Principal’s MessageCongratulations to all of our students in Public Speaking, Spelling Bee and representative sporting events. As usual, Sarah Redfern Public School has achieved so well in these areas. I was witness to the Spelling Bee and the athletics carnival and I was so proud of all of our students. We really are awesome!NAIDOC week was successful and more students and families are learning the significance of this event. We visited the high school for our Community of Schools NAIDOC celebration, which was great fun. Student Led conferences have been held, and from all accounts, parents, students and teachers report that they enjoyed the new format. As mentioned in the notes that went home, this is an opportunity for students to share their learning and academic growth, with their families. Student voice is valued at Sarah Redfern Public School and we look forward continuing this practice.Awards

Class teachers will collate and keep track of the yellow Star awards. Students and parents should keep track of Bronze, Silver and Gold Awards. When your child is due to receive an award at an assembly, a note will be sent home advising families so they may be able to join us in celebrating this achievement.

Respectful behaviour when entering the school grounds.

We are always here to ensure the safety of all members of the school community. Please read the following information around expectations of everyone when entering the school site. If you have any queries or concerns, please make an appointment to discuss with me.

Our school is committed to building a safe and happy environment for students, staff, parents and the broader community. We encourage parents and carers to advocate strongly on their child’s behalf and, as part of this, expect them to raise concerns about their child. Sometimes these concerns may relate to the way a child may have been treated by another student at this school. It is natural for parents and carers to feel protective of their children. However you must not raise any concerns you have about the behaviour of another child directly with that child (or his or her parents while they are at school) but should instead report your concerns to the principal or a member of the executive team. Your concerns will be taken seriously and responded to promptly. If a parent, carer or other community member raises their concerns directly with a child (or their parents while they are at school) this may result in the access that person has to the school site being restricted or withdrawn. We greatly value the contribution parents, carers and other community members make to the school community and do not wish to take any action that impacts on their participation in school activities. Please let us know if you have concerns about the behaviour of another person’s child while they are at school or on school related activities.

Raising your concerns directly with the child (or his or her parents while they are at school) could result in your access to the school site being restricted or withdrawn.

    SASS Recognition Week

Our office staff and support staff are some of the best in the business. On any given day they are assisting teachers, students and parents as well as the wider community.

Although they may seem like everything is calm, these very important, hard working people are actually helping make our school the best place it can be!

From Monday 26th August through to Friday 30th August, it is SASS (School Administrative and Support Staff) Recognition Week. I would love it if you could remember to thank the wonderful SLSO’s, GAs and office staff that we have at our school. I would not be able to do my job without them and the school would not run efficiently if they were not here. We are extra lucky because our SLSO’s, GAs and office staff are kind and caring - they are the best!! Please join me in thanking them for all that they do to help us!

    K/6L News

On Monday 5th August, K/6L joined 6R for a visit to Pembroke Lodge Nursing Home in Minto. 6R have been implementing their BIG IDEA around the topic ‘50 Days of Giving’ and K/6L have been learning about caring for ourselves and others in the community. Through these projects, students have been involved in a variety of teaching and learning experiences. Our students have been working together to extend their understanding by learning about different people in our community and the relationships we have with them. These learning experiences have been related to the various Key Learning Areas of the curriculum such as mathematics, English and PDHPE. Students were involved in an hour program where they completed craft activities, played games, shared stories and went for a tour of the gardens with residents at the lodge. Our students had a wonderful experience engaging with the residents. Miss Rocela and I were very proud of the way our students represented our school and it was very evident that our students and the residents thoroughly enjoyed this experience.
