● PHYSICAL GEOGRAPHY!!!!!
LANDFORMS Heavily-forested, the rugged Ore Mountains dominate the central regions of
Slovakia, while the Carpathian Mountains cover its northern borders with the
Czech Republic and Poland. The tallest peaks are in the Tatra Mountains. The
highest point is Gerlach Peak, rising to 8,743 ft. (2,665m)
The mountains slope into the fertile lowlands of the Danube River plain as well as
to its southeastern border with the Ukraine.
WATERSlovakia is very rich in natural lakes, reservoirs and rivers. Reservoirs were built in order to store water to prevent flooding or to generate electricity. In the meantime, dams are also used for recreation purposes – offering water sport opportunities and accommodation facilities.

CLIMATE
Generally, the climate is relatively continental with almost no extremes below minimal -20°C (-4°F) or above maximal +37°C (+99°F). Bratislava and Southern Slovakia is the warmest region. In summer, the temperatures may rise up to +30°C in summer, on some sunny and hot days even up to 35-37°C(35 degrees celsius is equal to 95 degrees fahrenheit)
ANIMALS
Wildlife is abundant and diverse; Tatry (High Tatras) National Park shelters an exceptional collection of wild animals, including bears, wolves, lynx, wildcats, marmots, otters, martens, and minks. Hunting is prohibited in the parks, and some animals, such as the chamois, are protected nationwide.

History Present-day Slovakia was settled by Slavic Slovaks about the 6th century. They were politically united in the Moravian empire in the 9th century. In 907, the Germans and the Magyars conquered the Moravian state, and the Slovaks fell under Hungarian control from the 10th century up until 1918.
The culture of Slovakia is the result of various folk traditions and because of its position in the
Central Europe, it is also influenced by Austrian, German, Polish, and Hungarian
cultures.
