Dear Friends of the SPCA Cincinnati,

2019 was a very successful year for our shelter, our pets, and the families which we servein our region. Our accomplishments were made possible by the love and care of ourSupporters, Donors, Sponsors, Volunteers, Trustees, and Staff. Without their dedication andsupport, we would not be able to effectively accomplish all that we were able to do in 2019.

The SPCA Cincinnati made some tough decisions in 2019. Our Board of Trustees voted unanimously to not accept the 2020Hamilton County Dog Warden Contract. We began and completed the Joanie Bernard Foundation Cat Center in Sharonville. We started the construction of an expansion of our dog kennels at the Sharonville location. We upgraded and refurbished thefacilities at Colerain. We began the process to add restrooms and upgrade facilities at the Simmonds Farm in preparation foradditional Summer Camps.

In addition to all these changes, we did not change our core goals… We placed 100% of adoptable pets into forever homes.We maintained our net-zero sterilization goal - no waiting for spay/neuter surgeries. We increased our overall live release rate toover 91%. We decreased our average “Length of Stay” to an average of 6 days. 100% of our dogs received a rabies vaccination andwe are still a flea and tick free facility. We continued to transport dogs and cats to other communities which need pets. Ourpartnerships grew in 2019. The Pet Coalition of Greater Cincinnati was able to focus on Lower Price Hill for free vaccinations,education, training, veterinary care, and pharmaceuticals. The improvement in quality of care and reduction in infractions has proventhat our methods are successful. More importantly, our processes and activities are able to be replicated to help other communities.

A Message from the President & CEO

Dear Friends of the SPCA Cincinnati,

Thank you to our generous Donors, Volunteers, Staff, and Community Supporters who allow us toprovide outstanding services that have a tremendous impact on animal welfare in Southwest Ohio.

As you read this annual report, I encourage you to reflect on the many diverse ways the SPCA Cincinnati strengthens the relationship between pets and people in our Community. As an“Open Admissions” facility, we are literally the last chance for many pets. To make the process more effective and efficient, weincorporated “Managed Intake” to allow our team the needed time to problem solve or to fully help the family and their pets.

SPCA Cincinnati has served as the contracted provider of the Dog Warden services for Hamilton County since 1964. Inrecent years, our mission as a humane society began to move in a different direction and the duties of the Dog Warden werenot always in alignment this mission. We began to work cooperatively with the Hamilton County Commissioners to transitionthese duties to another entity. We are pleased that, effective July 31, 2020, this transfer will take place and SPCA Cincinnatiwill become exclusively a humane society.

The continued support from the Cincinnati Community is essential to our mission. On behalf of the Board of Trustees, I want to thank and congratulate our dedicated and committed Staff and Volunteers.

• 11,626 animals entered our facilities

• Nearly 1,000 at-risk kittens received specialized care by staff, volunteers, and fosters • Our Dog Warden and Deputy Dog Wardens responded to 5,413 stray animal calls

• 1,854 animals were transferred to other facilities through partnerships with other rescue and animal welfare agencies

• Our Animal Control staff assisted1,081 injured wild animals

• Nearly 7,000 children and adults were reached through Humane Education programs
