Purpose of Meeting

Federal guidelines require Title I schools to hold an Annual Parent Meeting to explain and discuss the Title I Schoolwide

program and requirements. Shenandoah Middle School is a Title I School.

The Every Student Succeeds Act (ESSA) Title I Parent and Family Engagement Requirements

• The School District and all Title I schools must allocate atleast one percent (1%) of their Title I budget towardsprograms, activities, and procedures for parent and familyengagement.

• The School District and all Title I schools must develop with,and distribute to, parents and family members, a writtenTitle I Parent and Family Engagement Plan (PFEP).

• All Title I schools are required to collaborate with parentsand families in the development of the School ImprovementProcess (SIP) and School-Parent Compact.

A portion of Title I Schoolwide Funds are used to fulfill the parent andfamily engagement requirements in the ESSA law and providesupplemental materials and resources.

Title I District-level PFEP

• The District-level PFEP is a blueprint of how the District and Title Ischools will work together with parents and family members toestablish expectations for family engagement and strengthenstudent academic achievement.

• The District-level PFEP describes how the District will:– provide the coordination, technical assistance, and other

support actions to assist schools in planning and implementingeffective parent and family engagement activities.

– conduct, with meaningful involvement of parents and familymembers, an annual evaluation of the content and effectivenessof the parent and family engagement policy towards improvingthe academic quality of all schools served under Title I, Part A.

Our Title I School-level PFEP

Describes how the school will:

• Convene an annual meeting to inform parents and familymembers of their rights to be involved in the Title I program;

Join the PTSA, EESAC, DAC and PAC committees, Volunteerat the School, attend some of the Parent Training sessionsoffered here at the school

• Offer meetings at flexible times to maximize participation;

• Provide parents and family members with timely information aboutTitle I programs; through Flyers, Electronic CommunicationMethods, Personalized phone calls, Marquee Display

Describes how the school will:

• Involve parents, in an organized, ongoing, and timely manner, inthe planning, reviewing, and improvement of programs, includingthe planning, reviewing, and improvement of the Title I School-level PFEP, the School-Parent Compact, and the jointdevelopment of the schoolwide program plan (SchoolImprovement Plan [SIP]);

Our school uses data to align the curriculum to State and District

academic standards.

Our instructional practices are adjusted based on the findings of the assessment data.

• Each Title I school must have a School-Parent Compact thatis developed jointly by parents and school personnel.

• The compact sets out the responsibilities of the students,parents, and school staff in striving to raise studentachievement.

• These are being distributed during the Homeroom portion ofthe Open House event later this evening.

• Our school offers workshops, trainings, and parent/teacherconferences at flexible meeting times mornings on Wednesdaysand Thursdays or by appointment and a Parent ResourceCenter/Area; next to the main office.

• School and parent partnerships are built within advisory councilssuch as the Educational Excellence School Advisory Council,District Advisory Council (DAC) and Parent Advisory Council (PAC);

• Title I DAC and Region (PAC) members are representatives ofparents who consult with the District Title I DAC about the planningand implementation of the Title I Schoolwide Program; and

Parent’s’ Right to Know

• Parents have the right to request and receive timely informationregarding the professional qualifications of their child’s teachers andparaprofessionals.

• Parents must be notified if their child is assigned to, or taught, forfour (4) or more consecutive weeks by a teacher who does not meetstate certification requirements for the grade level or subject areataught.

• Parents should be provided information regarding the level ofachievement of their child on State required academicassessments.

• To the extent that it is feasible, information must be in a languagethat parents can understand.

• The results of this survey will be utilized to help in thedevelopment of the Title I School-level Parent and FamilyEngagement Plan (PFEP), and future parent and familyengagement activities, events, and workshops.
