Leaders are everyday people like you who believe in the work of United Way. Leaders recognize the often ignored issues within our community and act to make change.

Leaders take action by giving gifts of $1,200 or more. You know lasting and positive change is possible and our community is strongest and healthiest when everyone has the opportunity to reach their full potential. Your generosity changes lives.

WHO ARE UNITED WAY

United Way works year round to invest time, knowledge and resources in achieving measurable community based outcomes that focus on the complex needs of our community’s most vulnerable people; the children, families and individuals who are often ignored.

Thank you to all donors and volunteers for making these investments possible.

INVESTING IN CHILDREN

AND FAMILIES

Our goal for the community is to be measurably better off as a result of our work and the work of our partners. Your support of United Way provides opportunities by investing in local programs, services and initiatives that support our work; to positively impact the lives of vulnerable children, youth and their families so they have the means to thrive as strong citizens in our community.

• United Way helps kids be all that they can be by focusing on a child’s readiness for kindergarten; achievement of grade level reading and a confident journey toward independence.

• United Way builds strong communities by supporting positive mental health initiatives; creating a barrier free path to services and connecting people to their community.

• United Way moves people from poverty to possibility by ensuring basic human needs are met; individuals attain financial stability and families have a safe place to call home.

SaskPower was awarded the United for Change Community Fundraiser Award in April, 2019. In addition to their employee workplace campaign that raises over $100,000, SaskPower has generously donated $40,000 toward United Way Classroom Libraries. This gift will power the love of reading with an injection of over 1,600 books for school aged children in Regina. Verna and Lara also play an instrumental role planning the United Way Day - Pulling Together event each June.

United Way Leaders like you choose to act because you want to help families move out of poverty into healthy and sustainable situations; you want your community to work together to thrive and provide children and youth with the means to become successful adults.

In 2018, 375 Leadership donors contributed a total of $963,820

100 percent of donations to United Way Regina stay in our community because we know our community is strongest when everyone has the opportunity to thrive.

Many United Way Regina Leaders make personal donations or make use of the payroll deduction option through their employers, but there are other ways to be a community Leader.

DONATIONS OF LISTED SECURITIES

Take advantage of greater tax saving opportunities while creating positive change in our community.

By donating publicly traded shares to United Way, you will not pay any capital gains tax normally associated with such a disposition. You will receive a tax receipt for the full value of the shares but are not taxed on any gain. Donors of securities therefore do not need to take any capital gain into income.

WAYSTO GIVE

PLANNED GIVING OPTIONS

All gifts are planned gifts. Many donors are interested in making sure their support continues after they are no longer making an annual contribution. Often, planned gifts are made from assets accumulated with care over many years.

United Way Regina is able to help you achieve your charitable objectives. You may be surprised at how simple it is to make a substantial gift with flexible giving options such as:

• A bequest in your will;• A gift of life insurance;• A gift of cash, securities, or property;• A gift in the form of residual interest;• A commemorative gift

Page 30: 2019 UNITED WAY LEADERSHIP GIVING PROGRAM · Darren & Iris Howden Bill & Shelley Hubble Christine Lynn Hughes Clare & Van Isman Julianne Jack Leanne Jarocki Rankin & Madelein Jaworski

• Donations to charity are deducted directly from your taxes in the form of a credit applied against taxes payable.

• This charitable tax credit reduces the amount of federal and provincial tax you may pay in the according year.

• Regardless of personal income, donations of equal size are credited equally.

• The system rewards extra giving; the more you donate, the larger your tax credit.
