THE GIRL SCOUTGOLD AWARD

The Girl Scout Gold Award represents the highest achievement in Girl Scouting. This prestigious award is earned by a select group of Girl Scouts who demonstrate a higher commitment not only to improving their communities, but also advocating for lasting change. We are proud to honor 60 Gold Award Girl Scouts this year!

The road to the Gold Award begins with discovery. Each girl carefully evaluates a community’s needs, locally or globally. Using her values and skills, she chooses a community issue she is passionate about. Before proceeding, each girl submits a project proposal to the Gold Award Advisory Board. Members of the advisory board work with the girl to support the development of her project and act as a mentor through completion. While working on the project, each girl dedicates herself to advancing her cause and accomplishing her goal.

All of the projects completed this year will have a lasting andpositive impact on our region and beyond. From creating a STEM curriculum kit for a children’s hospital to inspiring first-time voters to use their voice, Girl Scouts have developed Take Action projects that symbolize outstanding accomplishments in the areas of leadership, improving their communities, career planning, and personal development.

Congratulations to all of our 60 Gold Award Girl Scouts!

Emma Cunningham

Following the example of Juliette Low, Emma created a program at her high school, Blue Springs South, called Bridging the Gap.

It helps connect 9th grade students at the Freshman Center

to clubs and activities at the high school building. She sought to address feelings of isolation

Freshman have expressed. Emma continues her altruism into college at William Woods

University where she is studying to become an American Sign

Language interpreter. We think Ms. Low would approve!

Take the lead in your wellness just like these Gold Award Girl Scouts have done with their projects. Small changes can ultimately shift your whole life. Being healthy and well takes more than being diligent in one area of wellness. It requires attentiveness to your whole person—body, mind and spirit.

Learn from Dr. Michelle Robin how small changes in daily practices can create big shifts in your whole health.
