2 January 2020 Grand Knight’s Message
Dear Brother Knights,
I pray that you and your family are having a safe and joyful Christmas season and New Year’s cele-bration! As part of our Christmas celebration of the birth of Jesus Christ, Council 10287 hosted our Annual Christmas Dinner on December 7. Thanks to co-chairmen Larry Schmidt and Naz LeBlanc for planning and organizing our event, and to all the knights and their families that attended and helped make the evening a very happy affair. Father Don presented the Knights of Columbus STAR Award to past Grand Knight Ken Eazell in recognition of Council 10287 service to our community.
Thank you for all the donations of Baby clothes/Diapers collected for St Vincent de Paul Society. I’d also like to wish each of you and your families a Happy and Healthy New Year. I am eagerly looking forward to the second half of our Columbian year. There are many Knights’ activities and events coming soon with opportunities for service, comradery and spiritual fulfilment. It starts quick – on Monday 1/6 Knights are sharing a meal with the RCIA catechumens and candidates and their sponsors in Meeting Room 1 & 2 of the church hall. I am bringing lasagna, bread and cookies for 20 from home; and, telephoning 2 or 3 knights to join me in describing our ministry to the RCIA audience. On Sunday, 1/12 there is the Baptism of the Lord celebration which is organized by our parish Baptism ministry. At this event, recently baptized children and adults are welcomed back for a reunion with games and activities for the children and our council will be providing lunch. The following weekend is our St Joseph Parish Men’s Retreat at Mater Dolorosa Retreat Center. I always look forward to the spiritual “recharging” that occurs at this retreat. Not only is there an inspiring program and lots of time for private contemplation in a beautiful setting, the accommodations and especially the food are amazing. On Friday 1/24 our annual Clergy Appreciation dinner will be held at San Francisco Solano Parish Hall in Rancho Santa Margarita. This dinner demonstrates our appreciation for our Priests, Deacons and religious Brothers and Sis-ters. In December our Financial Secretary, Felix Piro, mailed annual dues/Survey of Fraternal Activity notices to our members. I encourage everyone to consider all of the volunteer activities which we as Knights perform for our community when filling out and returning the survey with your annual dues. An update on our effort to conform to the Diocese Safe Environment policy. Before Christmas (12/23) we met with our parish safe environment monitor to review the status of our active members. Council 10287 Knights who DO NOT work with minors or vulnerable adults are not asked to complete Diocese Training or Fingerprinting. Howev-er, for all Council 10287 knights I highly recommend the Knights of Columbus safe environment website training for all members located at http://www.kofc.org/en/members/programs/youth-activities/safe-environment-program.html to provide an awareness on this difficult topic. Approximately 40 of our Council 10287 Knights DO work with minors or vulnerable adults in the course of our participation in charitable events (Day of Sharing, Baptism of the Lord, Free Throw and Essay contests, etc.) or in fund raising (pancake breakfast, Lenten fish Dinners, etc.) to support the community charities to which we donate. Nearly a quarter of those 40 have completed all Diocesan requirements. Roughly another quarter need only update their Diocesan training, it “times out” periodically and needs renewal. Before our Officers Meeting (1/14/2020), I plan to contact via separate E-mail/phone call those approximately 20 Knights who are active in our charitable/fund raising efforts. My hope is that working with the parish Safe Environ-ment coordinator we can start the process of filling our Diocesan paperwork as part of our January Meetings (1/14 and 1/28). In summary, PEACE and JOY in the New Year!!! Serving Christ Together, Hugh Lynch

SPEAKER FOR THE GENERAL MEMBERSHIP MEETING JANUARY 28TH
The January 28th General Membership meeting will have Phil Calhoun, an active St. Joseph parishioner,
speak to us about PROJECT L.I.F.E. a friendly Visitor Program of the Good Works Institute, a 501C3, not-
for-profit corporation.
There is no charge for the visits. Older adults open their homes or meet in neutral sites and share their LIFE
experiences with the college students who fulfill a gerontology class assignment.
Through wisdom sharing and a kind listening ear, the older adults give their gifts of time and talent as men-
tors for young college students searching for clarity as they face decisions on majors and career paths.
Invite family and friends to enjoy Phil’s talk which will start when the business segment of the meeting is
completed.

9 The Patron Field Agent’s Message
I want to wish all my Brothers and Lady Knights,
A very Happy New Year!
Happy New Year! As we begin the new year it’s common to review the past year and look at what we’d like to ac-
complish in the new one. Already there’s been much advertising and talk about 2020 and the relation to our eye-
sight…how we’ll be able to see more clearly, look at the year with new vision, not be shortsighted.
Of course all this talk about the future brings us to the usual thinking about the new year…making resolutions.
That is a good thing! All of us want to resolve to do those things that will lead to happier, healthier lives.
Some of the most common resolutions are to lose weight, get in shape and exercise more. Others resolve to stop
smoking.
If you think about the spiritual, many new year’s resolutions concern having a more centered prayer life or receiving
the sacraments more often.
Many of my friends think more about quality time…quality time spent with their family and friends; those that are
most important in their lives.
As you think about family, one resolution I can help you keep is to update your Family Service Record and take
stock of your financial goals. Are you where you want to be? Do you have a plan? With our professional approach
using the Profiles+ Forecaster financial needs analysis you can see if there are any gaps in your coverage and how
close you are to achieving your goals and aspirations.
Some members are not aware of all the products we have to offer:
Life insurance, long term care insurance, disability income insur-
ance and retirement annuities. These products can help protect
your family in all the financial situations where you might find
yourself. Life insurance protects your loved ones financially if you
are not here to help provide. The need for life insurance changes at
different stages of a person’s life: Young and unmarried members and the man retiring next month each have life
insurance needs, but the type and amount may vary widely. I can give you some advice on that. Disability income
insurance provides a paycheck if you are sick or hurt and can’t work. If your company offers some, do you know
how much, for how long and is it taxable? I can help sort that out. Long term care insurance protects those assets
you’ve worked so hard all your life to accumulate. Don’t deplete all the family’s savings for a care event when the
Knights can take on that risk. With all the concern about market volatility and the health of Social Security, our
fixed rate annuities guarantee a minimum interest rate for life, the safety of conservative investment strategy and an
income stream you cannot outlive.
What’s most important to you and your family? There is no cookie cutter answer. That’s why I meet with members
and their spouses and first determine what issues are of most concern to you. From there I can help analyze where
you are in relation to your goals and construct a plan to get you where you want to go. All done in the comfort of
your home and at your convenience.
As a brother Knight and your field agent I have so much more responsibility than a simple financial advisor or stock
broker. We’ll take a look at your dreams, goals and aspirations for 2020 and beyond. Resolve today to meet with me
and ensure that at the end of this new year, your financial picture will be seen with 2020 vision.
Vivat Jesus!
