British Flagmakers

Our heritage can be traced back as far as 1837, when George Tutill began producing processional banners and regalia. Tutill’s flags were flown at the Great Exhibition of 1851.

In 1872, originally based in South London and after winning a contract to supply the Royal Navy with signalling flags we soon became one of the world’s leading manufacturers and suppliers of flags, banners and pennants. It is therefore fair to claim that our knowledge and expertise can truly be said to stretch back 180 years and that Flagmakers have become one of the major suppliers in the UK. We have also been recognised by and registered with The Flag Institute as a British Flagmaker for over 25 years.

With recent investment in upgraded facilities, we have also chosen to invest in a young and enthusiastic team to take Flagmakers forward in this fast-paced and competitive world. Although technology in flagmaking has come a long way and now ensures greater consistency, we are careful to retain the human touch as far as possible and strive to ensure that we still produce stunning hand-sewn and hand-painted flags, retaining the timeless skill of our craft.

Quality remains our driving ambition and is one that we consider with every item we produce or sell.

to our world of flags!Welcome

Appliqué Flags

Prestige locations demand an appliquéd flag. The original and still the most durable way to make a flag, our skilled, artisan flagmakers hand-make your flag from traditional flag fabrics. The design for each flag is lovingly drawn to the base fabric, then each element of the design is sewn by hand to create a finished flag, which not only looks fantastic, but is also a real piece of art in itself. As standard, appliqué flags have a mirror image on the reverse side - but can be double sided if preferred.

Appliquéd Flags with a printed badge or crest

Best of both worlds - combining old world and new world techniques. We can print complex elements of your design to either Decotex fabric or knitted polyester and then sew to the field of your flag to create a result which has the look and feel of an appliquéd product but at a fraction of the cost of a fully appliquéd version. We are uniquely placed to offer this hybrid flag product because of our traditional and digital in-house flagmaking facilities. • Ideal for club flags or pennants• Great value• Complex or multi-colour designs realised with a traditional finish• Ceremonial Flags and Ensigns

Embroidered Flags

Embroidery produces the finest quality ceremonial flags. The design is re-created by stitching by hand or machine, often using gold and metallic threads to create a real aura of quality and detail. This provides a texture and depth to the design. Embroidery is normally used for indoor ceremonial or display flags, as they would damage easily outdoors due to their weight and to poor weather conditions.

Hand Painted Flags

This traditional technique allows artistic images and heraldic designs to be applied to a flag. The artist creates the design by using acrylic paint. Firstly, any appliqué detail is added to the flag and then the actual flag itself is painted.

Digital Print

We’ve been making flags for over 175 years, so we do know a thing or two about doing it properly. Digital Print has revolutionised flag making in the last decade. We’ve stayed at the forefront of technology with one of the UK’s largest and most sophisticated production facilities, backed up with decades of know-how.

The critical difference Print - Fix - Wash - Unlike other printers we COLOUR FIX AND WASH all our outdoor fabric prints before they are dispatched so no colour runs - GUARANTEED!

Imagine the possibilities

Digital print lets you do things with flags that you never could before. Multiple one-offs, or large scale, you can realise a world of choices

Dye Sublimation

Dye sublimation flags are perfect for a vast range of flag products but are particularly suited to higher volume requirements, typically orders for 100 units or greater. Dye sublimation is perfect for accurate reproduction of PantoneTM colours and corporate identity.

Suitable for spot or process (full) colour images dye sublimation has the flexibility to cover all but the most specialist requirements. Each flag is hand finished with a sturdy headband and your choice of D-rings, clips or toggles.

WINDCHASER FLAGSWindchaser Flags bring height, colour and movement and relay a message well. They are simple to use and available in 5 different styles. Printed in full colour to knitted polyester.

AeroThe Aero Windchaser is the classic feather flag format. The curved top and square bottom maximises the area available for graphics and curved top edge holds the flag out, guaranteeing the message is always visible regardless of wind strength.

BladeThe Blade Windchaser has a teardrop shape which makes it stand out in a crowd. The whole flag is held tight so there is no fluttering or curling, guaranteeing the flag image is always visible.

MistralThe Mistral Windchaser is our most popular. The curved top and base mirror each other giving a stylish design without compromising on the graphics area. It uses a flexible glassfibre pole which is tensioned as the flag is sleeved onto it. The flag flies in the expected way giving movement and colour.

Spiked Base

Spiked bases are for outdoor use and allow Windchasers to be discreetly and securely positioned onto soft surfaces. The smooth bearing action helps easy flag rotation.

Drive-on Base

This base enables Windchaser flags to be used in conjunction with a car or other vehicle. Simple to install, they form a secure anchor point and enable highly visible branding on the forecourt.

SiroccoThe Sirocco Windchaser has sharp lines for a clean look. The curved top holds the flag on display whilst the angled base draws the eye. Each flag comes with your choice of base and a sectional glassfibre pole. Easily assembled without tools, once secured to a base they will withstand the rigours of an outdoor event season.

ForecourtThe Forecourt Windchaser is perfect for vehicle sale, rental and promotions. The 2m flag is used with a 4m pole which elevates the graphic and ensures the flag flies clear of the vehicle. It comes complete with a drive-on base and is compatible with a variety of vehicle types.

Waterfilled Base

The waterfilled base is very handy as it can be moved anywhere and when filled with water sits in place securely. Comes complete with bag, spigot and pegs.

Flagpole Installation Flagmakers have dedicated flagpole installation teams that cover the whole of the UK. Our fully qualified engineers are just the guys for the job and with the relevant and expected Construction Skills Certification (CSCS), you can rest assured your installation will be carried out professionally and safely. Our London team have been installing flagpoles for some of the city’s best known landmarks and top hotels for many years but their qualifications give you additional confidence.

Flagmakers Flagpole Service BS 559 states that there is a legal responsibility for both the owner and installer of a flagpole to ensure ongoing maintenance takes place. We can inspect and carry out essential maintenance on your flagpole at agreed intervals to ensure compliance.

Flagmakers Flag Change Service The flag you fly represents you and your business and you will want to ensure that your flag is always in immaculate condition. We can help with this, by changing your flag whenever it looks a little less than perfect, for another, and whilst this replacement is flying, we will launder and repair the other, which we will then keep ready for the next time a change is required. You can choose to have this changeover on a monthly or quarterly basis or whenever preferred, and we will schedule our dedicated London team to attend and take care of this for you*. You will always have two flags on the premise that one is always flying and the other in the wash. This way, we can ensure that your flag and pole are in pristine condition.

*In addition to this we can also provide a half-masting service.

Flagpoles are a traditional way to announce your presence and make a statement. Whether you are flying a national or corporate flag we aim to guide you through the various options to help you make the right choice.
