Welcome and congratulations on being accepted to Sault College! We are in the business of transforming lives and nothing speaks more to that than the campus redevelopment initiatives we have undertaken over the last several years. In countless ways, Sault College is transforming into the premier post-secondary institution of the North and you have helped with this in so many ways. Whether you are new to the College or returning to continue your studies, it is my hope that your experience with us will provide you with a lifetime of fond memories and new friendships in addition to a quality educational experience. Your success is our success and I urge you to familiarize yourself with the services and activities available to you at the College. Our Student Services, campus life and Athletics areas are here to help you find a comfortable balance between learning and lifestyle. I encourage you to ask if there is anything you need or have questions about. Your feedback is always important to us. I invite you to talk to our faculty, staff and to me, and let us know what we can do to make your experience one that you will always remember. It is my sincere hope your life will be enriched by your experience here at Sault College. I wish you all the success both academically and personally. EMERGENCY INFORMATION

College Closures The closure of the College means that the College will not be open to staff or students for classes or services. Only controlled entry and/or exit from/to the College will be allowed by using the new M- Wing entrance (Essar Hall). By 7:00 a.m., a message developed by the College’s Human Resources and Communication Department for students and staff will be broadcasted over radio newscast and will be posted on the College’s website homepage (www.saultcollege.ca). A recorded message will also be programmed on the College’s main phone line by 7:00 a.m. with the status of classes and services. Infonet screens, faculty, staff, radio stations and the College’s main phone line and website will let you know of early closures and/or cancellation of late/evening classes.

Fire Safety Drills Fire drills are done twice a year. All those in the building during the drills must participate and comply with the Emergency Evacuation Orders for everyone’s safety. Failure to respond to an alarm by leaving the building will result in corrective measures and refusal to evacuate may lead to disciplinary action.

What You Should Do When the Fire Alarm Sounds If the fire alarm system sounds intermittently, this is known as a fire alert. You can carry on with normal activities, but be prepared to vacate the building. If the fire alarm sounds continuously, quickly walk the most direct route to the nearest exit and leave the building. Do not use the elevators as you could be trapped if the power fails or is switched off. Stay away from entrances to the College outside so you do not interfere with the Fire Department. Do not go back into the building until authorized by the College staff who will be acting under the direction of the Senior Fire Officer at the scene. When an alarm sounds, do not assume that it is a false alarm. Leave the building at once. Staff and faculty members are to refer to the specific instructions for their work situation.

Self-Identification Students are encouraged to self-identify to Accessibility Services as early in the admission process as possible, in order to plan accommodations that will equalize opportunities to participate in all learning and evaluation activities within Sault College. Once self-identification occurs for students without documentation available, the Counsellor and student will develop an interim accommodation plan and determine whether additional documentation of the disability can be secured by the student from a registered health practitioner. If the student has documentation of a permanent disability and chooses to provide the Counsellor a copy, the accommodation plan will be developed based on the functional restrictions and limitations as a result of the disability.
