2020 SERVING EL KARUBAH SHRINERS
The year 2019 is over. We are starting a new year and a new
decade (2020). If you were at the installation of officers on the 11th of January 2020, you would know that this year’s motto is Clear Vision. It goes good with 2020, right? Let’s look forward and do everything we can to make El Karubah a stronger Temple with new members and prosperous projects. Let’s always speak well of the work we do and always build up our Shrine. The Shrine is US and We are the Shrine. We are going to have a great year working and having fun together. Changes have been made to start this year anew. But, the New Year
will only be better if we ALL work, plan and play together for a better end result. We are going to have a great year in 2020. We will do new things and maybe even do old things in new ways. Let’s do things that make people want to be a part of us whether we are young, old or somewhere in between. Let’s enjoy what we do and others will enjoy it too.
MAY GOD BLESS US AND OUR FAMILIES AS WE ALL WORK FOR THE SHRINE ENJOYING IT THE
WHOLE YEAR.

Message From the Recorder
I want to start off
thanking Kenneth M. Hamm P. P. for the many years that he served as our Temple’s
Recorder and my boss. Being the Membership Secretary since 2014 under him was a pleasure, and allowed me to meet all our Nobles and Ladies over the years. Ken-ny’s heart is truly into the Shriner’s Hospital system and he has always had our Temple’s Business in mind. I commend him on the way he has assisted me in transitioning from the Membership Secretary to my new position as our Temple’s new-
est Recorder. Thanks Kenny for all that you have done to help me be successful in my new position. Our new Potentate, Illustrious Sir Melvin O. Fletcher has a Clear Vision for 2020. He’s planning on having a Fishing Tournament in March, Easter Egg Hunt in April, Kid’s Prom/Dance in April, a Motor Cycle Show and Dance in May, a Steak Night in June, Christmas in July Kids Celebration, a Car Show in September, a Halloween Party-Haunted House in October, a Fez-Tival in November, and a Christmas Party in December. There are a lot of events for both Nobles, family and kids this year. Addi-tionally, we have in the work, the application to conduct a Car Raffle,

3 El Karubian • February, 2020 Clear Vision
Thank you Nobles for giving me the opportunity to serve
as your 2020 Chief Rabban. My wife and I have greatly enjoyed the first several years of service on the Divan. My journey with the Divan began for me while working for the pleasure of Illustrious Sir Jerry De-Fatta as Colonel of the Units. Jerry involved me with many of the meet-ings, got me on the Executive Board and allowed me to travel with the Divan for the Installation of Officers at our several clubs. That experience was eye opening for me and I hav-en’t looked back since. Each year brings changes to the Divan and it’s always exciting to see the new Potentate come in and work so hard for the Temple and Nobility. It’s almost guaranteed that this year will be different than last year and will also have different challenges to overcome.Illustrious Sir Don Emmons P.P. has been a great friend to me over the years and it’s been such a plea-sure to serve under his leadership.
We’ve racked up a lot of miles over this past year. Those miles and events create memories that I can keep for the rest of my life! If you think I’m having fun, YOU’RE RIGHT!I’ve been following behind Illustri-ous Sir Melvin Fletcher for the last several years and have come to know him as a very devoted and selfless leader. He honestly cares and it shows! He participates in every event we have because he loves it! I know he and his wife Angelia are going to have some challenges this year, as to be expected, and we’ll all be there to give them our support. Please help them to help us.
Some of the upcoming events include;
I-Hop — Think about OUR Hospital and the kids when you decide where to go for breakfast (or dinner). These folks do an outstanding job of supporting the hospital every year.

The funds will go directly to support the Tem-ple’s operating fund, and we hope to raise enough to offset our losses over the past years due to poor circus revenues.Since being elected as your Recorder, I’ve attended both the Sabine and Cenla Shrine Club Installations. Both were enriching, and gave me the opportunity to meet the new officers of each club. While at CENLA, we obligated 5 new Nobles that night, then par-

PAST POTENTATES
J. H. ROLAND POTENTATE 1913 - 1923
El Karubah was chartered on May 14, 1914. In 1922 the members of
El Karubah were instrumental in starting and building the first Shriners Hospital for Crippled Children in Shreveport Louisiana. Since then Shriners Hospital for Children has grown into a network of 22 hospitals in North America, along with clinics abroad. As Shriners, we refer to this as the “World’s Greatest Philan-thropy”. Our hospitals treat a wide range of orthopedic and burn conditions. To date, we have treated over a million patients. Shriner’s health services are provided free of charge to children eighteen years of age or younger, regardless of the patient’s ability to pay.J. H. Roland Potentate 1913 - 1923
