“Closet Majors”
1. Grade points are calculated by multiplying the number of hours per courseby the numerical value given for each grade (on a 4.0 grade scale)
2. Grade point deficits are calculated by weight, with a C at zero
Example:
Course Hours Grade Grade Pointsper hour
Total Grade Points
Grade Point Deficit
BIOL 111 4 A 4 16 +8
CHEM 119 4 C 2 8 –
MATH 147 4 D 1 4 -4
KINE 199 1 S – – –
ENGL 104 3 F 0 0 -6
Overall 15 28 -2
28 Grade Points/15 Hours = 1.87 GPA
Calculating Grade Points & Deficits
