(Another opportunity will offered in September as well) “Disciples 101” Sermon Series Our congregation is a part of the Christian Church (Disciples of Christ)- but what does that mean? Join us as we explore these questions together in a new sermon series starting Sunday, August 25th. “Disciples 101” Wednesday Night Class We’ll also be exploring these questions & other themes as part of a Wednesday night discussion group starting Wednesday, August 28, at 6:30 p.m. This class will take place at the same time as our children and youth programs and a nursery will be provided for children ages infant-preschool upon request. ************************************************************************************************************************ From the Senior Minister- General Assembly Update It’s good to be back with you after attending our denomination’s General Assembly in Des Moines, Iowa! We as Disciples gather every 2 years for General Assembly, which includes workshops, worship services, and business sessions that include hearing reports from the different ministries and organizations that make up the general level of our denomination, as well as considering resolutions that are brought to the Assembly by congregations or units of the church. You can find full details of each resolution at this web address: ga.disciples.org/business I was able to attend 6 different workshops that dealt with building use & mission, stewardship, social media & the church, and immigration issues & ministries. Worship included a variety of music and preaching, including a very powerful closing worship session. Streaming video of each worship session will be available through the end of the year at www.disciplesga.org Finally, our next General Assembly will be here in the Bluegrass State, as we’ll next gather for GA on July 31-August 4, 2021, in Louisville! I’m thankful to you for the opportunity to participate in this year’s General Assembly, as well as to Christy Messick for filling the pulpit while I was away. – Chris We Make the Road by Walking It Group We’re experimenting with a new Faith Formation opportunity! Starting the first week of September, a year-long group will be reading “We Make the Road by Walking It” by Brian McLaren and discussing each week’s readings in a private Facebook group. The book includes 52 chapters that help explore the overarching story and themes of the entire Bible. Each chapter is 4-5 pages long and lists a few selected chapters from scripture to read as well. Copies of the book are available for purchase through the church office for $7.00 each or can be purchased on your own (it’s available as an e-book as well). Nate Alexander & Chris Cash will be facilitating the online discussion. Please contact them or the church office if you’d like to be a part of the group and you’ll receive an invitation to join the Facebook group (you’ll need a Facebook account to participate- please let us know if you need assistance).

Vacation Bible School at FCC! All kids, ages 2 through fifth grade, are invited to join us August 5-8 from 5:30-7:30 p.m. (the night of the 8th will finish earlier). We’ll explore what an elephant, kangaroo, and giraffe have to with the good news that God loves us! Registration can be done through forms available on a table in the gathering area or at fccgeorgetown.org. You can sign-up to help work in areas of VBS on the sheets in the Gathering Area hallway bulletin board. We will decorate for VBS on Sunday, August 4th at 2:00 pm.
