CALENDAR

President’s Message

Presidents Letter

September starts by celebrating Labor Day, a

public holiday to honor the workers and laborers

of our great country. It’s a tribute to the Ameri-

can Labor Movement and the contributions

workers have made to the strength, prosperity,

laws, and well-being of our country. The unity

of people working together for the common good

has had amazing results.

Recently we celebrated with our religious sisters

the good works they perform everyday for our

communities and for the church. They are a

shining example of how commitment, hard work,

and faith have become a cornerstone of the

church, and throughout history part of our core

values. The sisters truly are a blessing and ap-

preciated as we continue praying for them.

Likewise, through commitment, hard work and

dedication the Serra Club was established and

has become a pathway of prayers for vocations.

We remember and honor all those who contrib-

uted their time and talents to make Serra a world-

wide organization dedicated to prayer and our

religious way of life.

This is a challenging time for the Catholic

Church and our prayers for seminarian’s, sisters,

priests, and all those in religious life worldwide

are needed now more than ever.

We pray for solutions, healing, leadership and

God’s grace for all Catholics and for our faith.

Our board of directors is undertaking an evalua-

tion of the overall status of our club. We will be

Priest Appreciation Day Volunteers Needed

Laura Forbes August 15, 2018

Good Afternoon-

I know that most of you might not know me, but I am on the CORE committee and

will be organizing the volunteers this year. I first of all want to thank everyone for

their past commitments to volunteering for this event. The event would not be pos-

sible without the support of all the volunteers.

This year we are doing the same schedule as we implemented last year (see be-

low). Below is also the volunteer tasks and schedule, similar to Homers from past

events. Please let me know if you are able to help out this year and what your top 2

-3 tasks you would like.

Serra Message from Jack Lawrence,

John Spaniol wants to share a minivan for the drive on the Seminary trip scheduled from October 9th to

October 11th.

If you are planning on traveling to the Seminary this is a great chance to lower expenses and enjoy the

companionship of your fellow Serrans.

This is a great chance to advocate vocations at this time of intense need. The more Serrans attending the

more the spiritual awareness may be raised in these young seminarians.

John can be reached at 913 - 383 – 1157 or his email is [email protected].

Again, if you can find the time to attend this event give John a call.

This event never fails to increase our spiritual awareness as well.

Thanks, brothers,

Jack Lawrence

asking our general membership to get involved by giving their input on various topics. We comprehen-

sive questionnaire has been created and will be included with your upcoming dues statement. A major

focus will be on membership. We would really like to have everyone’s input. On September 4, Carroll

Macke and I will participate in a nationwide membership conference call to get new ideas, present our

ideas, and become more aggressive in our membership efforts. There are many other topics of interest,

so the responses from our members are vital. Our objective is to simply strengthen our club and our

activities. There will be more on this subject at upcoming meetings.

We are asking people to attend our seminary visit to St. John Vianney on October 9-11 and hope you

can plan on attending. Information and a registration form can be found in this Newsletter or on the

website.

Also, the website has a great reference to our traveling crucifix. We are very appreciative of the origi-

nal crucifix donated by Jerry Fladung and the story behind it. Presently we are working with Ft. Storey

at Cure of Ars on a permanent home, at the request of Jerry’s family. The new, smaller crucifix is better

fit for traveling. Thanks to all those that take this home for daily devotions.

Please read the events calendar on the website as there are a couple of important events to keep in mind:

The C.O.R.E. golf outing for clergy on Sept. 17

Rosary for vocations on Sept.29 and Oct. 27

Seminary visit October 9-11

Priests Appreciation Sunday, Oct. 28

Have a blessed September, and may we continue our daily prayers for all the vocations and those in the

religious life, and especially for our church in this time of need.

God Bless,

Tom Spencer
