SCHOOL TIMES
It is great to see so many families make a big commitment to getting their children to school on time. This is great for your own children’s learning and minimizes disruption to classes.
GRADE 5/6 CAMP I had the pleasure of attending the Grade 5/6 camp at the Alexandra Adventure Resort. The facilities were fantastic with private toilet and shower facilities. The activities were extremely well run with the children eager to participate. All staff and students came home very tired and
well fed.

SCHOOL VALUES: Respect is the way we speak to each other and the way we do things together to show that we are important.
Dear Parents / Guardians.
GROUNDS Once again the school was busy over the school holidays. Synthetic grass was laid in the area in front of the outdoor assembly area. This will give the children another area to use and enjoy.
BUILDINGS We are continuing to install sound field systems to improve the learning in our open learning spaces. This will allow students to hear instructions clearly and also provide modern sound control.
A big benefit of this system is it will give impaired students and teachers better access to sound clarity.
STUDENT HEALTH
It is School Council policy that all children wear a broad brimmed hat during Term 4. This is to protect your child against the harmful effects of the sun rays. Please clearly label your children's hat as children will leave their hats
everywhere. BICYCLES AND SCOOTER A reminder that bicycles and scooters should not be ridden in the school grounds. This is to maintain the safety of everyone.
Also you should insist that your children wear an approved helmet while riding a bike or scooter.
Learning starts 9:00am sharp.

Thinking about the SIZE OF
THE PROBLEM
As mentioned in the last newsletter, we know that children need to learn how to handle problems. They
might be ill or hurt, be finding their school work hard, have challenges with friends, miss out on or lose
something or someone, etc. Part of handling problems well is learning to work out how big the problem is, and if they need adult help to
deal with it. For all of us, being able to ask for help is an important skill.
But sometimes children react to a small problem as though it is a really big one, and they have a ‘meltdown’, using behaviours that don’t match the size of the
problem. In this case, they need to learn how to calm down and think about the size of the problem, as well as how to solve it.
Here is the link to a funny example in case you didn’t see it in the last newsletter. https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=lTm_DQxWlqU
This clip makes children laugh, but also teaches the point well.
The 2018 National DAY FOR DANIEL The 2018 DAY FOR DANIEL will be held on FRIDAY OCTOBER 26th. Students are encouraged to wear red, and to bring a gold coin
donation. The theme of the day is to wear Red, Educate and Donate. Parents, carers and teachers are asked to start a conversation with chil-
dren about personal safety. Money raised on the day fund education programs, resource development and support.
We ask people to wear red on Day for Daniel in remembrance of Daniel Morcombe. Daniel was wearing a red t-shirt when he was abducted on 7 December 2003. He was last seen waiting for a bus. Wearing red links Daniel’s very real
story to the importance of safety education.
Conversations or education does not need to be scary or risk focused but will highlight topics such as recognising body clues that may tell us we are unsafe, understanding body ownership, naming private body parts and identifying adults who can help if a child feels
unsafe.
