WELCOME MESSAGE FROM THE PRESIDENT

Welcome to the campus of Faulkner University! We are honored to have you as our guest for the 2018

Faulkner Lectures and our 75th anniversary. This year we are celebrating the historic founding of our university. It is a momentous occasion to reflect on the heroic sacrifice and unwavering resolve of the men and women who envisioned a Christ-centered institution in Montgomery. We are indebted to them for their lives of faithfulness.

Our theme for this year’s event is extremely timely and relevant. In the midst of chaos and a dynamic society, it is refreshing to know that our faith is anchored in an eternal God who is the Great I AM. We have assembled a tremendous group of talented presenters and scholars to address this fundamental theme.

We hope that this year’s program will both inspire and challenge you to understand God’s eternal nature and His active work in the Kingdom. If we can assist you in any way, please let us know.

All the best, Michael D. Williams, EdD President [email protected]

Welcome to the 2018 Faulkner Lectures for a thorough study of “God Is.” As we examine the

first person of the Godhead, we will see how our Father relates to us personally and corporately as the church. God’s attributes will be presented in ways that will challenge all of us in lives of dedication and service to Him.

A special guest speaker this year is Wissam al-Aethawi, a convert from Islam. He is a former member of the Republican Guard in Iraq but is now a gospel preacher who ministers to Muslims.

Be sure to view the program for lectures, special events, entertainment, and opportunities for fellowship.

I look forward to seeing you.

David W. Hester, PhD Director and Lecturer of Bible [email protected]

WELCOME MESSAGE FROM THE WORKSHOP COORDINATOR

Being a youth leader today is far more complex and diverse due to rapid cultural changes which create

major challenges for youth and family ministers. A rising skepticism of the Bible, increased loneliness, confusion regarding human sexuality, a me-first morality, and an era defined by achievement are cultural shifts which among others have changed the landscape of youth ministry. What is to be done?

The 2018 YFM Summit is dedicated to helping to meet these challenges by articulating and fostering countercultural biblical commitments regarding these and other concerns. Thank you for joining us. You will be blessed by the knowledge and experience of seasoned youth leaders who, much like you, seek to have an incredible impact on the character, competence, and faith of our young disciples of Christ.

Steve Wages, PhD, CFLEDirector, Cloverdale Center forYouth and Family [email protected]

Welcome to the 2018 Faulkner Lectures and the Church and Law Seminar. Christians have

always been bound by the Lord to operate within laws promulgated by human authorities, at least insofar as those laws do not contradict His own. As the social landscape changes in the United States, certain traditional challenges persist, some rather new challenges are intensifying, and disputes are increasingly being contested in the courts of law.

Consequently, it is perhaps more critical today than ever before that churches in America are mindful of the legal parameters in which they must operate and walk wisely both in their internal dealings and their interactions with the larger society. The Thomas Goode School of Law is pleased to offer this series of presentations in an effort to educate the church and enhance its work for the Lord in light of the current legal landscape.

WELCOME MESSAGE FROM THE DIRECTOR OF THE CLOVERDALE CENTER FOR YOUTH AND FAMILY MINISTRY

Billy Lambert is an outstanding gospel preacher and a Christian gentleman. Since September of 2006 he has preached five times a week by television on the “Getting to Know Your Bible” program. Telephone operators work each night handling an astounding number of Bible questions from all over the world, requests for information about churches of Christ, and requests for baptism. This is a powerful testimony to the power of the gospel as preached by Billy Lambert. He is an elder of the Summerdale, Alabama, church and was a very influential preacher there in her formative years.

Faulkner University is fortunate to have Billy Lambert serving as chair of her Board of Trustees. His strong, steady hand helps to insure that Faulkner will prosper and grow and remain true to the mission and values of her founders. From his earliest years as a preacher he has been effective in gospel meetings and is, therefore, to this day much used and sought after by

many congregations. He also conducts seminars and workshops on several topics, including church leadership and stewardship.

Billy was born in Columbia, Tennessee, on January 26, 1943, and was baptized in 1956. He began preaching in 1962 at Almeria, Alabama. His college education was at Alabama Christian College, which is now Faulkner University.

In 1963 Billy married Louise Daugherty, who has stood by his side and has been “the wind beneath his wings” for fifty-five years. She is queen of their home and was a dominant force in rearing three faithful children, a son and two daughters. Like the “excellent wife” of Proverbs 31,

she opens her mouth with wisdom, and the teaching of kindness is on her tongue. She looks well to the ways of her household and does not eat the bread of idleness. Her children rise up and call her blessed; her husband also, and he praises her: “Many women have done excellently, but you surpass them all.” Charm is deceitful, and beauty is vain, but a woman who fears the Lord is to be praised. Give her of the fruit of her hands, and let her works praise her in the gates. (Proverbs 31:26–31 ESV)

Congratulations, Louise and Billy Lambert! Faulkner University honors you. Faulkner University is itself honored by honoring you.
