Workshop on:

Advancing Roadside Safety

for Roads of Today and Tomorrow

July 8 – 11, 2018

Austin, Texas

The purpose of this workshop is to explore ways to strategically reduce the frequency and

severity of roadway departure crashes through development of relevant crash testing criteria

and improved guidance for the selection and use of roadside safety features based on

current data. Data needs and methods for evaluating the performance of safety hardware at

both the design stage and in the field will also be discussed. Small groups will meet to review

and consider the ideas presented, as well as develop problem statements for further research

to achieve meaningful advancements in the area of roadside safety.
