A Parent’s PrayerThank you for my children, Lord. I know they are a gift from you.

Daily I need your strength and wisdom to train them in the way they should go. Give me patience and a joyful heart, let me be an

example of your love and forgiveness. Thank you, Father, for the honor of being a parent.

~ Taught first grade for three years at St. Peter’s in New Castle and for five years at SJB

~ Taught preschool for four years at SJB

Morning Procedures● Students enter through doors by first grade. No parents will be allowed entry in to the building for

safety reasons.● Children will be greeted each morning. It is important to start the day feeling welcomed.● Students are responsible for emptying their backpacks.

~ bookbags and coats are on hung on chairs

~ homework ( happy face) folders will be placed on desks along with water bottles

~ homework folders will be collected and emptied

~ students copy homework and complete morning work while waiting for announcements

~ begin with school announcements, prayer and Pledge of Allegiance

Attendance● Morning bell rings at 7:35 and students must be in the classroom● Students will not be admitted to side doors after morning bell - please do not ring the doorbell● Students must be walked to the front door of school and buzzed in there● Students are marked absent if not in the classroom by 7:35. Will switch to tardy after checked in● Please arrive on time to reduce disruptions● Please inform me if a student will be late or out sick

Absence ● This year it is VERY IMPORTANT to keep sick children home to keep everyone healthy and safe.● Children will not be “zooming in” while at home sick. Will discuss if an extended absence is

necessary.● Will work together to complete any missed work in a timely fashion.● Please send a note explaining absence upon return to school.

End of the Day Procedures● Students will be told SEVERAL times what books need to go home. They are responsible for

checking their bookbag. Students will not be allowed to re enter the building to retrieve forgotten books.

● Home folders will go home each night and must be emptied daily.● Towels, pencil cases and Friday Folders will be sent home on the last day of the week. Towels

should be washed and supplies should be replenished in pencil cases. ● Students will line up according to their transportation status.● Please inform me via note if transportation status is changing.If change must be made mid day,

please call the office so they can inform me via phone call. I do not always get to check email during the day.

Classroom Expectations● Students must ALWAYS try their best. Mistakes will be made and this is how we learn. ● Children should use their manners at all time. Our classroom motto is “Manners work Magic”. We

encourage the use of “yes, please” and “no, thank you.”● Students must follow classroom rules

1. Be kind. We show kindness to others and to ourselves!2. Raise your hand to speak. Do not get frustrated if you are not called on.3. Work quietly. This allows our friends to concentrate.4. Show respect to classmates and to their belongings.

Behavior Chart● Clip system is used to monitor behavior.● All students start on green and are encouraged to “Go for the Green!”● Reminders will be given if a student is not making a good choice. If the behavior continues, the clip

will move down to yellow reminding students to slow down and think about their behavior.● If behavior continues, they will move their clip to orange and there will be a consequence like a

missed recess. If the behavior continues, the clip will move to red and parents will be notified via email so that you can discuss the behavior.

● Students can always move up by making good choices or showing improvement in choices being made. Clips can move up and down all day.

● If a student is on green and makes good choices or has extra good listening ears or is showing extra kindness, their clip will move up to blue. If they continue to make good choices, they can move to purple which is a role model. A happy note will be sent home on purple days.

● At the end of the day if a student is on role model, they will receive a sticker on their clip.

● After five stickers are earned, they can choose a reward such as bring a stuffed animal in, wear comfy sneakers, etc.

● Please ask your child each day what color day they had. Remember that our goal is to ‘Go for Green” as this indicates that a student is ready to learn!

● You will be contacted if a behavior needs to be addressed or is becoming a pattern.

Homework/Tests● No homework for the first month to allow time to transition.● Practice math facts, reading and review high frequency words.● Homework will be assigned Monday through Thursday and will consist of spelling, math and

reading.● Homework SHOULD NOT be done in their homework book. This is for copying homework only.● Always try their best!● You will be given two days notice for upcoming tests.

Supplies● Make sure that your child is ready for our day by having all supplies needed. Pencil cases will be

sent home on Fridays so you can replenish supplies and sharpen pencils. Students should always have sharpened pencils in their bookbags.

● Return pencil cases on Monday.● Keep extra supplies on hand at home.

Uniforms● Students may wear gym uniform on any day but must be worn on Wednesday and Friday.● Practice tying shoes!● Winter uniform will start on November 2. Children must wear fleece or sweater.● Make sure names are on tags.

Nurse’s Office

● Students will only be sent for true emergencies.● Small bumps and falls will be handled in the classroom.● Nurse will come to classroom if need be.● Nurse will inform you if your child was seen.

Birthdays/Volunteers/Field trips● No birthday celebrations, volunteers or field trips.● Make sure you have an active volunteer covenant and background check on file. Background

checks are good for five years.● Virtual field trips will be taken through the use of technology.

Snack and Lunch● Children need one healthy snack each day and a packed lunch. There is NO HOT LUNCH available.● Make sure your child has all utensils needed - napkins, forks, straws, etc.● No lunch on early dismissal days unless attending Eagle’s Club. Children will need snack.● Water bottles are kept on desks and can be refilled with disposable bottles. Water fountains are not

being used this year.

Bathroom Policy● Two group bathroom breaks each day - before snack and lunch. Children must try and hands must

be washed!● Children are allowed to go if they ask but may be asked to wait until a classmate returns.● Discuss only using the bathroom when needed.

Hand Sanitizing and Desk Washing

● Hands sanitized each time we enter the room.● Desks wiped each morning, prior to snack and lunch and at the end of the day.

Masks● Must be worn at all times while in the building● Can be removed for snack and lunch● Many mask breaks throughout the day● Not worn while outside● Extra masks should be kept in bookbags

Recess

● Will go out each day, weather permitting● Please be dressed appropriately. ● Raincoats on rainy days

Curriculum● Wonders Reading Series● Sadlier Math● We Believe Religion Series● Science Fusion● Social Studies through Wonders Reading and Scholastic News● Handwriting● Spelling● User names and passwords for links will be sent home. Assignments may be given requiring

students to access various websites.

High Frequency Words

● Must memorize and identify quickly to help with reading fluency

Teacher Page● Check page nightly. WIll be updated by 4:30.● “Week at a glance”● Will not update daily but may add on to important dates so check to be sure your child has all that is

needed.
