2 A Word from Our Pastor

Dear FBCP Family, Easter is the apex of the Christian calendar. Everything about our faith rises and falls upon the reality of the resurrection. As we turn the calendar to April, we have the awesome privilege of once again proclaiming “Christ is Risen…He is Risen In-deed!” Let us remember the sacred account, “Then the disciples went back to their homes, but Mary stood outside the tomb cry-ing. As she wept, she bent over to look into the tomb and saw two angels in white, seated where Jesus’ body had been, one at the head and the other at the foot. They asked her, “Woman, why are you crying?” “They have taken my Lord away,” she said, “and I don’t know where they have put him.” At this, she turned around and saw Jesus standing there, but she did not realize that it was Jesus. “Woman,” he said, “why are you crying? Who is it you are looking for?” Think-ing he was the gardener, she said, “Sir, if you have carried him away, tell me where you have put him, and I will get him.” Jesus said to her, “Mary.” She turned toward him and cried out in Aramaic, “Rabboni!” (which means Teacher). Jesus said, “Do not hold on to me, for I have not yet returned to the Father. Go instead to my brothers and tell them, ‘I am returning to my Father and your Father, to my God and your God.’” Mary Magdalene went to the disciples with the news: “I have seen the LORD!” And she told them that he had said these things to her.” We are invited to “Come and See” and then “Go and Tell.” Because the tomb is empty and Jesus is alive, we must go tell the good news! Let us go across the street and around the world. Tell your friends, family, and complete strangers that Jesus died on the cross for sin, was placed in a borrowed tomb, and on the third day he got up! This news is so great we cannot keep it to ourselves! Let us go and tell anyone who will listen, “I have seen the LORD!” May God bless you this Easter season! I love you and I am looking forward to seeing you soon. Your Pastor and Friend,Daven

King of kings During Jesus’ earthly life, colored cloth was very expensive. Only royalty and wealthy people could afford it. When Jesus was arrested and sentenced to die, the soldiers set about humiliating him (see Mark 15:16-20, NRSV). They found a purple cloak — the color of royalty — and put it on him. Then they placed a crown of thorns on Jesus’ head. “Hail, King of the Jews!” They mockingly cried. The soldiers hit Jesus with a reed and spat on him. They taunted him and knelt down before him, pretending to honor him. Despite what he endured, our Lord did end up a King — King of kings and Lord of lords. —copied

3 Worship Ministry

I hope you were blessed by all that happened during the month of March in our Worship experi-ences!! Thank you for being such great hosts, as we welcomed many guests to First Baptist Church Pelham! The Alabama Children’s Honor Choir brought hundreds of visitors on March 4. I am espe-cially proud of Catalina Barnett, Witt Bell, Faith Berry, Nathan Gantt, Alexis King, Addison Morris, Madelyn Rasco, and Connor Wright, for representing our church so well in the Honor Choir. I also want to say a huge “THANK YOU,” to Mary Shaw, Jessica Wright, Matt Wright, Crystal Rasco, & Joanie Raney for either rehearsing the kids or serving as an Honor Choir chaperone!! You all did an outstanding job!

We ended the month with two outstanding worship experiences. It was so good to see my dear friend Jonathan Rodgers back at FBCP, as the Ladies of Lee ministered to our congregation on March 18. I know many of you enjoyed catching up with Jonathan and rejoice in how the Lord is using him at Lee University and in the local church. Finally, on March 21, The Sounds of Liberty were just phenom-enal. What a blessing to be led by such talented and anointed students. Thank you again for making many adjustments in your own schedule to welcome these groups to our church!

We now turn our attention to April!! The Wor-ship Ministry will be hosting a church-wide Night of Worship on April 29, at 5:00 p.m., as our final evening service together before the summer break. The Adult Choir & Children’s Choirs will be leading alongside special musi-cal guest Overflow. Overflow is made up of husband/wife team, Cliff and April Duren, along with vocalist, Heather Richardson. Cliff is currently the Worship Pastor at Station Hill

Church in Nashville and is a prolific choral writer and arranger. We sing many of Cliff’s arrangements here at FBCP! Cathy & I consider these three vocalists our good friends in the ministry and I’m excited to welcome them to FBCP! Mark your calendars now and plan to join us for this Worship experience!!!

Cathy and I love serving with you and as always, we look forward to seeing you in worship!

Blessings,Brett

Orleans. The ministry opportu-nities in that city are still in the hundreds. We can only do a few projects each year on our annual trip to the city. Over the years we have been able to see marvelous results from the things we have shared in so many places with a large number of people. It is exciting to see the spiritual light come on in the eyes of those whom we touch. We thank God for the opportunities that He has given to us. Now about April: Our

Now the weather is break-ing and we will resume our day trips soon. Thank you for your patience. We love you dearly, Brother Paul and Barbara

5Children’s Ministry Spring has sprung and at FBCP Kids that means summer is just around the corner. Before we get to sum-mer, we have several key activities taking place, starting with our 4th-6th grade Bible Drillers participating in 3 different drills in the month of April. Also, on Friday April 20th, FBCP Kids will be hosting a “Family Fun Night.” Keep your eye out for further details. With summer just around the corner, we are getting ready! VBS planning and recruiting is underway. We still have a couple of spots for volunteers, so let Carole know today if you want to help on June 11th-14th from 9:00-noon. Our Preschool and 1st-5th grade summer Wednesday night program “What About Wednesday” will start on May 16th, with lots of fun activities planned for both age groups. Look for Summer Forms, out on April 8th, and come join the fun!

to convey our feelings. Body language is a form of physical behavior that is used to express feelings or emotions. I believe that we are in a continuous state of trying to be better at who we are and what we do. In making changes we might decide to be less critical or negative toward someone or something. In our attempt at being less negative or criti-cal we may decide not to make comments about something that in the past has been an issue for us. While taming the tongue is a first step in the process, it isn’t the only step. If our physical behavior doesn’t change as well, then the message is still the same. For example, you might say you are not angry but if you withdraw and don’t speak, the message is sent out

There are many styles of communication. All of which come together to deliver and receive messages from others. We can observe the world around us and see that all living things communicate. We see forms of communica-tion in plants, animals and humans. Plant behavior lets us know when the plant is cold, hot, dry or thirsty and even signal the beginning of warmer weather or colder weather. Our pets communicate their needs as well, such as happiness, feeling ill, hunger and so forth. Humans have a higher form of communication in that they use spoken words to relay and understand one another in con-versation. While words say a lot, body language works hand in hand with the spoken word

whether you speak it or not. We see in the scripture that body language can expose a person’s intentions. Proverbs 16:30 & 32 speaks to that by pointing out that one who winks his eye is plotting perversity. We also see in this same scripture that patience is better because one who has self control is better than one who takes a city. Colossians chapter three discusses many aspects of body language we are to put away. So if you close your mouth to nega-tive communication, you must also contain your body language. Whatever you do in word or deed, do all in the name of the Lord Jesus; Colossians 3:17a. Linda Story
