2018 Fundraising Event Sheet 703 NW Green Oaks Boulevard Arlington, Texas 76006 817.860.6752 Fax 817.860.1595 www.riverlegacy.org 29th Annual Cardboard Boat Regatta April 21, 2018 Six Flags Hurricane Harbor Join the hundreds of courageous youth and adult crews who design and build boats entirely out of corrugated cardboard and then test their handiwork in a race in Hurricane Harbor’s Wave Pool. Sail or sink, this wildly popular event is fun for all ages - even those not brave enough to sail a cardboard vessel - attracting more than 2,000 spectators to cheer on the crews and to participate in event-day activities that also include Build-on-Site boats, a Mini-Boat Regatta, Hook’s Lagoon, Special rides determined by Hurricane Harbor, Whale Sail (for a chance to win GREAT prizes!), a Team Game area and Concessions. Over 150 boat entries range from school- age children who use Regatta as a hands-on math and science project, to companies, churches & organizations who participate for the camaraderie and team-building spirit. The Arlington Parks and Recreation Department helps provide volunteer support for Regatta, and Hurricane Harbor is a gracious host for the event. 9th Annual Clay Shoot May 18, 2018 Ellis County Sportsmans Club Join the fun, camaraderie and friendly competition of this annual Sporting Clay Shoot tournament that draws almost 200 shooters, including DFW-area business people, decision makers and outdoorsmen and women. Highlights include lunch, 100 rounds of sporting clays, provided ammo, awards ceremony, raffle, live auction and prizes. Scoring is Lewis Class, so pro through novice have an equal chance to win. Awards given for High Overall Shooters in different categories. 22nd Annual After Dark in the Park October 5, 6 & 7, 2018 River Legacy Park & River Legacy Living Science Center After Dark in the Park, one of our signature fundraising events, is a family-friendly fall festival geared for ages 2 to 10. The annual event highlights the education programs of River Legacy Living Science Center through a unique children’s craft and activities area. Other attractions include Pumpkin Patch, Karaoke, pro- fessional storytelling, bounce houses, hayride shuttle, REI camping corner and much more. Arlington and surrounding area families make this event their annual fall festival destination, with about 3,000 to 4,000 in attendance over the three-night event. The Arlington Parks and Recreation Department mans the hayride shuttle and helps provide volunteer support for After Dark in the Park. All proceeds from these events benefit River Legacy Foundation, a 501 (c) (3) organization. The Foundation provides funding for environmental education programs at River Legacy Living Science Center, a 12,000-square-foot nature center featuring exhibits, self-exploration stations, gift shop and environmental education classes and events. The Foundation, in partnership with the Arlington ISD and other surrounding districts, provides outdoor education experiences to students. The Foundation also partners with the City of Arlington Parks and Recreation Department to provide funding for the continued preservation and recreational amenities of River Legacy Park, a 1,300-acre oasis along the Trinity River in Arlington that boasts hike and bike trails, river overlooks, canoe launch, pavilions, and playgrounds. 7th Annual A Night With Nature November 9, 2018 River Legacy Living Science Center Experience the nightlife of River Legacy at this unique fun and casual fall gala featuring an evening of hors d’ ouevres, drinks, live music, night hikes, animal encounters and creative auctions for a fun, social affair. Fort Worth-Dallas area movers and shakers are invited to experience the environmental education programs of River Legacy Living Science Center in an adult and entertaining social atmosphere.

Great Backyard Bird Count Festival • February 17, 2018 Become citizen scientists for a day and join River Legacy as we count and celebrate birds during the global Great Backyard Bird Count hosted by Cornell Lab of Ornithology and The National Audubon Society. During this FREE festival, guests can participate in bird counts and a variety of games, crafts and activities all about celebrating birds and creating bird awareness.

Earth Day • April 14, 2018 Pledge to help “Heal the Earth” and discover fun and simple ways to do so during River Legacy Living Science Center’s Earth Day celebration. This FREE event is fun for the whole family and features nature hikes, story time with the Arlington Public Library, games, crafts and more. Families can come and have fun while learning how to recycle and repurpose together!

W.A.T.E.R. (Water Awareness Through Education & Recreation • September 8, 2018 Families can learn all about water awareness and conservation through family-fun activities, games and demonstrations during the W.A.T.E.R. (Water Awareness Through Education & Recreation) Festival at River Legacy Living Science Center. This FREE festival includes creek walks, story times, animal explorations and games and crafts.

River Legacy Living Science Center’s Community and Educational Festivals serve to educate and connect families to nature through engaging and fun activities and information that will inspire them to become a steward of their environment!

Scout Badge Day • December 1, 2018 Naturalists and community partners come together for a full day of activities and explorations designed to help Scouts complete all or some of the necessary requirements to achieve certain badges and journeys. All materials and supplies are provided except the badges. Great opportunity for Scouts and siblings. Cost is $15 per Scout/sibling.
