Student Fundraising
The Sheldon Band Boosters is a non-profit organization open to
everyone with an interest in supporting all band students in Sheldon
ISD. Meetings are held monthly at the King High School Band Hall on
the second Tuesday of each month. It takes a great deal of parent
support to maintain a program of this size. Volunteers to be
chaperones, officers, committee members, and workers are always
needed. Your help and participation is greatly appreciated.
The Boosters provide important funds for senior scholarships, banquets,
student social events, equipment, private lesson financial aid, and other
special student needs. These funds are earned through the operation of
parental volunteer efforts and student-centered fundraising projects.
Band Boosters
Fundraising projects will be scheduled periodically
in order to raise funds for the support of the band
program. The band will conduct two fundraisers
each year, with the Band Boosters conducting all
other fundraising projects. All money collected
will be used to meet the needs of the band
program.
Boosters & Fundraising Page 3
Communication Communication is vital to our team. Any
conflict or absence from a band activity
MUST be communicated to the directors
in advance. Remind is the preferred
method to communicate.
The director has final say on if
communication is acceptable.
No call/no show is never acceptable!
Excused Absence
An excused absence happens whenever a Band member is not present at a Band
Activity due to illness or injury, major family event or emergency, or important
unavoidable conflict, to be determined by the director. Directors have final say on if an
absence is excused.
All absences, whether excused or not, must be made up. Each hour of instruction missed
must be made-up with a director, drum major, or sectional leader, as determined by the
director.
A parent/guardian email/phone call explaining the reason for your absence is due before
any absence or upon your return the absence is unexpected or an emergency.
Rehearsals Consistent attendance at rehearsals is necessary in building a
foundation for excellence. Excused and unexcused absences
parallel the C.E. King High School attendance policy.
Students will be responsible for any missed information and
for make-up time necessary to learn the material missed.
Students who cannot demonstrate proper performance due to
excessive absences will not be able to keep their performance
privilege.
*If you are well enough to attend school, you are well
enough to attend and participate in all band activities.*
Doctor & Dentist Appointments We understand the difficulty in scheduling these appointments, please make every effort to schedule around band rehearsals. We cannot excuse missed rehearsals due to doctor’s appointments during October or April due to upcoming competitions.
Attendance Page 4
Dental Work – Please avoid major dental work during the months of September/October and March/April. Big changes like adding or removing braces, brackets, etc. can put the child in a position where he/she can’t be successful.
This is the privilege to perform with the KHS Band.
The director and staff will take into account all information before performance
privileges are lost to any member. Excessive excused or unexcused absences, discipline
problems, and poor performance can all cause the loss of performance privilege. Any
unexcused absence can result in the temporary loss of performance privilege for the
student. The director and staff reserve the right to select the event for loss, and what
capacity you serve in the Band when not performing. Repeated loss of performance
privilege is grounds for dismissal from the band program. No call/no show is never
acceptable and can result in loss of performance privilege.
*Students who do not attend summer camp or have excessive absences from camp
rehearsals will immediately lose performance privilege and be subject to removal from
band.*
Performance Privilege
It is extremely important to the success of the entire band that every member
participates in every performance . An absence by any individual hurts the entire
group. As a result, we must be very strict with these performance and attendance
guidelines. An unexcused absence from a performance will result in a ZERO being
recorded for a performance grade, and may cause a student to lose their performance
privilege or to be removed from band at the discretion of the directors.
Excused absences will only be granted for illness/injury with medical documentation or
emergency situations with parent/guardian communication. The directors have final say
on whether an absence is excused or unexcused.
All clinician rehearsals are considered performances!

All students must be current with fees or their payment plan to maintain their performance privilege.
All members will follow this handbook and the CE King HS Student Code of Conduct

tolerated. Students are to remain in designated areas during all scheduled band
activities. Members are expected to be positive representatives of the band at all
times, both on and off campus. Any members who have issues with law
enforcement, including but not limited to arrest or detainment, or have issues with
community members that are not in keeping with the expectation of the KHS Band
will be subject to disciplinary action.

alcohol/drugs/tobacco, or any of the discipline items listed above. • Students or parents who remove themselves voluntarily from the program after the
first two weeks of the semester for any reason must understand that no alternative assignments are available. Students will still be assessed on their participation and performance at all band events.
Program Removal
