2020 SPONSOR PROSPECTUS
Dear Valued Partner,
Effective business leaders understand that in order to remain competitive in today’s challenging business environment, they must focus on their most valuable resource: their people. This explains why successful organizations now recognize HR as a vital strategic partner, and why they have come to rely on HR expertise to navigate key decisions and transitions. As a result, the world of HR has grown increasingly complex. With an expansion of responsibilities and roles, HR professionals are encountering both unprecedented challenges and exciting new opportunities.
The 2020 Washington State Employment Law and Human Resources Conference will provide a critical forum for HR leaders as they navigate this period of change and challenge. For 20 years, as the largest HR gathering in the state, the conference has provided a focal point where HR professionals gather to hear from the top experts in the field and engage in vital discussions with their peers. On March 13, 2020, the conference will once again bring together HR and business leaders from around the state. Approximately 700 attendees, representing companies of all sizes and a wide array of industries, will convene at the Hyatt Regency in Bellevue, Washington, to share strategies and tools, discuss best practices, examine industry trends and research, tackle shared challenges, and build community. An impressive slate of industry experts will inspire and inform the gathering in a series of keynote speeches.
Companies who participate in the Washington State Employment Law & HR Conference view it as a trusted resource for their decision makers across a variety of industries and organizational lines. Attendees arrive eager to discover and implement actionable workplace strategies. And as the largest gathering of its kind in the state, the conference provides an unparalleled opportunity for sponsors to build brand awareness among HR decision makers in the region.
We offer a wide range of sponsorship opportunities, and I encourage you to review the enclosed details and join us for this outstanding event. Please don’t delay: In past years, opportunities have sold out quickly! (Important dates for sponsorship discounts are listed below. Booth selection is based on sponsorship level and date of submission.)
On behalf of the entire Washington State Employment Law & HR Conference Committee and Washington State SHRM, I want to extend a warm invitation to be our partner for the conference that brings together the world of HR in Washington State. This year is shaping up to be our most successful conference yet. I hope you’ll join us.

9:45AM – 10:45AM RECRUITING TRACK How to Hire in the Toughest Labor Market EVER
Presenter: Matthew Singer
For the first time in 50 years, there are more jobs than there are people to fill them and unemployment is at near-record lows. This is causing a rapid shift in the importance of recruiting top talent, particularly skilled labor and STEM workers. Companies are look-ing for new and creative ways to attract talent, build recruiting pipelines, and develop their employer brands.
9:45AM – 10:45AM SENIOR HR TRACK Employee Engagement is a Competency
Presenter: Matthew Wride
Employee engagement is an outcome of many contributing factors. While some fac-tors are influenced only at the organizational level, many elements are under the direct control of individual managers. A skilled manager, therefore, can greatly improve the employee engagement of her/his team.
As managers understand the five driving elements of ENGAGEMENT MAGIC (Mean-ing, Autonomy, Growth, Impact, and Connection) they can better identify and improve on those leadership competencies that are driving their personal employee engage-ment and that of their team.
9:45AM – 10:45AM SENIOR HR TRACK The Agile Workforce: How Flexible Are You?
Presenter: Joseph Marth
An Agile Workforce is a flexible “talent stream” (gone is “talent pool”) that benefits employers and workers with choices about when, where, and how work gets done. SHRM and other thought leaders have reported the rapid growth of the Agile Work-force - for example, SHRM recently reported that Telecommuting jumped from 34% in 2005 to 66% in 2016.
Participants in this session will learn about this remarkable shift in the workforce – including the nine key dimensions of agile working, as well as its benefits and costs.
9:45AM – 10:45AM TECHNOLOGY TRACK HR Executives Role in Prevention and Handling of Cyber Breaches
Presenters: Bryan E. Hurd and Jerod Alexander
In the era of continuing cyber breaches and issues, this session will empower HR profes-sionals of all levels to engage in and even lead discussions on how to better protect their organizations from many of today’s most common (and damaging) attacks. Two of Seat-tle’s leading experts in breach investigations will be talking about cases, lessons learned and how HR can make things better. This session will provide examples of common breach and cyber threats, provide an HR perspective on ways to prevent or deal with ongoing issues, and provide common sense, plain English, and immediately actionable items for HR personnel to take from the session and act on today.
