INTRODUCTION:Thousands of people stream to Namaqualand yearly to feast their eyes on flowers and flowers, as far as the eye can see. I offer you the opportunity to join me on a lifetime experience.

The Leef Jou Reis with Gerrie Pretorius-team promise to show you Namaqualand like never before. You will get to know the region, it’s people, their unique dialect, customs and of course, their food. The renowned storyteller and native of this region, Arno van Zyl, will accompany us and entertain us with his wit. We’ll learn about the flowers, nature and will take you to distinctive places. We might even partake in a concert at some stage! NB: Remember to pack warm clothes, for nippy mornings and evenings. And if you’re susceptible to hay fever around flowers, please bring medication.

DAY 1: WEDNESDAY, 2 SEPT 2020• Our flight from OR Tambo to Cape Town will be relatively early. Please be at the airport well in advance and enjoy a cup of coffee before departure. Remember, a domestic flight is included in the price, you can fly from anywhere else and meet us in Cape Town.

COST: • R14 500/PER PERSON SHARING • R18 000/SINGLE TRAVELLERS

Dates: 2 SEPT 2020 – 6 SEPT 2020

• A luxury bus awaits us in Cape Town.Once aboard, we immediately head for the WEST COAST NATIONAL PARK. Apart from stretches of flowers, the park also inhabits game like: Cape Mountain Zebras, Red Hartebeests and Elands. Flamingos are also frequenting the lake. • We’ll visit all the beautiful sites in the park: from Preekstoel to Potsberg. Beautiful photographs are guaranteed, leaving your friends green with envy.• A light lunch (e.g. picnic) will be served in the park, while we get to know each other better.• Breakfast on Day 1 won’t be provided. Please eat something at the airport or aeroplane.• After lunch, we head further up the West Coast to our first accommodation in Saldanha Bay: the beautiful BLUE BAY LODGE & RESORT, situated next to the ocean.• Dinner with a sea view at the Blue Bay Lodge.

DAY 2: THURSDAY, 3 SEPT 2020A latish breakfast while feasting our eyes on Saldanha Bay. We pack the bus and head for Garies – in the heart of Namaqualand – our home for the next three nights. Trust me, Garies is an experience on its own...• En route, we stop frequently to take pictures of flowers and stretch our legs.• Lunch at MUISBOSSKERM (the Turner-family is old friends of the Leef Jou Reis-team). Your biggest challenge will be – not to overeat on fresh fish and seafood being served, accompanied by pot bread and mouth-watering sweat potatoes. Grab a glass of wine and kick off your shoes – you can’t get closer to the sea.• Stuffed and content, we head further up the N7 to Garies and arrive late afternoon. Let the games begin...• Tonight, one of the last living legends of Namaqualand, joins us for dinner at SOPHIA GUEST HOUSE.

Dates: 2 SEPT 2020 – 6 SEPT 2020

PLEASE NOTE: WE LITERALLY BOOK OUT THE ENTIRE GARIES, MEANING NOT EVERYBODY WILL STAY IN ONE PLACE. HOWEVER, EVERYONE WILL BE IN WALKING DISTANCE FROM SOPHIA GUEST HOUSE WHERE MOST OF THE MEALS WILL BE SERVED..

DAY 3: FRIDAY, 4 SEPT 2020• After breakfast, the concept of an “Uber” ride will get new meaning; but that’s as much as you get from me now...• As soon as the sun is warm enough for the flowers to open, we jump on the bus for a jolly-ride in search of the most beautiful sites. The route to be determined by the local information-centre.• En route, we pick up Adriaan Nieuwoudt, notorious Kubus King of 1984, who will be our tour guide for the day. As a native of this area his whole life, he knows the surroundings and flowers like the palm of his hand.

• Lunch: Picnic somewhere in nature. • Tonight, we dance the night away on the music of a local ‘boere’-band and hang out with locals. ‘Braaivleis’, tripe and baked sheep’s head (for the brave ones amongst us!) on the menu. Please inform us in advance if you’ll “tackle” a sheep’s head – Gerrie will show you the ropes...

DAY 4: SATURDAY, 5 SEPT 2020• After breakfast, retail therapy at the Tourism Centre in Garies, stocked with crafts and knick-knacks, true to the region.• Then off to the Kamiesberg Mountains, travelling over two breath-taking mountain passes to Kamieskroon.• We visit the well-known British Lieutenant Darter’s grave, who was killed during the war. Britain, still to this day, has the right of ownership on this tiny piece of land.

• The main attraction of the day is SKILPAD NATIONAL PARK - a Mecca of wild flowers. Prepare yourself for a spectacular site of daisies, vygies, dandelions, gansogies, ‘Piet-snots’, cat’s-tails, blue wild flax (sporrie) to mention a few.• Lunch: Picnic in nature.• A peaceful dinner at Sophia Guest House, before retiring to bed relatively early, as the bus leaves at 06h00 in the morning.

PLEASE NOTE: ROUTES MIGHT CHANGE ACCORDING TO WHERE THE BEST FLOWERS ARE AT THE TIME.

DAY 5: SUNDAY, 6 SEPT 2020BUS DEPARTS AT 06H00.We would love to stay longer but unfortunately it is time to head back to Cape Town for our flight back home. Clanwilliam has promised to host the annual Wildflower Show, but time will tell if this will happen due to all the complications of the Corona Pandemic, it is however still included in our itinerary until further notice and confirmation.Nevertheless we will be travelling via the beautiful Clanwilliam or even Darling and will follow the flowers. We say goodbye, happy and content with the beauty and hospitality of Namaqualand and reminisce with dearness on one of the most incredible experiences.
