Brief Description
This project has been designed based on the recomnrendations of the 2015 evaluation of UNDp,s ongoingsupport io the uxo secror, the 2014 capacity Assessmeni of the NRA, .s wel as the decision by theGovernment of Lao and UNDP to uiitize a project modality in lieu of the Trust Fund, and is a igned with rheGovernment of Lao's 8th NationalSocio Economtc Deve oprn€nt plan (8NSEDp), UXO Sector Sp 2011_2020,UXO Sector 5-year plan 2016 2020 as wei as national gender equality strategies and relevant internationalconventions, and norrns. lt wt I contribute to progress towards achieving the national SustainableDeve opment Goal 18. This project wil provide the progranrmatic and technical support necessary for thenationa institutions within the UXO sector {NRA and UXO Lao) to pursue the targets set out in the UXOSector Five Year Work Plan 2016-2020, as well as ihe NRA,s strategy for acceterated survey and c earance,MRE and VA activities.
In 2018, the NRA will continue to ir.prove the coordination of the UXO Secior in the imp ementation of theFive Year Sector Work Plan for 2016-2020. NRA will also be developing a 201S sector workp an and wi beplaying the malor roe in overseetng its inrplementation. Arnong other resutts, the NRA wi focus onincreasing quality of rkk education to support UXO risk educaiion in UXO communities of Lao pDR throughradio programming, update to MRE curricutum and matertats; facititating the provision of support to uXOvictims; accelerating the implementation of the new evidence based survey and clearance methodology toincrease efficiency and preparing for the impremeniation of the nationar cluster munitions survey; doublingthe Quality Assurance/Quality Control capacity and majntaining an effective tnformation Managementsystem. The NRA will a so focus on its institutional strengthening through the imp ementatjon of therecomrnendations from the capacity assessrnent carried out in 2014. ln order to minimize the funding gapsand to ensure NRA operations continue throughout the year, NRA wi actively take part in resourcenrobilization efforts and proactive y approach different development partners.NRA will also contribute inputs to the 8'h NsEDp nrid term review and the progress on sDG18 as well as tothe first voluntary National Reporting (vNR) of the susiainabte Development Goals which will be submittedto the uN in July 2018.
