What a summer we have had! We have met new, fresh performers and participated in amazing summer programs and activities. I rarely spend time at the circulation desk, but I enjoy my “visits” there when I’m leaving for the day. I enjoy watching parents instilling the love of books, reading, and libraries to their children. I was so glad to have popped in on a few programs, activities, and book clubs. Everyone seemed to have had a grand time. Unfortunately, one expected guest named Barry decided to disrupt our final activities. Hurricane Barry was not kind, but our diligent staff checked on the libraries, discovering leaks that proved capable of damaging our collection. With quick thinking, our collection was moved to drier ground! A special thank you to the family members who lent a hand during this three-day storm.
All libraries are operational at this point, with the Bayou Vista Branch Library operating out of its meeting room. Our Bayou Vista and West End branches received enough damage to close the DVD corner in West End and Bayou Vista’s DVD and picture book area. As of currently, Bayou Vista Branch is providing limited library service in its meeting room. We apologize for the disruption of service due to the storm. Our goal is to resume our normal operating mode as soon the permanent repairs are completed.
Congratulations to all readers and the exceptional readers who placed. When it comes to reading, all readers
are winners! As Summer draws to a close, St. Mary Parish Library wishes for you and your family to be free
of storms, enjoy reading, and have a great school year. Please, don’t wait until next summer to visit your
library!
