughout the world. Ryan is ex-officio to the Queen’s University Alumni Association (QUAA) board of directors. He remains an active volunteer and member of the following professional organizations: the Canadian Council for the Advancement of Education (CCAE); the Council for Advancement and

Support of Education (CASE); the Council of Alumni Association Executives (CAAE); and the Canadian Professional Sales Association (CPSA). He holds a BA from Huron University College and an MBA from the Ivey Business School at Western University.

QUAA Board of Directors

Arlette Boghoskhan, MIR’14 Director-at-Large, Graduate Alumni Born in Montreal, Arlette graduated from the Professional Masters in Industrial Relations in 2014. Her fondest memories of the program included: getting a taste of Kingston on her weekend courses once a month while living in Montreal, developing a network of Industrial Relations professionals across Canada and meeting Queen’s alumni at lunchtime speaker series events.

Prior to convocation, she joined the Montreal chapter of the QUAA as VP Communications. Since May 2016, she has served as Branch President and has been passionate about growing the local alumni community. One of her favourite aspects of volunteering for Queen’s is connecting with fellow alumni volunteers back on campus at the annual Alumni Volunteer Summit.

Arlette currently works in Human Resources for the National Film Board of Canada, and enjoys discovering Montreal and traveling (to Kingston and beyond!). She wears her tricolor proudly, and takes every opportunity to promote Queen’s and the MIR.

Tuba Chishti, Artsci’15 Director-at-Large, Young Alumni Tuba was born in India, grew up in Saudi Arabia and Canada. During her time at Queen’s, Tuba spent way more time broadening her out of classroom experiences- usually in student government, but eventually graduated in 2015 with a BAH in Economics, and a minor in Biochemistry. After Queen’s, she stumbled into the professional side of working at a post-secondary institution and took her first job at the University of British Columbia, and then at the

University of Guelph. Currently, Tuba is happily working in Toronto at Humber College with college and university residents helping them transition into post-secondary environments, build resilience, and take responsibility for their actions. She often jokes that she is slowly making her way eastward bound back to Kingston. During her free time, Tuba is usually at a park with her many cousins’ babies, reading a book, or catching up on Netflix.

Lisa Hood, Artsci’04 Director, Alumni Giving Lisa graduated from Queen’s Faculty of Arts and Science in 2004 with a degree in biology and psychology. Although she loved her research experience at the Queen’s University Biological Station (QUBS) it was her work as a student caller at Queen’s Telefundraising Services and co-chair of the 2004 ThankQ program that led to her career. Lisa worked for Queen’s Annual Giving for six years, managing Queen's Telemarketing Students and then in the Faculty of Applied Science. During this time EngSoc honoured her

with the Golden Pillar Award and made her an honorary member of EngSoc. In 2009 Lisa assumed the role of Associate Director, Annual Fund for the University of Guelph where she oversees a team responsible for raising approximately $5M annually. At U of G, Lisa completed her Masters in Leadership, earning Dean’s Honour recognition for her research on employee retention in the nonprofit sector, and in 2014 was named to Guelph’s Top 40 Under 40. During her free time, Lisa volunteers with CCAE, CASE and, of course, Queen’s (University Councillor and Artsci 04 Class Giving Chair). She is a proud member of Grant Hall Society and the Royal Legacy Society. Lisa lives with her husband Jeff and son Patrick in Guelph. Colin McLeod, Artsci'10 Director, Alumni Volunteer Summit

Colin was born in Cornwall, ON and graduated from Queen's with a BAH in Political Studies. During his time at Queen's, Colin was a Senior Peer Advisor at the Summer Orientation and Academic Registration (S.O.A.R.), Head Manager of the AMS Walkhome Service, and President of the Queen's Student Alumni Association (QSAA). After graduation, Colin moved to Ottawa and completed a Master's of Arts in Public Administration at Carleton University. He also got involved with the Ottawa Alumni Branch and founded the Branch's Young Alumni Committee.

Colin currently works at Global Affairs Canada, where he works on strategic policy related to Canada's economic sanctions regime. Colin is happiest when hanging out with his wife, Laura (Artsci’10, MPA ’11) and Portuguese water dog, Alfie.

Kathy Owen, Arts’67 Director, Alumni Awards

Kathy graduated from Queen’s in 1966 with a degree in English and French, after which she embarked on a career as a teacher. During the 70s she was involved in local Queen’s Alumni branches in Orillia and Toronto. After her retirement as a secondary school principal in 2008, Kathy again looked to Queen’s Alumni for volunteer opportunities. For seven years she chaired the Events Committee for the Toronto Branch, a committee whose purpose was to provide engaging activities and speakers for the wide demographic in the Toronto area. A recent recipient of the Herb Hamilton Award for Volunteer Service, Kathy is enjoying her role on the QUAA Board. When she is not volunteering for Queen’s, she can be found coaching secondary school principals; travelling with her husband, Bob (Arts’66, Law’68); or

enjoying the pursuits of her three grandchildren.

Adam Sheter, Sc’08 Director, Global Branch Network Adam graduated from Queen's in 2008 with a degree in Applied Science (Mechanical). During his time at Queen's, Adam served as a frosh week 'FREC' and played numerous recreational sports. Upon graduating, he accepted a work term in Fort McMurray before landing in Calgary, Alberta. Adam's project management career spans 10 years in the oil and gas industry ranging from downstream to upstream projects. In his spare time, Adam enjoys volunteering with the Queen's Alumni Branch in Calgary, where he served as the Calgary Branch President from 2014-2016 and was recognized with the 'Rising Star' award in 2016.

Adam is excited to bring his experience forward to the QUAA and further benefit the Queen's community! When not volunteering for Queen's, you can find Adam enjoying the great outdoors or honing his Brazilian Jiu-Jitsu skills in the gym.

Irene Wood, Artsci’79 Director-at-Large, Reunion Coordinator Irene was born and raised in Bowmanville, ON and graduated from Queen's in 1978 with a BA in French and German literature. While at Queen's, Irene was involved with the Women's Residence Council, intramural basketball and Queen's Bands as a majorette. Since graduation Irene has been part of local Queen's Alumni branches in Hamilton, Toronto (Past President) and now Hamilton-Halton and is always decked out in her tricolour wardrobe at all Queen’s events. She currently serves as the Artsci'79 Reunion Coordinator. Irene is a

proud member of Queen’s Royal Legacy Society. Currently, Irene works in the Office of the Mayor for the City of Hamilton and previously has enjoyed a 30 year career in administrative, marketing and project management in both the public and private sectors. Irene loves to be engaged in her community and volunteers with the Art Gallery of Burlington, as well as being actively involved in municipal, provincial and federal politics. Besides tennis in the summer and curling in the winter, Irene and her husband, John, have embraced a new chapter in their lives with the birth of their first grandchild, Archer - a future Queen's grad.

Appendix E 2018 - 2019 QUAA BOARD OF DIRECTORS ORGANIZATIONAL STRUCTURE

Executive Committee of the Board of Directors - Oversees the implementation of the Association’s strategic priorities and policies Jeremy Mosher, Artsci’08 President, QUAA and Chair, QUAA Board of Directors This is a hybrid role. As President of the Alumni Association, the incumbent is responsible for setting a clear and compelling direction for the Association, and for promoting its well-being, interests, and influence. The President is the “face” of the Alumni Association, making numerous public appearances, reporting out to various Association and University stakeholder groups, participating in key Committees, and acting as the official spokesperson on Association matters. As Chair of the Board of Directors of the Alumni Association, the incumbent provides leadership to a diverse and committed group of volunteers, motivating them to contribute to their full potential in achieving desired goals. The President Chairs QUAA Board meetings as well as meetings of the Executive Committee of the QUAA Board of Directors, the Leadership Development Committee and the Annual General Meeting of Alumni Assembly. David Babin, Artsci’07, MA’09 Executive-Vice President, Volunteer Recruitment & Recognition The Executive Vice-President, Recruitment & Recognition, oversees the “life cycle” of volunteers serving on the Board of Directors of the QUAA. From identification to recruitment, orientation through recognition, and finally stewardship, the EVP works to ensure that relationships with volunteers reflect best contemporary practice. In addition to providing ongoing operational support and guidance, the EVP, Volunteer Recruitment and Recognition may replace the President, at his or her request. Rico Garcia, Artsci’13 Executive-Vice President, Operations The Executive Vice-President, Operations ensures the effective and cohesive operation of the Board of Directors. The EVP Operations partners with the Associate Director, Operations and Business Relations and the Alumni Officer, QUAA on matters of policy and procedures, including the Code of Conduct, the Travel policy, constitution and bylaws and the QUAA’s Grant program. In addition to providing ongoing operational support and guidance, the EVP, Operations may replace the President, at his or her request.

QUAA Board of Directors - Are the senior governing body of the Association, the Board establishes priorities and policies that further the mission of the Association and advances the strategic priorities of the Association. Programs – Directors work on ongoing programs throughout the year UNDER ACTIVE RECRUITMENT Director, Alumni Marketing & Communications The Director, Alumni Marketing & Communications plans and implements QUAA Board of Directors Marketing and Communications initiatives. In partnership with the Alumni Marketing and Communications unit, the Director, Marketing & Communications thinks strategically about marketing and communications to ensure they are effective and relevant to Queen’s diverse alumni community. Lisa Hood, Artsci’04 Director, Alumni Giving The Director, Alumni Giving serves as the Board’s champion and advocate for alumni philanthropic giving. Through education and outreach to key alumni demographics, the Director, Alumni Giving encourages alumni philanthropic participation in support of the life and work of Queen’s University. Adam Shetler, Sc’08 Director, Global Branch Network The Director, Global Branch Network, will partner with Alumni Relations and Annual Giving and the Branches of the Queen’s University Alumni Association to create growth and development strategies for and with the QUAA’s Branch network. In this role, the Director, Global Branch Network also brings a Branch perspective to the Board’s strategic planning process, ensuring strategy and programming decisions are reflective of Queen’s geographically diverse alumni community and the Branch volunteer organizations that serve these populations.

Through strategic planning and stakeholder outreach, the Director, Alumni Volunteer Summit partners with the Volunteer Relations staff in Alumni Relations & Annual Giving and the Alumni Officer, QUAA to plan and deliver high-level development opportunities for alumni volunteers consistent with the Vision for Volunteering at Queen’s.

Kathy Owen, Arts’67 Director, Alumni Awards The Director, Alumni Awards champions the Alumni Awards program as a premier opportunity to recognize alumni for their outstanding achievements and contributions to Queen’s and the QUAA. Through strategic planning and promotion of the QUAA Awards, the Director, Alumni Awards partners with the Alumni Officer, QUAA and the Manager, Alumni Marketing and Communications to ensure alumni awards are novel and relevant to Queen’s diverse alumni community.

Tuba Chishti, Artsci’15 Director-at-Large, Young Alumni The Director-at-Large, Young Alumni acts as the Board’s key representative and spokesperson for alumni less than 10 years out. In this advisory role, the Director-at-Large, Young Alumni brings the perspective of alumni less than 10 years out to the Board’s strategic planning process, ensuring strategy and programming decisions are reflective of the interests to young alumni.
