What is the Top Way to Bring New Members into Al-Anon?

∗ #1 way to bring new members into Al-Anon is to “Practice the Al-Anon Principles in All Our Affairs!∗ WSO Member Surveys 2006,

2009, 2012, 2015, and our 2017 Assembly GRs all said

~ 60% of newcomers join Al-Anon from the recommendation of Friends, Family or Co-Workers.

What are the Best Ways to Reach-out To Our Counselors and Therapists?

How do we reach out to them?We Need to Find Them! Their addresses are @ Colorado Department of Regulatory Agencies (DORA) Then What? 1) We contact them and visit the interested ones. 2) We explain what Al-Anon is and is not, remind them Al-Anon and Therapy is Complementary, and providing copies of AFA & CAL literature to them.

~30% of newcomers come to Al-Anon because of recommendations from Counselors or /Therapists.

  • 1. We will work with closely with all the DRs and the District Outreach Coordinators to offer experience, strength, and support.

    2. We will ask the DRs and District Outreach People to introduce the Project to their district’s Groups. We would love to have our Groups “adopt” those professionals that are interested.

    3. The effort could take 2-12 months to complete, depends on how many people each “willing” group will need to contact.

    4. We will provide links to an Editable Spreadsheet that will include the Professionals, Name and mailing address, the professional’s interest in learning more, what group has contacted them, and when was the last contact, groups will add to the data base the willing professional’s phone # and email addresses. And invite them to attend an Open Meeting.

    5. We will provide a Google Map showing where each Group is and show where all the professionals are located that are close to them.

Paid Broadcasted WSO PSA played on KOSI 101.3

  • 07/14/182018 Summer Assembly 18

∗ Broadcasting Stations license public airway frequencies, in exchange for that, they agree to be of Service to the Public. One way to show that service is to broadcast PSAs.∗ The FCC no longer expects stations to do PSA’s, they do it at their own

discretion. ∗ The “Internet” has put new financial pressures on Broadcasters and it is

expensive for them to compete.∗ Jake O. asked stations why they would not broadcast our PSAs for

free∗ They already filled the limited PSA times with medical health and

government PSAs∗ That is why our Al-Anon PSA’s are rarely broadcast for free today.

Why are so Few Public Service Announcements being Broadcast?

  • 07/14/182018 Summer Assembly 19

    Paid Broadcast WSO PSA Campaigns

1st Campaign:• KOSI 101.1 was selected to target females 30-65 years old. • A total of 53 prime time PSAs were played over two weeks, to 284400 people!• The cost was $2040. Funding was provided by Districts, Groups, and Members.• In only two weeks in January, more Al-Anon WSO PSA’s were broadcast in CO

than in the past 12 years!

New 2nd Campaign:• September is Recovery Month• This is a more expensive time of the year, estimate

they will need about $4,000.• They have currently raised $1,870 to date! • We have a radio professional member now helping.• We want to do a different Station! • WHAT STATION DO YOU THINK THEY SHOULD TRY?• Please Keep the Donations Coming In!
