Bylaws Committee
The Bylaws Committee is responsible for reviewing proposed changes to the Society bylaws and reporting its recommendations to the Board of Directors. It monitors the contemporary suitability of the Bylaws and recommends revisions when appropriate. The Committee drafts language to achieve proposed Bylaws changes.

Bylaws CommitteeProposed Bylaws Change:2.17 Emeritus Members. Any Active Member or Affiliate Member who has reached the age of 65, has been a member for 10 years and is no longer engaged in active medical practice may request a transfer to Emeritus Membership. Members under the age of 65 and not practicing for health reasons may apply for special consideration in transferring to Emeritus Membership. Such requests shall be in writing to the Secretary of the Society, who will review and approve the requests. Emeritus Members are not eligible to vote, hold office or serve on the Board of Directors.

Active Members, six (6) of whom shall not be Directors. The seventhCommittee Member shall be the Senior Past President of the Board, who shall act as Chair of the Committee. The eighth Committee Member shall be the immediate past President …Six (6) or more members shall be nominated from the floor at the business session at the Annual Meeting to serve as one of the six (6) elected members of the Nominating Committee.
• 5.32 Method of Selection and Tenure. ……Members shall vote for up to six (6) individuals to serve on the Nominating Committee. The six (6) individuals receiving the greatest number of votes will be elected to serve on the Committee……

Bylaws Committee5.50 Medical Publishing Board of Trustees5.52 Board Composition. The Medical Publishing Board of Trustees is composed of a Chair of Medical Publishing, the Executive Editor, the Editor-in-Chiefs of all three AOSSM journals [AJSM, OJSMand Sports Health], a Treasurer of Medical Publishing, three members-at-large, the Society President and the two immediate Past Presidents of the Society. All members of the Medical Publishing Board of Trustees must be Active Members of the Society.

Co-chaired by James Kinderknecht MD, and James E. Voos, MD, AOSSM hosted one the Society’s most successful sports specific courses ever with 258 attendees. Allen Sills, MD, the NFL’s Chief Medical Officer was the keynote speaker.

• Resident membership is open to all ACGME-accredited residents. Following residency, one can upgrade to Candidate membership provided they are in an ACGME-accredited sports medicine fellowship program.
• Candidate membership is open to all ACGME-accredited sports medicine fellows in the year of their fellowship or one year following fellowship. This is a sponsored category, and fellows should take advantage of this.
• The membership application process is open year-round. • Prorated dues and an application fee will be charged for Active, Affiliate, and
International membership at the time the application is submitted.
