LENTEN SCHEDULE ... Ash Wednesday is February 26 ...
Masses with the distribution of ashes after the homily at 8 am and
9 am with the elementary school children; special Liturgy of the
Word with ashes at 5 pm especially for the CCD children, their
parents and parishioners; special Liturgy of the Word with ashes
at 7 pm in Spanish ... ashes will not be distributed at the rectory ...
liturgical guidelines indicate that ashes should be distributed
within a Mass or special service ... ashes are a sign of conversion,
prayer and a commitment to penance during the 40 days of
Lent ... they are not a quick mark on our foreheads to say we got
our ashes ... let's be serious about this ancient sign.�

LENTEN STATIONS OF THE CROSS ... will be celebrated
on the FRIDAYS OF LENT at 6:30 pm in English and 7:30 pm in
Spanish EXCEPT on the FIRST FRIDAYS OF MARCH AND
APRIL when we have Mass at 7 pm followed by Exposition and
Adoration until midnight ��� another Lenten opportunity.�
LENTEN REMINDERS ... Ash Wednesday and Good Friday
are days of fast and abstinence for Catholics ... fasting means one
full meal on those days for Catholics between 18�59 ... abstinence
means no meat or poultry for Catholics aged 14 ... ALL
FRIDAYS OF LENT ARE DAYS OF ABSTINENCE (NO
MEAT0 ... all Fridays of the year are designated as days of
penance ... Easter duty (confession and Holy Communion)
between March 1 and June 7 which seems so very little to do for
a practicing Catholic in the United States.�

Thank you for your warm welcome to the men of the Corona Self
�Help Group ... they are always very grateful for your kind
responses and support ... we all know how difficult the cross of
an addiction can be (drugs, alcohol, overeating, sex, gambling,
etc) and many of us know this personally ... thank you to the
many parishioners who have been working on our winter events �
�� parish council members, dance committee members, Lenten
revival committee, bus trips, receptions, etc ��� there is a
tremendous spirit of cooperation and willingness to make things
happen here in the parish ... much appreciated and "the best is yet
to come" ... plans are in the initial stages to train additional
lectors and Eucharistic ministers ... more altar servers are being
sought ... the adult RCIA program is planning for 4 parishioners
to be confirmed at the Easter Vigil ... and so we are alive and
well, thanks to you! �

NEXT WEEKEND ... we welcome Mr. Tony Felicissimo from
the Family Life Office of the Archdiocese ... he will be speaking
at the sermon time about the proposed NYS assisted suicide
law ... the celebrant of the Mass will have a short homily and will
introduce Mr. Felicissimo ... he will be asking our assistance in
opposing this latest attack on life ... we were not successful last
year in regard to the EXPANDED ABORTION LAW IN NYS ...
let's stop this latest attack on life.�
RENEW+REBUILD UPDATE ... as of February 4, we have
pledges of $740,040 and $334,005.94 has been paid into the cam-
paign ... our bank account has $77,624 for the use of our parish ...
as you know, 26% of your pledge goes to the Archdiocese and
74% remains in the parish ... also, from the paid pledges $72,542
went to the Cardinal's Campaign for 2018 ... a reminder to com-
plete your pledges on a timely basis ... we will be using these
funds for the a/c and heating replacement in the church ... as al-
ways, thanks!�
FROM THE CARDINAL ... His Eminence is asking us to re-
member the spiritual renewal of the Archdiocese during our First
Friday Nocturnal Adoration Prayer beginning Friday, March 6 ...
a wonderful suggestion.�
MASS INTENTIONS ... a wonderful and prayer way to remem-
ber a loved one … living or deceased … is the offer a Mass for
him or her ... stop by the rectory for a specific date and time ...
the usual offering is $20 ... if you wish, you may ask for a Mass
card to give your loved one or the family.�
CARDINAL'S CAMPAIGN ... thank you to 22 parishioners
who have already made their pledges and gifts ... total so far is
$8000 towards our assigned goal of $70,000 ... I will be sending
out "begging" letters ... thanks AGAIN!�
THE FLU ... is with us ... you are reminded of basic sanitary
concerns ... also, there is no need to receive the Blood of Christ
from the chalice if you have a cold, a cough or a concern ...

HOMEMADE IRISH SODA BREAD ... we want to feature the

RECIPE from the Emerald Isle:�
�� 3 tablespoons butter or margarine, softened�
�� 2 1/2 cups all purpose flour�
�� 2 tablespoons sugar,�
�� 1 teaspoon baking soda,�
�� 1 teaspoon baking powder�
�� 1/2 teaspoon of salt�
�� 1/3 cup raisins�
�� 3/4 cup of buttermilk�
HEAT OVEN TO 375. Grease cookie sheet. Cut butter into flour,
sugar, baking soda, baking powder and salt in large bowl, using pastry
blender or crisscrossing 2 knives, until mixture resembles fine crumbs.
Stir in raisins and just enough buttermilk so dough leaves side of bowl.
Turn dough onto lightly floured surface. Knead 1 to 2 minutes or until
smooth. Shape into round loaf, about 6 1/2 inches in diameter. Place on
cookie sheet. Cut an X shape about 1/2inch deep through loaf with
floured knife. Bake 35 to 45 minutes or until golden brown. Brush with
butter or margarine, softened, if desired. Bring to the rectory for the
priests to try!�

para los católicos de 14 años. TODOS LOS VIERNES DE
CUARESMA SON DÍAS DE ABSTINENCIA (SIN CARNE ... todos
los viernes del año están designados como días de penitencia ... Deber

RECETA de la Isla Esmeralda:�
�� 3 cucharadas de mantequilla o margarina, ablandada�
� 2 1/2 tazas de harina de uso múltiple�
� 2 cucharadas de azúcar,�
� 1 cucharadita de bicarbonato de sodio,�
� 1 cucharadita de polvo para hornear�
� 1/2 cucharadita de sal�
� 1/3 taza de pasas�
� 3/4 taza de suero de mantequilla��
HORNO DE CALOR EN 375. Engrasar la bandeja para hornear. Cortar la
mantequilla en harina, azúcar, bicarbonato de sodio, polvo de hornear y sal
en un tazón grande, usando una batidora de pastelería o entrecruzando 2
cuchillos, hasta que la mezcla se asemeje a migas finas. Agregue las pasas y
el suero suficiente para que la masa salga del recipiente. Coloque la masa
sobre una superficie ligeramente enharinada. Amasar 1 a 2 minutos o hasta
que esté suave. Forma en el pan redondo, cerca de 6 1/2 pulgadas de
diámetro. Colocar en la bandeja de hornear. Corte una forma de X alrededor
de 1 / 2inch de profundidad a través de pan con cuchillo enharinado. Hornee
de 35 a 45 minutos o hasta que estén doradas. Cepille con mantequilla o
margarina, ablandada, si se desea. Traigan a la rectoría para que los
sacerdotes lo prueben.�
