Secondary 2 Streaming
• We believe in providing an education that caters to thedifferent learning abilities of all our students so that we canbetter prepare them for their post-secondary life journey.
• The streaming exercise aims to allow every student torealise his/ her potential, based on his/ her interests andstrengths.
• Students in the Express Stream will have an option to take 7or 8 subjects (depending on their academic ability), basedon the combinations offered by the school*.
*Combinations offered were based on the findings gathered from a students’ survey conducted in 2018.

FAQ 1: On Subject Criteria
My child did not do that well in terms of meeting thesubject criteria for certain subjects that he intended toapply. Will the school consider lowering the criteria?
The setting of qualifying criteria is to safeguard ourstudents from offering subjects that are beyond theirability to cope. Hence, the school will approach this on acase-by-case basis.

FAQ 2: Related to Triple Science
a) Do I need to do Triple Science in JC to qualify for Medicine?• No, you need a GOOD PASS in H2 Chemistry + a PASS in either H2
Physics or H2 Biology.• There is no longer a Triple Science Combination in JC. There is also
no H2 Physics + H2 Biology combination, as H2 Chemistry is thecompulsory Science subject for students offering two H2 Sciences.
b) Do I need to do Triple Science in Sec School to qualify for Medicine?• No, you only need to qualify for two H2 Sciences in JC (Chemistry +
Physics or Biology)• To qualify for that, you need a PASS in 2 Pure Sciences or a PASS in 1
Pure Science + a Distinction in 1 Combined Science

• JAE is a centralised posting exercise conducted annually by
MOE for holders of the Singapore-Cambridge GCE ‘O’ Level
certificate to apply for admission to courses offered by
Junior Colleges (JC), Millennia Institute (MI), Polytechnics
and the Institute of Technical Education (ITE).

FAQ 3: Use of Humanities Subject for Computation of L1R5 for JC Admission
Is it compulsory to include Humanities in the computation ofL1R5, and if so, which Humanities subject should beincluded?
• Yes, it is MOE’s policy that at least one Humanities subjectshould be included in the L1R5 computation.
• If your child is doing only Combined Humanities, thenCombined Humanities will be included.
• If he is doing Pure Literature or Pure Geography in additionto Combined Humanities, he will have a choice to includeeither one or both Humanities subjects.
FAQ 4: On Relevance of Humanities Subjects for Poly Admission
How important are the Humanities subjects foradmission to Polytechnics?
If your child is applying for admission to courses incommerce and business, mass media andcommunications, and psychology, a good grade inHumanities will put him in good stead as thesecourses will require him to read widely and to havegood analytical and writing skills.
FAQ 5: Related to Additional Mathematics
a) Is Additional Mathematics very important for admission toJCs and Polytechnics?• It is a requirement for H2 Mathematics in JC but some JCs
may consider allowing students with only GCE ‘O’ levelElementary Mathematics to study H2 Math in JC if thestudents qualify for the Science Stream.
• For polys, either Elementary Maths and Additional Maths canbe used for ELR2B2 group 1 R2 subjects
b) Can my child take Additional Mathematics as a privatecandidate concurrently if he did not meet the pre-requisite?• No. School candidate are not allowed to sign up other
subjects as a private candidate in the same nationalexamination.

The Parent Gateway (PG) Mobile App is aninitiative by MOE to enable parents to interactwith schools more conveniently onadministrative and financial matters. Parents willalso be able to use this app to stay updated onthe school’s programme and activities.
The PG App will be implemented progressively in Hai Sing this year. If youhave two or more children and they are in different schools, you will be ableto receive notifications for all your children on the same PG App.We strongly encourage all parents to download and use the PG App.
