Ross Jones joined the St.Johns River State College coach-ing staff as the head baseballcoach on June 10, 2008 and as-sumedthepositionofathleticdi-rectoronJune1,2009.AftertenseasonsatSJRState,Joneshasanoverall record of 342-184 (.650)andaMid-FloridaConferencere-cordof154-82 (.653). These tenseasons have been among theprogram’s most successful in its59-yearhistoryandincludethreeconsecutive Mid-Florida Confer-enceChampionshipsandsixtripsto the FCSAA State/ NJCAA Re-gion8Tournament.

DuringJones’firstseasonatthehelm,heledtheVikingstoa33-17 record and a fourth placefinish in theMid-Florida Confer-ence. In 2010, the Vikings re-turnedtotheFCSAAState/NJCAARegion8Tournamentforthefirsttime since 1989 after finishingsecond in the Mid-Florida Con-ference.In2013,theVikingswontheirfirstMid-FloridaConferenceChampionship since 1977, fol-lowed by a second consecutiveMid-Florida Conference Cham-pionship in 2014with anoverallrecord of 37-14 and a 20-4 con-ferencerecord. 2015 was a special season!The Vikings enjoyed the bestseason in school history, finish-ing 47- 10 overall 19-4 in theMid-Florida Conference. The 47winssmashedthe formerschoolrecord of 38 wins in a season.The Vikings captured their thirdstraight Mid-Florida ConferenceChampionship andfinished thirdat the FCSAA/NJCAA Region 8Tournament. On March 18, theVikingsalsoclimbedtothetopoftheNJCAANationalBaseballPoll,ranking#1inthecountryforthefirsttimeinschoolhistory. 2016wasanotheroutstand-ingseasonas theVikingspostedanoverallrecordof42-14.IntheMid-Florida Conference, the Vi-kingsposteda16-7recordtofin-ish in second place. The Vikingsalsomade their fourth consecu-tivetriptotheNJCAARegion8/FCSAA State Tournament, finish-

ing 5th in the 10 team field. In2017,theVikingsposteda37-18overall recordanda19-5 recordin the Mid-Florida Conference.Their19-5recordintheMFCtiedforthebestrecordinconferenceplay. Jones began his coach-ing career as an assistant toDusty Rhodes at the UniversityofNorthFlorida,wherehespenta total of three seasons in twoseparate stints (1993 and 2000-2001). He spent six seasons asan assistant coach at VanderbiltUniversity (1994-1999), servingas the pitching coach and re-cruiting coordinator. Jones alsospentsixseasonsasthepitchingcoachand recruitingcoordinatorattheUniversityofFloridaunderHeadCoachPatMcMahon.As arecruitingcoordinatoratVander-biltandFlorida,Joneshelpedsignsomeof themost talentedplay-ers,notonlyinFlorida,butacrossthenation.Sevenofhisrecruitingclasseswererankedinthetop25nationally, with three in the top10.His2003and2005recruitingclasses at theUniversity of Flor-ida were both ranked numberthree in thenationbyCollegiate Baseball Mag azine. As a pitching coach, Joneshastutored66pitcherswhohavegoneontosignprofessionalcon-tracts,includingClintonJohnston,the Pittsburgh Pirates’ numberonedraftpickin1998.Also,nineof Jones’ pitchers have receivedAll-American honors, including

Todd Ewasko, theNCAADivision2National Pitcherof theYear in2001, and Justin Hoyman, theSoutheasternConferencePitcherof theYear in2004.While JoneswascoachingattheUniversityofNorth Florida in 2000 and 2001,the Ospreys won consecutivePeach Belt Conference crownsand appeared in back-to-backNCAA Division 2 College WorldSeries. UNF finished third in thenation both years. Jones alsoplayedamajorroleintheUniver-sity of Florida’s 2005 Southeast-ern Conference championshipand the Gators’ postseason runto the NCAA Division 1 CollegeWorld Series, where the GatorsplayedintheNationalChampion-shipSeriesagainsttheUniversityofTexas. Jones is a 1984 graduate ofPalatkaHigh School andwas se-lected by the Texas Rangers inthe 1984Major League Baseballamateur draft. He spent sevenseasons pitching for the TexasRangersandMontrealExposmi-norleaguesystems.Afterretiringfromprofessionalbaseball,JonesearnedhisA.A. degree fromSJRState in 1991 and his bachelor’sdegreeineducationfromtheUni-versity of North Florida in 1993.Jones is an avid outdoorsmanandenjoyshuntingandfishinginhissparetime.Rossandhiswife,Tish, have two sons, Tyler andHunter,andtwodaughters,TaylorandTessa.

Tindall Field is a tribute toCoach John Tindall for his 34years of service and dedicationto St. Johns River State College.Hisdevotionandcommitmenttoacademicandathleticexcellenceearnedhimtherespectandadmi-rationofhisplayers,fellowcoach-esandthecommunity. Coach Tindall served asthe head baseball coach for 30years and amassed 493 victo-ries, six Mid-Florida ConferenceChampionships and nine FCCAA

State Tournament appearances.He is a member of the FCCAAHall of Fame and a recipient ofthe FCCAA Baseball Coaches

AchievementAward. CoachTindallwillforeverberememberedforhisabilitytomo-tivateandencourageyoungpeo-

pletostriveforsuccessonandoffthefield.

After graduating from theUniversity of North Florida in1974, John Theobold taught sci-enceandcoachedfootball,base-

ball and track at Orange ParkHigh School until 1976, whenhe returned to Putnam Countyand taught math for 13 years,alsocoachingfootballforsixandbaseballfortwoofthoseyears. In 1989, Theobold becamethe assistant principal for Inter-lachenHighSchool,apositionheheldforeightyearsbeforetrans-ferring to W.H. Beasley MiddleSchool,whereheservedasprin-cipal until the year 2000. Theo-bold served as the director ofhumanresourcesforthePutnamCountySchoolDistrictfrom2000

-2006,andwastheareadirectorand chief negotiator from 2004-2009.Hethenbecameanareadirectorandprincipalduring theyears2006-2009. After retiring from the Put-namCounty School Districtwithatotalof35yearsinpublicedu-cation, Theobold began assistingAthleticDirectorandHeadCoachRossJonesatSJRStateCollegein2009.Heservesasamemberofthe Putnam County RecreationBoard, the SJR State FoundationBoard, the SJR StateAthleticAs-sociation Board, and has served

on the United Way Board ofDirectors and the Florida Edu-cational Negotiators Board. Hereceivedhisbachelor’sandmas-ter’sdegreesfromtheUniversityofNorthFlorida.Heplayedfoot-ballattheUniversityofRichmondfrom1970-1971andbaseballatSJRStatefrom1971-1972. Theoboldenjoysfishingandgolf in his spare time. He andhis wife, Sally, have two chil-dren,JenniferandJoe,andthreegrandchildren, Aila, Lachlan andNaomi.

J.D. Douglas has been thehead athletic trainer at St. JohnsRiverStateCollegesinceDecember,2010.Heisthefirstfull-timeathlet-ic trainer inschoolhistory.DouglasservedforsixyearsintheU.S.NavyasaHospitalCorpsman.Aftermili-taryservice,hereceivedadegreeinathletictrainingattheUniversityofNorth Florida. Douglas hasworkedas an athletic trainer at the HighIntensity Training Center of Jack-sonville,PaxonSchoolforAdvancedStudiesinJacksonville,andtheUni-versityofNorthFlorida. Douglas is nationally certifiedin athletic trainingby theBoardofCertification and is licensed by theState of Florida’s Department ofHealth.He isamemberof theNa-tional Athletic Trainer’s Associationand the Jacksonville Sports Medi-cineProject. He has been married to hiswife Jennifer since2001andhas asonnamedJack.

Joe Pound enters his secondseason as an assistant coach withthe Vikings. Poundwillworkwiththe infielders and hitters and assistwithrecruitingefforts. Pound is the Area Director ofScouting&RecruitinginNorthFlor-ida for National Scouting Report(NSR). Over the past three years,he has assisted hundreds of highschool athletes in the college re-cruitingprocess. InadditiontohisrolewithNSR, Pound has coachedtravel baseball for nine years andcurrentlyservesas theheadcoachand recruiting coordinator for theLADodgersscoutteam. Poundwas selectedasanAll-StateinfielderforfourstraightyearsatCrescentCityHighSchool,wherehestillholdsmanyoffenserecordsincluding most career home runs.He continued his playing careerat the University of North Florida,whereheearnedhisbachelor’sde-greeinHealth.Heplayedfouryearsunder ABCA Hall of Fame coachDusty Rhodes and was selectedAll-Sunshine State Conference in1997.

Cory Elasik enters his fourthyear as an assistant coach for theVikings.Elasikservesasthehittingandthirdbasecoach,therecruitingcoordinator, and works with theoutfieldersandcatchers.InhisfirstseasonastheVikings’hittingcoach,theprogrambatted.319asateam,collected419runswhiledriving in373RBIs,andbelted58homerunsin56gamesplayed.EightVikinghit-tersearnedAll-Conferencehonors,whiletwo,OmarVillamanandAlecDowell,were selected to First andSecond All-State teams. VillamanwasalsoselectedasanHonorableMentionNJCAAAll-American. InElasik’s second season, theVikingshit.293asateamwith377runs scored and 320 RBIs. TheVi-kings finished the season with 56homerunsin55gamesplayed.SixVikinghitterswerenamedAll-Con-ference selections, including theMid-Florida Conference Player ofthe year, Justin Smith. Smith wasalsonamedasanFCSAA1stTeamAll-Stateoutfielderandwasselect-edbytheAtlantaBravesinthe2017MLBDraft. During the 2018 Season, theViking offense scored 333 runs,while driving in 288 RBI’s. The Vi-kingswere fourth in the FCSAA inteam homeruns with 57. ThreeViking hitters were named to theMid-Florida All-Conference team:Joey Bellini (1st), Kerry Carpenter(1st),andNickRomano(2nd).BothCarpenterandBelliniwerenamedtotheFCSAAAll-StateTeams. Elasik previously served oneyear as the head baseball coachatTrentonHighSchool.Duringhis

CadySmithisagraduateofSt.JohnsRiverStateCollegewheresheearned her Bachelors of AppliedScience inOrganizationalManage-ment the summer of 2018.
