2019 International Language Summer Camp

Do you want to learn some Chinese? Do you want to experience Taiwanese culture? This is a great

opportunity for you! National Formosa University has created a program includes a variety of cultural

activities and courses for students from different countries to experience. We will help students developing

Culture Course

In this course, we are going to teach some Chinese words and traditions. In addition, we will show a

food which we will eat on the Dragon Boat Festival and we will go on a field trip!

Calligraphy Calligraphy is an ancient Chinese culture, nowadays it also becomes a course

in art classes. In the beginning, we will show you a famous calligraphy

artwork from Wang Xizhi, and let’s experience how to write calligraphy with

writing brush.

Literati Painting A literati painting is a type of brush painting of Chinese origin that uses black

ink – the same as Chinese calligraphy. The ancients used it to satisfy their

hearts especially when they drew the bamboo. In ancient time, the bamboo

was a symbolization of virtue, and it always relates to people of positive

spirits. Let’s see what you can draw!

Zongzi As the Dragon Boat Festival just passed, there is one thing that we cannot

miss - the Zongzi! Zongzi is a traditional Chinese food, made of glutinous

rice stuffed with different ingredients and wrapped in bamboo leaves. They

are cooked by steaming or boiling. Now, let's check out how to make it!

Chinese Cultural Experience

Since you are already in Taiwan, it is better for you to

experience the culture yourself! We will go on a field trip,

visiting a local temple or a cultural museum.

Happy Taiwanese Time

Since Taiwanese is part of our culture, we are going to teach you how to sing Taiwanese songs, play

fun games, try tongue twister, and also some daily words.

This lesson is going to teach you how you can pronounce Taiwanese correctly and learn

fascinating Taiwanese songs.

Foods & Fruit Culture

Beside Chinese Culture, there is another culture you must experience when you visit Taiwan, the Fruit

Culture. Taiwan is famous for its variety of fruits. We will prepare some fruits for you to taste. And if you

eat it with a bowl of shaved ice with chocolate or condensed milk, it becomes another famous dish in

Taiwan. Let’s dig in!

In Taiwan, it is common to eat dumplings for

meals and it is also an important activity during

Chinese New Year. People eat dumplings as a

symbol of getting rich because of the shape of

Chinese ancient money. Since there are stuffing

inside the dumplings, people will put different

types of stuffing represent different meanings

wishing for good fortune in the next year. Let’s

make our own dumplings by ourselves!
