Monthly Report Despite wild weather a week either side of June 16 - 21, 11 members tripped to Rottnest and enjoyed simply blissful weather. How lucky were we! It was a good opportunity to relax, commune with nature, paint and enjoy one another’s company. While there were LONG happy hours, some very nice pieces of art were produced, too. You should consider joining the excursion next year. With the 2019 Awards now behind us, we can look forward to some stimulating demonstrations and workshops to round out the year. Thirty-three members braved the wintery weather at the June meeting and were treated to a delightful talk and demonstration by vivacious former member Paula Wiegmink. Paula explained how she has been able to combine her two passions, art and conservation, and in the process become a much sort-after artist for her depictions of animals and birds and her exquisite still-lives. Many thanks, Paula. Next meeting we look forward to the company of Gillian Peebles to discuss Composition. See details below. An opportunity not to be missed! Members who have not yet picked up their membership and discount cards are advised that they are held in the ACAS box at Atwell House and available at the monthly meeting. H E L P ! ! FYI It has come to our attention that the ‘old’ Alfred Cove Art Society website was not allowing linkage to the new Wildapricot website, which is possibly why some members have been having difficulty accessing the current site. It could also have prevented public access to information. This has now been rectified! An “Accessing [email protected] “ leaflet is now available at the desk at meetings. This new site at [email protected] has the capacity to allow for fees to be paid directly eliminating needless paperwork (that prevents someone from painting!!), events can be updated and deleted automatically and news updated regularly rather than just monthly. It has the capacity to allow members to advertise themselves and their artwork by providing a static profile-book-type members’ list and links to artists’ private web pages or social media sites. This is a service to members we would like to implement, however, we need help! Peta Zeller has contributed hours of work to connect the society with this up-to-date website that allows the Committee to manage membership and information distribution through the sophisticated database. However, the site is considerably under-utilised because ACAS desperately needs a computer-savvy web master/mistress. It is important we get proactive and move with the times! Peta is willing to assist initially to introduce the system but is unable to commit further time. The AGM is three months away, but it is time to consider if YOU can assist with the ongoing running of Alfred Cove Art Society into 2020. CAN YOU HELP??? NEWSLETTER July 2019

July 25 Thursday meeting. We are privileged to have Gillian Peebles give us an “Introduction to Fine Arts Advanced Composition”. It is not by chance that one artwork can be more popular than another. One of the main components of such successes can be through the artworks 'composition'. The knowing of such knowledge, including the tricks and skills of communication, and how composition can control one's viewing audiences, is of major benefit to artists and their viewing audiences. Several important skills will be demonstrated and others explained during the evening's tutorial. As the saying goes ... "time spent with Gillian is time well spent" . Gillian looks forward to your company and the opportunity to share information seldom taught in Australia.

Workshops and Exhibitions Ben Morton MP, Member for Tangney, is a keen supporter of ACAS and MCAA. He is offering a prize for the best artwork, in any medium, depicting some aspect of the Tangney electorate (see map). The Committee has decided to hold this themed exhibition at the AGM ON OCTOBER 31 (venue to be advised), so put on your thinking caps and start painting. You will need to present your work professionally and provide your own display easel (upright or table) as there may be no provision for hanging at the venue.

FREE ENTRY NIGHT FOR ALL MEMBERS AND GUESTS.

Plein Air Down Under invites local, national and international artists to join in the fun of Mandurah’s first outdoor painting festival. Workshops, paint outs, an exhibition, demonstrations and artist talks all celebrate the joy of plein air painting. And there is almost $5,000 in cash and prizes! Feature guest artist Warwick Fuller will be painting and demonstrating throughout the festival. The main festival dates are 28 – 30 September 2019, with pre-festival workshops facilitated by internationally renowned plein air painters Warwick Fuller and Leon Holmes. Warwick is our feature guest artist and will be painting and demonstrating throughout the festival long weekend. His workshop is sold out and we are soon to release a second workshop by award winning plein air artist Leon Holmes. Leon’s workshop will focus on plein air for beginners. He is a bit of a rock star in the plein air world, and will be painting, demonstrating and speaking during the festival. If there is enough interest we will add a third workshop, using watercolour. 28, 29 and 30 September 2019 Mandurah, Western Australia Register at: https://pleinairdownunder.com/
