II. Elements of Art Allow us to teach your students about the 8 Elements of art here at the MMA! Prior to you tour we will go over what each element is in the auditorium with a splashy PowerPoint with student participation. After the brief learning exercise, the docents will take the students upstairs to apply what they learned to art in the galleries! IV. Hackley Readers Join us for this two part language arts adventure! The Hackley Readers tour is done in partnership with the Hackley Public Library and allows your students to experience creative story times at both historic buildings! Experience breakdown: • Classroom A - welcome at MMA • Classroom B - welcome at HPL • Classroom A -brief tour and story time in the MMA

galleries • Classroom B - creative story time at HPL • Departure of first venue / Switch to second venue Note: This experience, previously known as New Reader Round Up, functions best for lower elementary and in conjunction with the MMA’s illustrator focused exhibitions. This year the MMA’s illustrator show, 20 for 2020: Celebrating Michigan Artists, will run from January 16 to May 10th.

The competition, which melds together our visual art and the literary art of local poets, provides us with an array of poems that compliments our permanent collection. Bring your students to experience the two art forms here at the MMA! This experience also features an optional haiku writing activity in the classroom for middle and high school students. Experience breakdown: • Introduction / Welcome to the MMA • Tour of artworks with accompanying poetry from

previous competitions • Optional classroom activity: haiku writing

VI. Art from Everywhere One of our favorite things to show students is that art can come from everywhere and look like almost anything! Bring your students to enjoy the diversity of our galleries with an MMA docent. Experience breakdown: • Introduction / Welcome to the MMA • Tour of the MMA galleries with a focus on

place, individual, and various mediums. • Departure

VII. Portraiture Allow us to teach your students about the types of portraiture found throughout art history and explore examples in our galleries! We’ll touch on themes of tradition, personification, and the age of the selfie! This experience also features an optional self portrait activity in the classroom available for 4th through 8th grade. VIII. How to Look Based on the Lincoln Center’s model for Aesthetic Education, we will teach your students how to effectively LOOK, ANALYZE, and INTERPRET works of art in the galleries! This experience is inquiry based and designed to teach students how to be successful and confident museum goers! Experience breakdown: • Introduction / Welcome to the MMA • “Museum Extraordinaire!” interactive presentation • LOOK, ANALYZE, and INTERPRET with an MMA

IX. Mouse Paint

Red mouse, blue mouse, and yellow mouse too! Bring your K-1st grade students in to learn about their primary and secondary colors here at the MMA. This experience features a story, a brief look at the galleries, and a finger painting activity! Experience breakdown: • Welcome to the MMA • Divide into two groups • Group One, station A: story time and

gallery visit with a MMA docent • Group Two, station B: Finger Painting
