On behalf of American Trucking Associations’ Safety Management Council and Transportation Security Council, we would like to invite you to attend the 2018 Policy Conference, March 19-20 at the Sheraton Suites Old Town Alexandria in historic Alexandria, VA.

As you recall, all committees and most working groups meet during the Safety Management Council and Transportation Security Council’s annual Policy Conference. Because some of these committees and working groups may not meet during the 2018 Safety, Security & Human Resources National Conference & Exhibition in Long Beach, CA, this may be the only opportunity that members will have to participate in committee and working group discussions, face-to-face decision-making, and peer-to-peer networking.

Whether or not you are a committee or working group member, we encourage every SMC and TSC member to attend this important meeting. Your councils thrive when members are engaged and providing input on association and policy matters. The Historic Alexandria location is ideally suited to ensuring attendance from American Trucking Associations’ staff and locally based regulatory and legislative personnel.

The annual Policy Conference provides significant networking opportunities, as both the Safety Management Council and the Transportation Security Council meet under one roof and at the same time. Won’t you join your colleagues and friends this year in Alexandria for productive discussion, decision-making and networking?

WASHINGTON, DC-AREA AIRPORTSRonald Reagan Washington National Airport (DCA), approximately 3 miles or 10 minutes from Old Town Alexandria, is the airport closest to the meeting. The airport is on the Blue and Yellow Metrorail lines. Taxi cabs from DCA to the Sheraton Suites Old Town run approximately $20.00. The Sheraton Suites Old Town also offers complimentary shuttle service to and from Reagan National Airport and the Airport Metro Station between the hours of 6 AM and 11 PM. The shuttle is available outside of the baggage claim area in Terminal A and doors 5 and 9 of the main terminal. The shuttle runs every half hour from the hotel; pick up from the airport is 15 minutes before and after the hour depending on traffic. Guests can contact the hotel for more information.

Washington Dulles International Airport (IAD) is approximately 22 miles from the meeting location. Cab fare from Dulles to Alexandria will run approximately $75.00.

Baltimore/Washington International Thurgood Marshall Airport (BWI) is about 45 miles from the meeting site, and taxi fare will run well over $100. The airport does have an Amtrak rail station located 1 ½ miles away with free shuttle buses to and from the terminals where you can take a train to Washington’s Union Station (WAS) and then transfer to Metrorail.

METRORAILFrom Ronald Reagan Washington National Airport, follow the signs in the airport to Metrorail. Take the Blue Line towards Franconia/Springfield or the Yellow Line towards Huntington one stop to the Braddock Road Metro station. From there, you can hail a taxi to the hotel.

If arriving at Washington’s Union Station on Amtrak, follow the signs to Metrorail and take the Red Line in the direction of Shady Grove. Transfer at Metro Center to the Blue Line to Franconia/Springfield, and exit at the Braddock Road Metro station.

HOTEL INFORMATIONA block of rooms has been reserved for Policy Conference attendees at the Sheraton Suites Old Town, 801 North Saint Asaph St., Alexandria, Virginia 22314, at the reduced rate of $219.00 (plus tax) Traditional Suite King. Only those registered for the meeting may reserve a room. Once you have successfully registered online, you will receive an email confirmation which will contain your personal hotel reservation link. The housing deadline is February 16, 2018.

Check-in/check-out: Check-in time is 3 PM. and check-out time is 12 PM.

Parking: Registered hotel guests enjoy the convenience of on-site parking in the self-park underground garage at the rate of $26.00 per day. Please note that the garage height restriction does not allow vehicles exceeding 6 feet 5 inches, which includes full-size vans, oversize SUVs, moving vans, and trucks. Guests leaving these vehicles in the hotel’s above-ground shuttle parking spots will be subject to additional fees.

Surrounding neighborhood parking is available and subject to city regulations and rates.

Hotel cancellation: If you must cancel your reservation, you will need to notify the hotel no later than 24 hours prior to your check-in date in order to avoid a penalty. Be sure to obtain a cancellation number.

Early departure fee: An early departure fee of $75.00 will apply if you check out prior to the confirmed checkout date.
