In 1982 the Platte River Trails Trust (PRTT) began constructing a River Trail that would serve as the spine of our community’s
non-motorized trail system and a way for users to
connect to many local parks and businesses, downtown and
much more. Today we’re still going strong thanks to our volunteer-led Board and support from our partner the City of Casper and many other funders, sponsors and Friends. In 2019 the Platte River Trails made a new connection to neighborhoods south of Wyoming Boulevard AND rebuilt a much beloved older section of our River Trail. The positive feedback we received on these projects made it clear that our community wants well maintained trails AND new trail connections directly to their neighborhoods.
The PRTT is committed to working on these priorities in 2019 and beyond. This year the PRTT will begin work on an important connection
between the River Trail in Morad Park and the Walmart shopping center on CY Avenue that we hope will lead to an eventual connection to the Wolf Creek neighborhood. The PRTT will enhance the connection between the bike lanes on Durbin Street and the Casper Mountain Road trail that begins south of the YMCA. In addition, we will also reconstruct two older sections of the River Trail.
We’ve realized over the years that our community trails, in addition to being about connecting people to places, are also about facilitating connections to one another and to the beautiful environment we call home here in central Wyoming. In 2019 look for efforts from the PRTT Board in support of those connections including regular Friends of the Platte River Trails meetings and volunteer opportunities, a new trail safety and etiquette campaign, our Spring Clean-up, the 2019 Food Truck Friday season, and 2019 Riverfest.

FOCUS ON WAYFINDING
MY TRAIL TO A HEALTHY LIFEI have lived my entire 50 years in Casper and had no idea that there was a Platte River Trail, I had never been on it. In 2013 I weighed 497 pounds, was very sick and very inactive, and had been that way for most of my adult life. I could not walk very far but once I got some medical attention I started on a new journey to better health.
I started walking at indoor places to get stronger and stronger so that one day, I could walk the entire length of the path from PV to Bryan Stock (10 miles). And I did it, I took several breaks but I made it the entire way!
Now I ride the entire path both directions, 20 miles! I don’t do it everyday but I do ride my bike most every day during the spring, summer and fall when the weather permits.
During my walks and my biking on the trail I have met so many wonderful people that could not believe that I have lost over 300 pounds. My goal in my journey was not to be skinny but to be healthy and the Platte River Path has helped me reach that goal. We are so fortunate to have such a beautiful place to walk, run and bike! I hope to meet up with some more people on the path!
