Appendix ‘G’ … What does that mean? LEED v.4 [Minimum] Requirements

Option 1. Whole-building energy

simulation

Demonstrate an improvement of 5% for new

construction, in the proposed building

performance rating compared with the

baseline building performance rating.

Calculate the baseline building performance

according to ASHRAE 90.1–2010, Appendix G,

with errata (or a USGBC-approved equivalent

standard for projects outside the U.S.), using a

simulation model.

Option 2. Prescriptive compliance: ASHRAE

50% Advanced Energy Design Guide

Comply with mandatory and prescriptive provisions

of ASHRAE 90.1–2010, w/ errata.

Comply with the HVAC and service water heating

requirements, including equipment efficiency,

economizers, ventilation, and ducts and dampers, in

Chapter 4, Design Strategies and Recommendations

by Climate Zone, for ASHRAE 50% Advanced Energy

Design Guide:

ASHRAE 50% AEDG for Small to Medium Office

Buildings (< 100,000 ft2);

ASHRAE 50% AEDG for Medium to Large Box Retail

Buildings (> 20,000 to 100,000 ft2);

ASHRAE 50% AEDG for K–12 School Buildings; or

Dampers are a key component in

controlling air intake, exhaust & leakage.

Economizers employ dampers to

deliberately separate air streams of

different temperature.

When dampers do not close properly, or

contain gaps, they leak air instead of

separating it; the temperature

difference, and therefore the energy

benefit is degraded

Dampers and air economizers shall

be equipped with Class 1 AMCA

Performance Rated, “Ultra Low-
