Seeing the Unseen God

There are things about God that we just cannot wrap our finite minds around, and that is where our faith is applied and prevails. “No man has seen God at any time; the only begotten God, who is in the bosom of the Father, He has explained Him.” (John 1:18 NASB). One of the fundamental attributes we know about God is that He is omnipresent. In the midst of all creation, God is present everywhere simultaneously. occasions through history. Just one instance we can see is in Genesis, chapter 18, when He, along with two angels, appeared in the physical form of men to Abraham. The passage we began with from John solves for us any contradiction that may come from these thoughts by revealing that when God does manifest Himself in a visible form to man, He presents Himself in the person of His only begotten Son, Jesus. Paul further resolves and explains, this concept for us, “For He (Jesus) is the image of the invisible God, the first-born of all creation.” (Col. 1:15 NASB). In an incomprehensible way for us as humans to grasp, the omnipresent, boundless God has taken on the appearance of a human to communicate a special message or bring about a divine purpose. These special manifestations are known by the name “theophanies.” And when we find one taking place in Scripture, each has been carried out by the Son of God, Jesus, before His incarnation upon the earth. How is it that we can see an invisible God now? We live on the other side of the incarnation of Jesus Christ as the Son of man that walked the earth, manifested to us to show us the way to eternal life and then ascended back to Heaven. Well, we now have the

testimony of the Word of God to open our eyes to see Him. “And He (Jesus) is the radiance of His (God’s) glory and the exact representation of His nature…” (Heb. 1:3 NASB). We have faith in our Lord and Savior Jesus Christ, and He declares to us vital truth that we can stand confidently in, “And he who beholds Me beholds the One who sent Me.” (John 12:45 NASB), and, “… He who has seen Me has seen the Father…” (John 14:9 NASB). It is possible to see the unseen… all done by the power of God. In His service, Doug
