2020 BULLETIN ADVERTISERS NEEDED St. Joseph the Worker and Holy Family Parish would like to invite your business to advertise in our weekly bulletin for 2020. We print these bulletins in-house which allows us to include more content and color features, while still supporting businesses in our local community. In addition to displaying your
advertisement on the bulletin jacket, we showcase a different business each week under our “Bulletin Brought to You by” section. We also offer “In Loving Memory” ads for those who have passed away. The bulletin would not be possible without our advertisers, so please consider helping your parish in this way. Contact Nicole at 388-3766 or [email protected] for more info. or if you are interested. Thank you to all those who already advertise with us! Invoices for 2020 were mailed out, please let us know if you did not receive one.
MONEY COUNTERS NEEDED
We could still use a couple more money counting volunteers to help count the weekend collections. Counting usually takes approximately one hour and you are only scheduled about once a month. No experience or special mathematical skills needed. If you are interested or would like additional information, please contact Nicole at the Parish Office, 388-3766 or [email protected]
You make possible the many retreats and conferences for our youth and
young adults to encounter Christ, faith formation for all to learn the rich story of our faith, catechetical training for
hundreds of clergy, parish and school staff, support with vocations
discernment, resources to strengthen marriages and families and
community outreach to the poor. Please give generously to this year’s

St. Joseph the Worker Parish Goal:
$32,700 Holy Family Parish Goal:
$9,900 Let’s Reach Our Goal This Year!!!
“Dear friends, what the Christian should be doing at all times should be done now with greater care and devotion, so that the Lenten fast enjoined by the apostles may be fulfilled, not simply by abstinence from food but above all by the renunciation of sin.
There is no more profitable practice as a companion to holy and spiritual fasting than that of almsgiving. This embraces under the single name of mercy many excellent works of devotion…
The works of mercy are innumerable. Their very variety brings this advantage to those who are true Christians, that in the matter of almsgiving not only the rich and affluent but also those of average means and the poor are able to play their part. Those who are unequal in their capacity to give can be equal in the love within their hearts.”
Who do you think wrote these words? St. Leo the Great, who Pope from 440-461 AD. Sometimes we can wonder what forms of almsgiving we should choose. I’d like to suggest a few options that merit your consideration this Lent:
+ Our Lenten project to help our sister parish, St. Lucie in Haiti, complete their school. I hope that you have seen the photos of the progress being made. Quite amazing! Now is the time to finish the project and they need $6,221 for the final touches so that they can open the doors to the children who are so eager to learn. As Father Harold, the pastor, often says, “Without education, our children have no future.” The Stewardship Committee is providing prayer cards and an envelope so that you can pray for our sister parish and make a gift.
+ For many years now, Catholic Relief Services has provided an excellent program for Lenten almsgiving, the Rice Bowls. These materials open our eyes and hearts to the needs of people throughout the world, enabling us to pray with and for them, fast in solidarity with those who go hungry, learn about their challenging situations, and give financial support to help them improve their lives. You can pick up a Rice Bowl at church and also check out their website: https://www.crsricebowl.org/
+ Next week, March 8th, there is a wonderful local option: the “Pasta with the Padres” on behalf of Echo Food Shelf. You can give by helping out with the dinner (although it is at St. John the Baptist this year, it would be great to have more volunteers from our parish cluster), attending the event (free will offering) or simply making a gift during March (which is Minnesota Food Share month when gifts of food and money are matched). More details are in the bulletin.
I hope and pray that you will choose one, two or all of these worthy works of mercy for your Lenten almsgiving. Pope St. Leo the Great, pray for us and all in need this Lent!
Sincerely in Christ,

MESSAGE OF HIS HOLINESS POPE FRANCIS
FOR LENT 2020 (Vatican Documents)
“We implore you on behalf of Christ,
be reconciled to God” (2 Cor 5:20)
Dear Brothers and Sisters,
This year the Lord grants us, once again, a favorable time to
prepare to celebrate with renewed hearts the great mystery of
the death and resurrection of Jesus, the cornerstone of our
personal and communal Christian life. We must continually
return to this mystery in mind and heart, for it will continue to
grow within us in the measure that we are open to its spiritual
power and respond with freedom and generosity.

SJW MISSION GROUP UPDATE - Did you know that the Mission Group of St. Joe’s made 1000 people warmer in 2019. The eight ladies who knit or crochet made 549 hats, scarves, shawls, and mittens, while eleven women assembled, sewed and tied 440 quilts, lap robes and baby quilts. These were given away to twelve local charities as well as to six out of state service groups. Every baby baptized in this parish, as well as at Holy Family, receives a baby quilt or shawl. Additionally, items are donated to the Fall Festival’s silent auction and when possible, a parishioner in a nursing home receives a lap robe or a pillow. Many thanks for using your time and talents to make this all possible!
